In his program notes, Torres mentions that the impetus for writing this piece stems from a reading of Horace's Epodes no. 11. Horace was a roman poet whose collection of poems titled Epodes were often set to music, in particular, Torres was interested in the emotional response triggered by the poetic and musical form.
The work is divided into 2 sections with the first developing from a group of four multiphonics, this beginning which is clear and delicate, gradually gives way to extremely virtuosic and violent material.
