I love how you begin with clothing and exposure risks. As a firefighter, we see hundreds of cases of heat exhaustion, cramps, and stroke each year- often in weather in the 70's. One of my favorite quotes:
Alfred Wainwright - 'There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.'
That’s my training as a First Responder coming out lol.. You get it 👊🏻.. I totally believe in it because of experience. Thanks for posting this 🔥
I like the idea of packing the small bag and transferring it to the larger bag. Very good stuff!!
Cool 😎 Thanks for watching!
WARM CLIMATE: Yah I have to deal with winter up here i Canada.
So there is extra stuff,
Good job.
I’ve played on the Boundry Waters in the winter and know what that’s about.. We had sleds, snowshoes, skis, shovels etc.. Hard life up there for sure when life is below zero all the time
Nitecore has the slimmest designs for powerbanks.
I’ll check em out- thanks!
Now put the loaded small pack into the 40L pack and you have an extra pack if you need to expand with gear from say a hidden cache. Wear small load pack in front and 40L pack on back if losing additional gear.
A really good application for this is small and lightweight duffle bags. Two of them. 8 or 10 pound each loaded Max. Carry one in each hand, drop as/if needed. Pick back up. Non critical gear only. I have two jansports in my car just for this. Tiny essential pack, extra in my fists. You can even toss them over fences etc
Ironically the Tarahumara was actually designed to be used with the Aston House.. You can simply replace the compression panel with it for that exact purpose.. 👍🏻
@@FueltheFires well now I am even more interested in that bag system. Very cool. Thanks for the vid, philosophy behind it and ideas for its use.
I'm scrapin' off what you're steppin' in.
😂
One idea for when you can't avoid going by airplane and thus having no blade on you:
Right after arrival and picking up your luggage, go to the nearest shop that sells SAK's, bite the bullet and spend 25-35 bucks for the "Camper" or "Huntsman" SAK.
You would have a small, capable and not to forget brand spanking new SAK with sharp blades, a saw and of course the usual other assortment of tools. Wouldn't brake the bank either. If you wanted to keep it, just mail it back home before boarding the flight back.
Or, if you can afford to lose the money, gift it to someone who might appreciate it.
"Voidaphobia" The fear of unfilled spaces in a pack. It legitimately to me 50 years to kick that one.
😂 I am definitely gonna use that one ☝🏻
I also carry a small med bottle of dawn dish washing liguid.
Nope never had a leak
1000's of uses and goes a loooong way
Cool 😎 Good stuff right there 👍🏻
@@FueltheFires
You see folks carry all kinds of first aid but nothing to wash a cut out with lol.
I have one very similar and expanded as my needs did or my situation. Very cool. Im a hunter, and this was great for that. Was able to make a base camp and light weight pack for the hunt.
Awesome! Hunting certainly affects what I pack 👊🏻
Leaner and meaner, you’re killing it buddy.
Thank you 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Out here in the desert you're going to need to carry waaaay more water than that. Being able to filter or boil it isn't much use if you can't find any in the wild, and often you can't. You'll have to pack what you need, and it's going to be heavy.
You also are going to have a hard time finding anything to hang a hammock from. Maybe you could find a mesquite tree or an ironwood or palo verde, but probably not 2 of them close enough together to help you. And trying to suspend it from cacti is a bad idea!
Agreed 100%.. My default is the ground and the hammock is specific to the southeast… And yes, if I was in a desert environment I would have to tailor it to those needs- such as more water
Thanks for being a stud and that was a good load out.
😂 Thanks for watching and I appreciate the positive feedback 👊🏻
That kit fills so many gaps that even the heavier “cool kids” kits overlook ✌🏼
Well start our own lunch table 😂
I want to see you and Jason do an Escape From Atlanta video using your packs.
On foot? At least let them have the e bikes. They should be able to get from mid town to JJ's area before they run out of charge. Downtown or the airport, IDK. Probably better to go west for a day then north two more. ATL's long out east and north.
@@robertbates6057Been thinking about doing just that!
@@FueltheFires Even in normal times, it would be dicey getting outside the dense area.
Thank you for the breakdown of your bag♥️ I gain great info from you ♥️
👊🏻🔥❤️🔥👊🏻
What make is the 40ltr pack please
It’s an Aston House Backcountry (V2).. I would buy the 3rd version in a heartbeat 👍🏻
Great video, 4 Patriots makes a solar power bank, also a solar charge/charging flashlight. Another company is stealth angel. I own the items mentioned by 4 Patriots and am happy with them.
Cool- thanks for the recommendation 👊🏻
You're welcome
G'day JJ.! Only a stud would know about fungal care..ha.! Cheers for the updates, similar to the groupies set up minus the heat. They carry bear spray & hunting boomerangs instead. But the weight is 15lbs not including what's on them. The girls are spending winter with us, doing some survival challenges. Less snakes in winter. They'll be duplicating scenarios from On3. Now you've got your pack on, when is the next survival challenge vid.? We'll try to Fuel the Fire in the meantime. Cheers cobber from Australia.
Now that sounds like fun! I’ve done quite a few Adventure vids lately but more will come for sure.. Wish it was winter here- The older I get the more I think I should hibernate in the summer lol.. Thanks for watching and sharing what the family is up to- tell ‘em I said to keep doing “the things!”
In a bind you can always eat the ham radio!
Thank you so much for the last bit about HOW to pack it. My bag has bare essentials and could barely get the big balled up bag on my back😂 all good now tho
Modularity is my game mate!... a 30 lt main pack and mole all around it... extra packs strategically placed cover all needs up to 20 kilos [40 pounds] max weight self-def included [no dinos here...] but I cover even fish/hunt and trap needs...
I wouldn’t mind running your kit.. I KNOW it would be top shelf brother 👊🏻
@@FueltheFires naah... cheap Chinese replicas... but they get the job done!... fabric, metal, and plastic are not ''rocket science''... they replace wood, bone, and leather after all... lol
@@user-McGiverAs you know, it’s just a question of is it adequate? Yup- run it!
Glad you mentioned the Collapsible bag. I just started looking at them a few years ago. I have a Rick Steves carry on travel pack. It has Collapsible features similar to the black pack you are displaying. The basic idea and build on his pack is based on leisure and tourist travel. The downside is it's not heavy duty enough for a bugout situation.
I'm an old guy so traveling light is the only way I can travel on foot or airplane. If it can't fit in the smaller pack it doesn't go. I have traveled overseas several times with this type pack and it's great. The same philosophy can be applied to a bugout. Thanks for showing us your bugout out kit, very cool toys.
Do you have links for the equipment you discussed?
Thanks! I don’t have links- perhaps I should though! I’m in love with the collapsible designs that are heavy duty enough for “duty”. They work for me in just about every scenario. Thanks for watching!
That is an awesome point of view JJ I definitely need to re invent myself
Never a bad time to make your life better 👍🏻
Very informative!!
Thanks love ❤
Thank you very much
You’re welcome- thanks for watching!
Thanks J J for a look at your very well thought out bag. But I have no idea where to get half the items that you just showed. Also, I’m on a fixed income and I cannot afford the $200 titanium water filter. Can you put it gather an adequate kit or under $400? Thanks again for the awesome video. God bless you and yours.!
You’re welcome! I have put together kits before that were $500 before that were adequate- that being said, you lose to weight and bulk unfortunately. It can be done but it’s very difficult. As far as the Grayl goes, you can order the plastic version and get the same result- all you have to add is a stainless nesting cup 👍🏻
I'm definitely guilty of over filling my larger pack. Trying to be better about that.
It’s a struggle for sure
Great video brother. Great info. I've definitely got to get some weight out of my kit.
Thanks brother- always a challenge to keep losing weight and still have stuff durable enough to do “the things.” Good luck changing it up!
@@FueltheFires 👍🏻
Great vid. You had me at HPG bags...lol but it is great to see how to use these bags (or others, I guess).
Love my Hill People gear!
Great video JJ well done brother 👊🔥👊
Thanks 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Awesome video sir
Thank you!
Well set up kit
Thanks!
Helping me to decide whether I really need a new pack or not here tonight, JJ 😁
I was thinking of ditching my Karrimor SF 30lt, but I’m gonna keep it running I think.
Thank you for another great video.
Haha.. I wasn’t trying to sell a bag really- just the principles behind the mentality.. Good on you keeping the pack 👊🏻
@@FueltheFires Hahaha, yeah I know 😁
I was looking anyway. I have a thing for packs. Hashtag packwh0r3 😊
@@BourneOutside You are not alone!
Nice setup makes me think.. as for those NPE that unfortunately we have to deal in ,suggestion would be a grivory/figerglass/bone/ titanium blade. Ive carried one for years in those areas but only for sd.. great info tho JJ 👊🏻♨️👊🏻
Thanks- yeah I’ve been looking for a good solution for that for a while now.. I hope I find the one that works for me soon. Thanks for the suggestions and thanks for watching 👊🏻
I don't fly, so that's one concern removed from the list.
Roger that 👍🏻
Me neither.
Good video.
Thanks
I’d like to get a gear list.
Excellent kit & tutorial. You’ve been exposing me to new gear; Tuff Possum. Do you have a compass & local map? I’m super urban do I do not have this in my GHB but incorporated for my bail out trunk (ROAM case with wheels).
Thank you and I certainly have a map and compass just about everywhere I go.. With my past, it’s almost impossible to not have one lol.. Always good to find new kit that fits and thanks for watching 👊🏻
@@FueltheFiresExcellent. Looking forward to more great videos and lessons!
Hey I get the socks and undies but if u run hot and live in let’s say Georgia are u still carrying the thermal and beanie in the summer?
I can say I’ve actually had to use them multiple times when I didn’t think I would need to.. Last week I was teaching a survival class and the temps got down to 40 degrees twice- in May!
Dp you carry your sleeping bag and thermals in the summer?
You're awesome👌
Thank you! So are YOU!!!
I love my Tarahumara so i have a question. Are grimlocks the only thing i need to secure other bags on the outside.?
The Tuff Possum bags were actually designed for the Tarahumara and yes you can use grimlocks or carabiners
I wanna know what the brand is of that 16 liter. I need a fishing pack. Im 6ft4 and every bag ive found makes me look like a gorilla with a altoids tin strapped to my back.
😂 I hear ya.. I’m 6’2” and have the same problem- that’s why I got the Hill People Tarahumara (the one in the video).. You might also consider the Umlindi pack from Hill People as well 👍🏻
who makes those pouches you strapped to the outside? been looking for something just like that
Tuff Possum 💪🏻
Well kids, now you know how santa carries all his crap every christmas.
😂
Is there a list with all the links to the items in this video?
FYI: Shemagh (the G is silent) 😊
I’ve had people correct me both ways so I split it when I talk about them 😂
@@FueltheFires I am married to an Iraqi Christian (Chaldean) born in Iraq. Fiery woman who LOVES to correct me! She nailed me on this one of course. 😂😂😂😂
They grow, they grow lol!
😂
Sir, in your honest opinion, which do you prefer the most, that vargo titanium stove or thr solo stove that I have seen you use in other videos? Because of you and Jason Salyer, I believe that I am going to go for the Tarahumara pack. Thank you Sir...
I HIGHLY prefer my solo stove but it doesn’t fit well in the Tarahumara pack.. The Vargo was a compromise for weight and space considerations
My bag is 26 puons in 13LD bag i am olen 5 foot 2 and 145 puons it is purfit for my suies from iron wolf😊
Right on! Thanks for watching 👊🏻
Hill people make some quality gear.
Finally, a good pack that doesn't have a ton of molle for the walking dead wannabes
Im not seeing a link
We apologize- the link is in the description now 👍🏻
👉 JJ {{{. IS your Titanium Grayl a GeoPress or UltraPress }}} 👈??????????
This one is an UltraPress but I have both for different scenarios 👍🏻
@@FueltheFires Thank you, I really like it when you “plug a particular brand (you have tried & used) 👉 because I trust your experienced skill + knowledge ♥️ I appreciate your response to my question - 👌Brynnlea / North Alabama

@@FueltheFires Hi 👉 JJ - would you give me a brief description in regards to “what specific scenario” you would use 1) the Ultra Press Grayl & then “another” scenario you would use the “Geo Press Grayl) ⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️

There's no link, unless you meant Linktree.
I will have to refer to Chris on that one

Dude, you're in a temperate zone. Try that kit in a N. Idaho winter... then I'll be impressed.
I have I just traded out clothes and my sleeping bag and a sleeping mat
A fish can actually grow too big for a bowl. A fish doesn’t grow based on its environment. It grows based on the amount of food.
You could carry a lot more if you dropped weight. Lift weights and do keto or carnivore. Quit hiding behind your injuries. I didn't, and I dropped 50lbs of fat and added 15 pounds of muscle.
So far I’ve dropped 20 and still working at it
