Love the episodes and work you are doing, really helpful! Small request, but would appreciate a better mic, sometimes heard to hear and would enjoy it even better.

Totally agree, although I go through each video sound balancing so surprised you can’t hear me :( …. I did buy a mic but it just sounded strange. Will try again

When you turn the key to position 1 your adding load to the wiring as stuff is powered up, the higher current could be causing the voltage drop that passes through a bad joint that doesn’t show up with the small amount of current the meter uses.

Hi Gaz, yes it could - I also think it’s just a reflection of the resistances (battery to ignition vs ignition back to battery ground). But either way, nothing to worry about, Pieter already confirmed he has similar voltages

WIth my '82 4.5lt, ignition on
    A1 - 11.6v
    A4 - 10.9v
Battery is at 11.9v but dropping with ignition on
Ignition off battery at - 13.2v
As Gazfish said, everything bar starting car is on, this will lower voltage as there will be quite an amp draw to run Coil, ignition dash etc

Ah Pieter, thats amazing. Ok yes, A4 is very similar to mine. And yes, in the process of tracking this down I did start to realise (aka learn) what is happening. Ok so, all is good :) thanks again.

you mentioned a ballast resistor on the circuit , thats supposed to knock the voltage down for the coil right?

Hey, yes effectively that is what’s happening. Thanks!
