I think this illustrates the dilemma that Loopers have when coming thru the Great Lakes, and we have talked to many of them over the years. You want to maximize your time in Georgian Bay and the North Channel and rightly so, but that always puts you at Mackinac just before Labor Day. Lake Michigan starts to turn to Fall weather real quick after Labor Day. We've been stuck in Leland for multiple days when going there after Labor Day. So Loopers end up blitzing thru Lake Michigan, unfortunately out of necessity, to get to Chicago. They end up missing the many cool towns and ports in Little Traverse Bay, Grand Traverse Bay and down the west coast of Michigan. One could spend a whole summer cruising Lake Michigan, that's why we keep our boat there.
Enjoyed the segment on Ludington. So happy to see that the SS Badger is still running. Sixty five years ago my wife and I spent our wedding night on the Badger. It was a somewhat stormy night but the marriage has survived! So enjoy watching you travels!
very good stuff..im from Beaufort N.C. yall have inspired my wife an I to try and do the loop ..we will have to wait until retirement, I guess..lol... have to work full time jobs..but we have started planning atleast ..wish we could find a online income to fulfill this dream. .... But we are 10 years from retirement and from doing the loop ... keep up the love yall show each other.. it rubs off on us all....
Pure Michigan. =) Home. Nice to see someone else experiencing and enjoying it from a perspective I've never been able to. I've seen most of the state from land at one time or another, but the one time I've been on Lake Michigan we'd barely left the shore before I was nearly unconcious on the floor of the cabin seasick. The only time I can remember ever being motion sick on the water. =/
So happy you enjoyed Michigan. Have lived here all my life and think there’s no place better in the US! We boat out of Muskegon and Lake Michigan is our favorite of the Great Lakes. Loving your videos!
Our freshwater backyard is certainly one of a kind! Thank you so much for visiting what we consider a slice of heaven. BTW that lake can get wicked ugly at times. Never underestimate her. Kind of like....when she is good she is really really good but when she is bad she is horrid. There is a reason it is considered graveyard of the wrecks. (You should have checked out the Fransisco Morazon on the south end of South Manitou. She is still partially above water. Interesting shipwreck with an interesting story)
I have been enjoying your Videos of the loop. What a great adventure. We live on Grand Traverse Bay, and yes we think Michigan is a beautiful state and we love our lake house living. Thanks for sharing your amazing trip around the US.
We were really taken by how you have let your AGLCA burgee reflect your journey. You are also correct in that Michigan is a journey onto itself. It is a beautiful (our former home) state. My take on your comments over the last few videos is an RV in your future to explore more. Just saying...we did the same , boat, loop, motorhome, boat again. We SO enjoy your videos!!
That sunrise🔥! The sunset was also so pretty! Lake Michigan and the surrounding towns and dunes are gorgeous! Can’t forget to mention that yummy ice cream Jenn had 😋! Thank you for showing us the beauty of Lake Michigan!
Its heaven or hell out there. Last year we crossed to Saugatuck on a glassy sunny Friday and it was pure heaven. On Sunday on the return trip the wave forecast ramped up and it was 2 and a half hours of pure hell. I would have paid an ungodly amount of money about 20 minutes in, to magically get my boat and crew teleported back to Milwaukee
@@Niki10-32 In North Carolina, we have the Pamlico Sound and also our inlets are quite treacherous at times. The Pamlico can be super snotty and SchoandJo have a video about this. We had a bad time about 10 years ago and my wife reminds me any time the weather is even slightly snotty. Bad memory for her and something like 30 videos ago Scho and Jo did a vid on it. Lake Michigan reminds me of cruising offshore in the Atlantic from it's look. I hope we'll get to do it in 1-2 years. Thanks!
@@bbmatthews2002 I used to look a the wave forecast and try to reason with myself that "maybe" we could make it.. but I think everyone has a trip that "teaches them a lesson" and I've definitely had mine. Now if I'm not SURE it's nice water. I don't go. Lake Michigan has different seas than the ocean. Way way more random with short and unpredictable period between waves. Bigger seas on the ocean are more manageable than much smaller seas on Michigan is what I'm told from captains who've been on both. And its funny cause EVERY marina I would meet new ppl my first couple years with a large boat I go to and talk to a few captains and ask "what will you go out in". They'll all brag about "Oh anything less than 7 feet I go"... Well.. I can now say... when its anything over 3 or 4 out there there ain't a soul. And I mean no one. I guess captains are a lot like Fisherman when it comes to estimating/bragging about size. ;)
Hooray! I finally am caught up with all your videos after I started watching them when I had back surgery back in March. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the trip.
Hi, it's me again. I trucked across from Duluth back to Canada for 25 years. It is awesome scenery. It is like that both shores either the northern shore or the south. So here's a thought for you. Trailer your boat to Duluth. If you have a beam of 8' you need nothing. If you have over 102inch beam you need permits. But if you started a trip there in mid April and go to Sault St Marie and cross to the North channel and then back down the western shore of Lake Michigan to Milwaukee. Then take a bus or plane or train back to get your truck and trailer and go get your boat or take the inland route south from Chicago. The only thing there is Lake Superior can get big waves so keep good tabs on the weather. But I can guarantee you will never regret taking that trip. Is roughly a a 1000 mile trip and would have 5 months to stop and enjoy the places you like. I have figured out what you guys like and don't like, and there's not much there you wouldn't like.
4:30am oh my! We pulled out of Cape May at 5 am to make it to Masaquan as a weather window was closing. It was the right choice but to be 20 years younger would help us! 😂 Hope the next weeks allow for a slower pace.
You guys are about to or already in my City of Chicago! Glad you're enjoying Lake Michigan, don't forget to stop by the PlayPen in Chicago on the weekend when you get in!
For folks really trying to watch their expenses, there are anchorage opportunities in most of the port towns along the East side of the lake on the Mich coastline. You could prob go from the Mackinaw bridge down the Mich coast all the way around to Chicago without paying marina fees. You might have cough up and pay at the extreme southern end of the lake, around St. Joe or Mich City Indiana though.
Michigan is absolutely beautiful, you guys are so close to my home port and town of Muskegon Michigan, hope you guys swing through to check out Muskegon Lake! Enjoy
How's the salmon fishing? Spent summers on our family cruiser in Ludington when I was in high school 60 years ago, so beautiful with great fishing. Does the ferry still run?
It sounds like you learned why we call Michigan home and choose to do our boating on the Great Lakes. It is unfortunate you had to scurry down the coast.
I have watched many videos of yours but have sooo many more to go. Really enjoying all of them! I have not any where you are fishing. Any reason or just not your thing? I guess licensing would be difficult.
Agreed on the recommendation to check out some boats, a good idea is the Looper Crawl at the AGLCA Rendezvous. I’m 6’2” and I was able to get around well. Enough headroom in the salon, not quite in the berths but not too bad.
Not to rub it in but... in June crossed from Milwaukee to Muskegon. 78.5 miles. One hour and 50 minutes. :) (could have done it much faster but that is my 'efficient' cuising speed) (43 mph) Of course going straight across is incredibly boring after you've done it a couple times. The view doesn't change for 80% of the trip.
I blink for 2 secs and then am all like 🛳️ What kinda Wild 'n Cra Cra Boat'row'bics is this..... 🧎🧍♀️🚶♀️🏃♀️🧗♂️🏌♀️🏄🧗🏊🚣♀️🏋️♀️⛹️♀️🤸♂️🚴♂️🚵♀️🤸♀️🤼🤾🤽♂️🧘🤹♀️

That's so awesome, the Badger is a beautiful ship and she most definitely still sails Lake Michigan.
What a story, glad your marriage survived 😁
I’m so glad you are enjoying my home state of Michigan! 😃👏
I remember climbing those as a kid in the 90s, what a cool experience. Enjoy and stay safe!

A beautiful cruise.. Beautiful Michigan.....
Fresh cheese curds squeak when you chew them, love them.
Great video. Beautiful sunrise, dunes, ice cream. Music👍
That sunrise and sunset were both 🔥! Jenn, your ice cream flavor sounded SO GOOD! Ummm! Can't wait to indulge in some ice cream together soon!
🔥🔥🔥🔥
I enjoy your videos... informative, personal experience of food, & much better than a photo or written review. YES I own a cruiser ⛴️
we discovered the whitefish dip somewhere around Mackinac Is. Everywhere after that I searched for it- Yum

Just found you. I have a daughter that has 10 acres near Mackinac. I love going up there.
So happy you enjoyed Michigan. Have lived here all my life and think there’s no place better in the US! We boat out of Muskegon and Lake Michigan is our favorite of the Great Lakes. Loving your videos!
Hoping they can make it to Muskegon. I love their show!
I appreciate your observations of my beloved state of Michigan so much. I've just begun to discover it myself & I've lived here my entire life❤

Ah, will have to add that shipwreck to our list for if we ever come back! Thanks for the recommendation 😁
We live here so know the Lake but you hit some calm conditions... Weather is good through September.
Yep missed the east side of the lower and the upper, watch tulas endless summer, they only did some of it and were blown away!!
been following you for almost 2 years now, love your positive views, I am on the loop in 2 years thanks, love ollie
Nice, 2 years will fly by!

That sunrise🔥! The sunset was also so pretty! Lake Michigan and the surrounding towns and dunes are gorgeous! Can’t forget to mention that yummy ice cream Jenn had 😋! Thank you for showing us the beauty of Lake Michigan!
Thanks Suzanne ❤️
This is so awesome. Lake Michigan seems so huge and scary. So anticipated your vids on this! Hope y’all are well!
She can be scary and she is huge but she's also a true natural beauty...

At Ludington is a pumped storage facility, that might cause the waves.

“The white fish was very white fish”. 😂
Would be neat to start the loop on the Georgian Bay and do the west side of the loop for the whole season. So much to see and do!
That would be a fantastic plan!

Glad you are enjoying Michigan. Our home port is Grand Haven.
Nice! I wished we were able stop in Grand Haven this Loop, we heard there is a pretty cool light show!
😍 Nice video 💛 Greetings from Croatia ✌

Looks like several lighthouses on lake Michigan
A lot of them, it’s very pretty!
I think I have read that there are more lighthouses in Michigan than in any other state.
My Home!
Michigan is absolutely beautiful, you guys are so close to my home port and town of Muskegon Michigan, hope you guys swing through to check out Muskegon Lake!

I so enjoy your videos. I know these videos are almost a year ago, but curious what you are doing next???? Give us hint other than maybe biking.
Biking first then we will see!! We want to share, but also want to iron out some of the details 😉
How's the salmon fishing? Spent summers on our family cruiser in Ludington when I was in high school 60 years ago, so beautiful with great fishing. Does the ferry still run?
Salmon/trout fishing is still good although not the numbers of 20+ years ago. The SS Badger runs a daily schedule Ludington to Manitwoc.
Love the scenery and music in this video!!! Are you using Epidemic sound?
Thanks, y'all! We use both Epidemic Sound and Music Bed for our music. We're glad you enjoyed the music and scenery 😊
those are the normal swells when the wind is slow
It sounds like you learned why we call Michigan home and choose to do our boating on the Great Lakes. It is unfortunate you had to scurry down the coast.

From Australia too 🤠
I have watched many videos of yours but have sooo many more to go. Really enjoying all of them! I have not any where you are fishing. Any reason or just not your thing? I guess licensing would be difficult.
Not difficult, not cheap though. Non resident annual license is $76. Compared to a resident license of $26.
We are watching your video tonight. Please we are pretending that you are still looping 😮
I am considering a MT 34 purchase. How's the headroom? I am 6 foot 3. Thanks. Alan
I owned a MT 36 Sundeck. 6'3" you may brush the ceiling. It was fine for me at 6 foot. Visit a few boats.

Yes, we're lifetime members 😊
Why are you whispering 😎
don't tell anyone about Michigan's west coast.......... we like it that way.
Instead of taking it on the beam, learn to maneuver on the quarter for a more enjoyable experience .
👍
