  • To say François-Paul Journe is the most prominent watchmaker of the last three decades might not be an overstatement. Inspired at an early age by the work of the great innovators that came before him, Abraham-Louis Breguet and George Daniels, the sheer breadth of his horological inventions over his long career has proven his mastery of the craft and left an indelible mark on watchmaking history.
François-Paul rarely gives interviews now and we are privileged to have him reflect on his life’s work with Wei. In Part 1 of this retrospective, François-Paul shares his early fascination with the tourbillon and constant force mechanisms, eventually crafting his own watches that incorporated these two components which enhance chronometric performance. These early creations would garner the respect from the watchmaker many regard as the 20th century’s greatest, George Daniels, who called François-Paul “the best”.

Probably one of the best interviews I’ve seen. Thanks Wei and the Revolution team. I was especially impressed with the respect and cordiality of both gentlemen at the beginning of the interview.

Terrific interview! You can sense that François-Paul was very comfortable to have this friendly discussion while sitting in his favorite brasserie. The conversation was very relaxed and intimate, and we were able to learn new details about the early days. Bravo!

Can only imagine how it felt to receive such high praise from George Daniels - FP Journe is surely the secret horological child of Breguet and Daniels . I Only wish I could wear one of his pieces - it must be like wearing a modern moving da Vinci

Thank you Wei, there was Breguet then Daniels and now Journe.
What a nice interview, Mister Journe seems a nice calm man though his reputation says the opposite.
Great job, keep them coming please.

White text on a white table cloth. Who ever said FP wasn’t difficult? But then I used my glasses and a loupe to see it. 😊 Kind of funny in a way. Once you really look, you see the beauty of the words and appreciate what FP did to unknowingly make Dr. Daniels mad.

Please republish this video with larger font subtitles that are in a color that contrast with the background so we can read the subtitles. Right now, it’s white font, small size font, on a background of a white tablecloth. Unless you speak French and don’t need the subtitles, I don’t know how the viewer is supposed to understand what I can only imagine is a great interview!
