How I Built a Cargo Bike for under $100. Cargo Fork Build

- HEY! I'm Johnny. ✌👽✌
I built a bike fork that helps me increases what I can carry on my old school mountain bike! The metal I bought from metal supermarkets and it cost $30. The forks were just junk forks from the local bike shop. The 20" front tire I bought on amazon but you could probably grab one from a junky kids bike for free.
I make videos when I can. Please please help me out and subscribe :)

Not only is the end result efficient and good looking, the process is also well-shot and the music is fun to listen to. You made a great video and a great bike mod. Thanks for posting!
Elijah Fernands dude!! Thanks for all the kind words, super glad you enjoyed!
👍
yes I agree !
4:34 most satisfying part imo
Absolutely love this video. Starting my own project right now to put it under the christmas tree...
Man, that’s awesome, I loved the entire thing! Years ago, my dad did a custom splatter paint job on my sister’s bike and I’ve always loved that look. Great design and incredible quality video! Just subscribed!
Hey John Wikk ... great idea. I might use my everlast welder and convert my old bike like yours.
Dude! So fun! Your DIY wood jig work is an inspiration. Keep it up, looking forward to seeing what you make next.
We recently saw this bike at Kickstand while I was volunteering there! I had the exact thought to sit on the front cargo rack HAHA! Glad to see the creator intended it 😂
Mate this is sick! Awesome job, love the simplicity and intuitive way you figured out the measurements. I'm bad at math but into welding so I think I feel a summer project coming on!
Imagination is the only limitation. What a great job. Congratulations!
I'm digging this! I want to try and ride it.
i love how you did the paint with splashes, super cool - with the whole bike was like that!
Ha! Yeah I wish it was two. I love seeing those 80s spatter painted around!
incredible work bro, film, edit and music. People, me included, wish they had even an eighth of your skill. I love mechanical things and are are where it is at. Thanks for sharing.
capeman10 oh my! Thanks for your encourage words. I’ll keep up the hustle!
You got me at the custom pink paint job and you killed it at the yellow crate. 🤙🤟💛
I like the idea but I can see some of those welds giving out over time and repeated bumps and impacts of the front tire. I think it could be easily reinforced with some strips of steel welded over the cross bar and up and down the forks on the front and back though.
Hi! thanks for your input. I was thinking the same thing but I have just been testing it out for a few and its working good so far. Those strips would def give me some peace of mind though 🙏
I'd think that fat tire would be a good "shock absorber" for that. If it were a thin high pressure tire then yea I could see it as an issue.
Good ideas. Center frame tube is higher than wide. Makes sense. After watching many of similar videos I've been thinking that the side frame tubes could probably be left out if the diamond plate sides would be turned to form similar structure. So only center frame would go through.
Nice project. Thanks for sharing.
That's a super inspiring video and makes the build look super easy to follow. I wish you could have shown how exactly you installed the front brakes a little more detailed since that step was roughly shown. I know how to install brakes generally but in this case it's part of the customize job, so it seemed a little unclear to me 🙃
Good set up!, good technique, good job! It is so easy to criticize after you've done the work,,, and I can't tell you how many times I've
heard (after it's done) "what's so special.....how else could you have done it?" I've been a fabricator for 50+ years and I know taking the
original idea to completion is often a task of a whole lotta' thought. Good Job!😀👍
great video, great result. inspiring
This is excellent. I love the paint job attached the end too
Monica Elle spatter painting makes me so happy :)
@@johnnywikk6472 and it was black and PINK!!!!!!!! Omg yes so good
The rack as a seat also looks to be pretty good!
soo dope! That fork jig really did it for me!
Thanks! Yeah, some would say it’s not that accurate but I just wanna get things done 🤙
FORK yeah, man! I love it!
super sick project. awesome job
Hey Johnny, I'm no bike geo expert but at 0:34, you can retain a similar wheel base if you put the new front wheel maybe an inch or two back. It would result to you adjusting your cuts though from something perpendicular to an angle because you used a square tube. You will be able to play around with rake with a round tube, I suppose.
Anyway, that was just a brain fart. I'm a new subscriber and now a fan of your work. Thanks for the inspiration!
Great job. Retro design!!!
Hey thanks yo! I had a splatter painted bike in the 80s 👌
Yes, favorite bike fix video to date.
Thanks duder!
I'm getting a real Laura Kampf vibe here... that's a good thing.
ha, it is a good thing, she is is profoundly inspiring!
In my opinion, this is real cycling, you can spend as much money as you want but you cant buy the fun and satisfaction that solving a problem by creating something unique brings. Bravo, you're a role model to all of us!
The paintjob is so 90's. I made the same on my moped when i was 14 years old.
i love your work
Awesome build! I've been thinking about making one of those for years. Love the paintjob, I gotta remember that trick to flick it with your hands. I tried to flick it with a brush a few times and it never turned out right..
Phil Vandelay thanks dude! You really should, it’s pretty handy. Yeah paint spattering, I took an abstract painting class in university, it’s really paying off :)
If Phil Vandelay is impressed that is like a gold star from the teacher. Good thought processes and outcome.
Subbed. Awesome job. Both fabbing and editing. Well done.
Ride Alongside thanks yo. !
Amazing work.
Awesome Work!
Awesome work man! Keep going!
Salim Riley thanks yo! I will! Every week!
Wow, useful and uniquely cool!
Shawn Raymond dude!! Thanks 🙏 glad you enjoyed!
The content is good and the video is better, well shot and everything!! 👌
I think it needs a spring to keep a fork straight ahead. I have a basket on my bike and it is hard sometimes on low speed.
Cool video, superfun❤
Instead of extending the forks you could have used bmx or kids bike fork, extended the head tube and steerer and then mount a rack on the head tube & down tube for much better stability. Yes, I am aware that the drop in cargo fork for 20 inch wheels is in vogue!
Yeah I saw that recently, it’s pretty sweet. I just learned it is called a bakers bike. I’ll have to try that out soon!
Why not attach the rack to the frame so the steering is not weighted down? Great paint job!
The lower the rack is the better center of gravity with a big load.
if he wanted to take back the bike to original form, he only need to change the fork thats why the rack was also attach to the fork instead on the frame
Very cool man.
The only problem with this is the weight of your load leans in the direction that you steer throwing off your center of balance verses if the front rack was fixed to the bike's frame, the load remains balanced in the center of the bikes frame when steering.
mrMacGoover yeah I think that is the sacrifice it takes to get a really big load on the front, that has a low centre of gravity. Thanks for watching!
@Carl P E-mail me and I will send you some shots of my build.
@Carl P Possibly, but I am not computer savvy enough to figure it out.
Niiiiice! I´d love to be able to manufacture something like that.
Unfortunately I failed welding class so I´m stuck in sales :D
This is awesome !
Thanks Melil Hodgson 🙏
thas tite! im diggin that paint job too!
Thanks! I'll take any opportunity to splatter paint :) also I had a bike with that paint job in the 80s 🤘
Well done mate!
Super cool idea... I like the seat function.
Haha, I will never need a rolly office chair again
@@johnnywikk6472 - I was thinking the same thing but get a clip on desk attachment and you could setup office anywhere you get Wi-Fi¡! 😂🤣
Looks sick dude, great work 👌
Good stuff!
Well done!
Tthis was fantastic to watch....
The proccess and finishing is good
thanks yo yo!
My grandpa had one of these he built but with carpet on it for his dog to ride around with him. Miss that genius man.
Now that is Legit!! Gramps and dog and bikes 👌
Absolutly brilliant
thanks! you thinking about making one?
Friekin love it!
Kraftmade thanks yo! Stoked you are stoked :)
I would have painted it baby blue. Nice work.
Thats pretty sick
excellent - instant subscribe
👏 Felicidades ese trabajo me inspiró, consideras que es resistente la horquilla?

Awesome, subbed!
Yelrom Blog Dope Dood!
super cool!!!
Good video this makes cargo bikes easier to replace cargo vans👍
thanks dude!
Well done, Laura Kamf!
wow, this is not only a cool build but also a great video. I realy like your way of filming and editing. i Watched every second of this video because it was fun! greetings
Christofix - DIY Projects thanks I appreciate your kind words!
@@johnnywikk6472 you are welcome my friend! I like what you did there. My brother was here a moment ago and i showed him your video! he was also excited about the way yu make your videos. well done man!
Very cool. Reminds me of a Laura Kampf video.
skillz
solid edit too!
Wow great video!!
Daniel Raber thanks yo 🙏
Like the music, suits the video!
I love it, its like a Laura Kampf video but with John Wikk
Wow looks very good! Maybe easier than Phil Vandelay's model to carry out, but would hold weight too? Thanx 4 the idea.
nice job👍
You could even do an aluminum rack that mounts to the modified fork, to shave weight
Any chance of a new version ? Love your vids
what was that bike you were riding at the beginning .. i loved that one as commuter ... will you please share the detail about it like frame size wheel size and what is your height?!(so many questions!!).i am thingking of building a bike like this minimal commuter. i will highly appreciate it TIA
Nice job amazing i like its
Thanks yo!
Nice bike build! 🤙
TheBowserBasher thanks dude! I got another cargo on the way 👌
Wow very good
I'm liking this 👍
Very cool! Nice work and I learned something with the splatter effect you did with the spray paint. I DIG IT. 🔥🔥🔥
House / Work thanks dude!! Yeah I can’t help but to splatter paint everything! So nostalgic!
@@johnnywikk6472 - Where are you located? NYC?
House / Work naw, in Vancouver where you at?
Johnny Wikk - I’m in Naples, FL. A bit South if you. I dig your style man. Keep up the good work.
nice job
Only thing I think I'd change on this while you were making a whole new fork is use disk brakes instead of v's. Better stopping power for the extra weight.
Nice one, I'd go as far as to say it was cargo Forkin good! :)
Buenísimo super genial saludos
wow so cool
Awesome
Very good young.......
Nice job, man!
Thank you!, I appreciate it
dude i love your work! we need some velo action and maybe some open source aspect? I am working on a battery following edisons design love to help incorporate it into your works!
awesome
Brutal!!
Nice!
Nice trip!
Simonas Dailidė hey thanks duder
Very nice job. Well shot - just important key points so no waste of time watching beautiful sparks. Which makes it so informative and motivating to do similar project..
... if I only knew how to use MIG. ;(
Thank you for sharing
Big thumb up from me
Thanks for the kind words. Honestly this is my 4th welding project so here is to hoping my welds are close to pretty good :)
@@johnnywikk6472 your welds looking good - though, I'm not expert welder myself
You're doing great job with simple tools. There is nice design behind your projects.
Keep it up
Big thumb up from me
Oh, beauty!
Osvaldas Nutiko thanks a bunch I have been riding it a bunch, it fun!
Hello, nice bike bro
What kind of straps did you use at the end to tie down the milk crate?
Great job
thanks yo! ✌
