*This is already the best racing game of all time.*
Actually, it kind of was. Between the cars, avoiding cops, running into random dudes, the music, the crews and the girls (Not so much the videos), it was honestly the closest game to the actual "scene" or subculture. Which may or may not say a lot about the game itself, or the other ones. Also, cruising around "LA" was pretty cool.

@@penguinmaster7 I'm not sure if this is a joke or something, but if "real street racers" you mean people who actually go bet on races and run modified cars, yes they usually live a boring life messing with their cars and hanging out with their girlfriends. As opposed to someone who isn't a "real street racer" and occasionally drives like an idiot, typically has the time and energy to pickup different women at the bar. Street racers don't drive drunk because they get pulled over all the time, there's too much risk of a DUI. Of course you might have some street racers who don't even have a girlfriend but if they had a choice they would.

I actually loved this game on the ps2 actually played fine without much issues i can remember probably the port fucked it up
from what I've heard since yeah it appears it is the PC port thats the problem with a lot of the bugs but all of the main gameplay mechanics etc stay the same, its enjoyable at times but ultimately i struggled to find a love for this game compared to Juiced and similar others

I remember renting this game from blockbuster back in 04 for the Xbox. It was actually pretty fun. Only street racing game I knew of at that time that was open world til the 2nd Need For Speed underground later that year. The online play was fun as well. But the game aged pretty bad . Stopped playing after a good week rental and got back to playing the Project Gotham Racing 2 which was a far superior racing game on the Xbox Original, amazing online play. Best simulation racing game on the Xbox til the release of Forza1 2 years later.

@@Klapstoelmedia you found out GT4 and VC to be very crappy? They still hold up very well today and are classics. And to be honest I'm yet to find an incredible race game like GT4 was to me. It was way ahead of its time, specially in terms of graphics. Also, TDU is still used as comparision for many racing games in the style of The Crew, for example, people loved and love the hell out of it and its unique formula. But of course, this could be nostalgia speaking

Haha, up until about five years ago... I'd pull out the disc and dust it off about once a year, to do just that.
I'm still kinda sad about how Tokyo Xtreme Racer series got so overshadowed by the rest of the street racing genre. It was pretty much the game that started it all, yet no one knew about it.
txr is pretty much a car-fighting game with healthbar, but yeah i can tell it's where street racing games started

SRS was surprisingly popular in the East. I remember everyone was talking about it as a child and how everyone loved it for a change to Underground 2. Needlessly to say, it was running better in consoles and old computers.

I'm actually one of the few who actually recalls this game. I had it back on my PS2 and it was okay. Didn't play much of it. At least now I know where the budget went for this game. I had no idea this game was a dating sim.

Not like either game had good soundtracks to begin with, it was just lame ass pop rock garbage, fucking nickelback of all things in a game about racing and crashing cars. The only good song in 2 was Symphony Of Destruction. The first game was the only one with a decent soundtrack, had some actual cool songs to listen to during racing (Love To Hate To Love was the best), on top of the dope menu track.

I actually have fond memories on this game. As a kid your concept of good and bad game isnt really well developed and often you just dont know better. I remember that this game was either given free with some magazine or it was sold for really cheap at newsagents (like $2-3 maybe?), i think. I think i got it beacause i was subscribed to the magazine, and the game was great (from childs perspective), considering the price. Ahh, the nostalgian just hit me so hard.
