I can't help but think back to the four year streak of amazing deadlifts from Brian, Hafthor, Jerry and Eddie starting in 2016. Hafthor coming out of retirement is great but we really don't have anyone to replace those guys yet.
Hafthor can't support the bar on his chest during the axle press so when he dips and drives all that momentum drives into his shoulders, not into the bar. The fact he can press like this is insane because his shoulders must be so strong but he needs to correct this. It's like running on sand. I'm curious if he's always been like this. Mateusz says he still isn't 100% strength. If he gets there and no deadlift then he can beat hooper. This is possible in WSM if he gets through groups and there is no DL in the final.

Great recap. Jardine impressed me with the stones. I actually watched the whole womens comp., I was intending on only watching the men. The women were great showman and deserve their flowers
I was at the show it was awesome. Mistake or no mistake I like your show, great content and insight. Thanks so much. Were you in Ohio? If so I'm bummed I didn't see you.
When Zydrunas has won almost 1/3 of all the Arnold Strongman competitions ever held, and Brian and Hafthor make up another third, for this show it would be more unusual to not have a repeat winner. At the Arnold's there are more repeat winners than non-repeating winners (five men with repeat titles and four men with only a single win).
Best part of the show was seeing the Polish terminator, pick up that stone, like it was nothing when no one else could come close to what he did. He stole the show for sure.
A great line up but several poor events testing the same muscle groups rather than different aspects of strength and power. Shaw classic will be a true test of the best this year and may well still be Mitchell Hooper again as he has no weakness and is technically spot on.
Without hiccups based on the events Thor should win easy. The 2 overhead events are medleys so favorable to max effort per say and he is untouchable from Hooper on deadlift keg toss atlas stone squat. Now the power medley he is solid top 3 to 4 depending on the athletes competing and last event I see him beating Hooper like Shaw did.
Big congrats for mitch, mateusz and tom. Having said that this comp was soooo grip heavy. There are a couple of events that i really wouldnt mind not seeing in comp again. Dinny stones and stone medley. I dont really think natural stones are the way to go for strongest. There is so much technique involved
His lower back must be the weak link. With a bar DL the weight is out front and very hard on the low back, but a frame can be centered and lifted with more hips and legs
Bobby Thompson's right hand was swollen like a baseball mit on day 2. It kept him from pressing the wheel for more reps, and made him have that trouble with the stone as well.
Not sure what happened exactly prior to the Axle press, but during the press his ring finger on his left hand, not right, I made a mistake saying his right hand above, got stuck in an awkward down position, looking like it was out of place and when he came back behind the curtain he was getting it fixed and the PT guy, Mike, backstage was fixing it by releasing something in his forearm, among other things, I am not familiar with this stuff, but anyway, his hand was very swollen the entire second day.
Why don't more strongmen use the split jerk? I find it helps. Hapfthor is still afraid of overheads after his pec tear. And I think Evan needs a new coach, but maybe he's uncoachable.
Hats off to hooper he seemed more prepared than everyone else. Hate that most of the field is too beat up to even complete some events. The only thing that seemed sketchy was hoopers stone rep but even if they called him on that he still would’ve won with zero points on it. Did that lift really deserve 10 points 🤷🏼♂️
I do think that Tom would have put more into stone shoulder if he felt the comp was not over for him? he and no one could have known that Thor out of everyone would balls the last event , and if Tome gets a set up at home like Mateus does for the frame, Tom wins, its all about repeat do repeat for tom, he is much stronger than his placing sometimes, autism is the other event he has to do that the rest don't have to think about.
what i always ponder on is that none of the other contestants learn from watching the great techniques of Mitch Hooper, ie the split jerk he used made it much easier while the rest struggled
Mitch has weaknesses, they just don’t have those events these days. His grip is solid and he is fast enough to out run his grip in the frame. He is tough so his hook grip is great. His weight over bar. Mitch’s greatest assets are his mindset, endurance, and grit.
The only way not for women to improve is to become even more manlike this is why I don’t fancy strongwomen it’s just a poor copy of strongmen no offence but it’s true. There were 3 who still liked like women and they all did the worst in most comps for obvious reasons
@@_d0ser Its not cringe, its fact. I enjoy the strongwomen comps more than the mens but we are seeing the roiders starting to dominate competitions. Theres no point in watching 6 'manly' competitors when you can watch the men. For me I can identify better with the women as their on a more realistic human scale. Steriods will ruin this.
For me we have two guys who can beat Mitch. Tom - also very consistent. Without any very bad competition. Second one is Mateusz - but there it won't be deadlift. Even better in moving event. Very good uperbody. Great stamina.
MAN!! Hooper took everyone on the rise! 2022 after worlds everyone was talking about tom being THE ABSOLUTE best atm, then hooper came and blew tom outta the water! SUPER HOOPER! if he wins Worlds, shaws and rogues he would have the best 2 years in strongman! plus to win everything there`s to win twice in only 2 years is crazy!
This is just my theory, but the whole bloody show was 'for thor', and I get it. I think he's awesome, gifted and decent. I think Mitch knew he wasn't going to lift it, because he didn't have to. But Arnold was all about celebrating Thor. So, why not bring the old man up? They had a funny laugh about it at the ceremony.
Totally disagree. Why would they have 2 grip events if they wanted to favor thor when those were his worst in arnold history. Also for a press they could've given him dumbell instead of axel and stone which both require pec involvement. The only event you could argue was there for thor was the deadlift but that's a staple anyway
It was impressive stuff from Mitch. The surprise results from me were Tom and Martins. These events were bad for Tom and he made the podium. Martins was not as good as I expected. But Mitch doesn't do well at Atlas stones so I think Tom has a chance at WSM and The Strongest Man on Earth. But any show without Atlas stones Mitch is almost unbeatable in his current form
Tom made the podium cause Thor zeroed in the 5th event and Evan got injured. Don't get me wrong, Tom was better than last time, but his podium is not a sign of real improvement. He did a 5pound Pr on the elephant bar, but frame was the same, Dinnie's here good though, same as Axel although people thought he will do like 8, and he is not able to manage the Odd Haughen Stone. As Matt Rhodes said, the Arnold's are amazing but the last event was not thought through
@antoniocenteno1483 yeah if thor just got the first stone, he'd be 2nd l. We knew pushing events would be an issue though and having 2 pushing events back to back...
@antoniocenteno1483 Thor scored more points than he would have if the events were in the opposite order. He scored extra points because people were injured. Tom would have gotten that point advantage had the events been in the opposite order
Mitch is going to become a legend in strongman. He will be talked about how Big Z and Shaw are and he will do it in half the time. This year he will probably win all the major competitions dominating the last 2 years like Thor did in 2018 but Mitch will eclipse Thor. He's on a different level. The Usain Bolt, The Taj Podacar, The Novak Djokovic, The Mike Tyson of strongman.
Kieliszkowski's deadlift fascinates me to no end. He's amazing at damn near everything that is using similar muscle groups as deadlift. The ability to do what he can do should have at least some transferability to the deadlift and yet it doesn't. I just don't understand.
Seems like Martins only wants to do it in comp, but doesn't have a burning desire for the training anymore. Compared to Hooper/Thor who really seems to enjoy the training aspect.
Yes. Watch Martins agonize whenever he’s asked about doing the Shaw Classic. This show at Arnold’s confirmed my opinion. He’s got other things to try in life like jujitsu and his strength unknown. He can milk a nice career and be an entrepreneur in strength. Watch his interview with Loz and Brian Shaw podcasts.
People aren't lying about Mateusz's deadlift. With that 886 lb deadlift he didn't even lift it an inch. Meanwhile Evan Singleton did the 851 lb deadlift for 2 reps and had like 3 reps in reserve.
He had to lift all those in rapid succession because of them all being below 900 lbs. if he could wait for than a few minutes between reps, maybe he could have gotten it.
@@Vampire__Squid I’m just saying, if he only had to do one rep instead of two, maybe he could have hit a higher number. Hopefully his sciatica is improving.
I thought it was between Mitch and Matheusz from the get go because outside the Deadlift they all the other events suited them. Matheusz and Hooper are the Best in the World at Carry & Press events. If They would have had Stone over Bar and Bag over Bar or a Car Pull Thor and Tom would have had a better chance. They don't do alot of the comps that the bigger guys are good at anymore. I hope thor decides to come to the Shaw Classic because i feel like those events suit Thor more.
Mitch was phenomenal and once he got out in front no one would catch him. It was Thors first competition back, so he was bound to make mistakes, I’ve seen some say that his 4th place wasn’t a fair representation of how he performed, but it’s a 5 event tournament, so many people have lost out on Podiums by failing or making a mistake on the 5th event, Thor was no exception, he ran out of steam, he only needed to push the stone above his head and he would have finished 3rd, he will come back stronger. Tom deserved 3rd place he got `pB’s and we sometimes forget he is autistic, this was the first time he had competed away from home without his brother there, that was a huge achievement as any changes to a routine for someone who is autistic can be huge. Overall a good competition, questions have to be asked about the number of injuries so early on in the season. Why do 2 grip events? I didn’t find the dinny stones that enjoyable to watch, I think there were better events that could have been done + at this level we shouldn’t be seeing so many failures. The weight was too heavy in the 5th event after such gruelling events prior. However it’s going to take a lot to beat Mitch, I think if the events are right for him then Tom could but Mitch seems to be able to do everything. WSM will be extremely interesting this year👍🇬🇧
Matus said last year after Mitchel win that he is still very young and had no injury yet, when that happens the "fortune" will decline. But thats fate of every strongman I guess.
I missed the stone medley but from the results it looks like Thor lost his chance at a podium finish on the stone medley. 0 reps for him on such an event was not expected
I enjoy watching the Arnold and Rogue livestream and I am a huge strongman fan. I no longer watch the wsm on tv because I already know what happens. They should livestream the wsm and also still have the tv show for the mainstream audience. Mainstream audiences who watch the tv program are usually not going to know who won and not going to watch the livestream. I bet most of the hardcore fans are like me and don't have time or interest to watch the tv show anymore because its old news. So they should be able to do both live stream and tv show without risking losing views of the tv show.
I'm a great fan of the Dinnie stones, they're a Scottish tradition and anyone who attempts any type of lift with them is a real strength purist. Unfortunately I found them a little deflating in a full competition.
Angelica Jardine had my brother and I out of our seats on the stones walk and then the stone medley later. She was impressive as hell. And Mitch is a Monster. It was nice to see the Arnolds truly heavy again. The last couple years were weird(especially with that really stupid rock throw last year).
Hafthor is just getting started from a 4+ complete layoff and massive injury. Just give him about six months, if he continues to train for it, and you will see Hafthor domination again. His goal was not even to win this competition. It was to get back into competing. Even somewhat debilitated.
Its the same problem with Mateusz every year. He needs to figure out the Deadlift. If he could consistently get Top 5 in deadlift. He is so go at Sholder & Carry events he could challenge him.
I think Thor would have smashed the stone to shoulder if he hadn't have to push that first stone first, his overhead strength clearly isn't fully recovered. Once it is, I think he'll be a difficult man for Mitch to beat.
The only person I can see beating Hooper would be Tom at WSM because Tom has Atlas Stones as a win and he would have to get some help with events he's very good at to pair with the Stones
Day 2 wasn't my favourite tbh too many injuries and failed lifts for my liking. Hard to see Martins struggle. Defo enjoyed the women's comp more but the DB became a bit confusing to follow. Congrats to all the podium winners. Tom getting 3rd was a great result for him in this comp.

Just watched 2018 WSM finals and he pressed the same way. I wonder if he could get the mobility to support it on his clavicles/chest.
@@brianmcnamara5890 In case if you didn't know, hafthor has a pec injury on the left that he's still recovering from, might have contributed to this.
Mateusz had not been invited to WSM so far
@@spikeyspike79 worlds strongest fan has a post saying he is confirmed (that's unofficial obviously) but he would definitely be invited based off of performance and even profile. Either way, I was just saying that there are top level guys who all can beat each other with the right events. But without knowing events you can never bet against Hooper.
Thor does not need to correct anything bro. He is 10 months out of a pec surgery. In a year no one will be able to out press him
I have the pleasure of knowing Mitchell Hooper due to our conversations at the gym.. He's the Real Deal..He's hungry. Deeply intelligent and most of all. He's a kind and decent human being. We get to see part of his training regiment at the gym. Success couldn't happen to a harder working Good person.
Yes, i think after Arnold Classic win loads of people recognises that he is a real deal.
The others have some serious work to do to catch him up.
Oh and no need for apologies. Nobody got hurt. No big deal.
We made a mistake and we felt that we needed to adress that.
Thank you for the comment 🤜🤛
Great recap. Jardine impressed me with the stones. I actually watched the whole womens comp., I was intending on only watching the men. The women were great showman and deserve their flowers
Women's competition was very intense, just dumbell event was a bit dragged out in my opinion.
Keep it up bros, your videos are awesome!
Best part of the show was seeing the Polish terminator, pick up that stone, like it was nothing when no one else could come close to what he did. He stole the show for sure.
Mann this Arnold was epic, was like a child at charismas time
Evan's favourite band is slaughter to prevail who have some songs in russian. Might explain the post
Thanks for the video boys
A great line up but several poor events testing the same muscle groups rather than different aspects of strength and power. Shaw classic will be a true test of the best this year and may well still be Mitchell Hooper again as he has no weakness and is technically spot on.
I can see thor and tom chalenging mitch at shaw since they have stones and throwing. thor may also win the deadlift and squat
Why is the frame so easy to for Mateusz to pick up and not deadlift? Seems like a mental thing.
His lower back must be the weak link. With a bar DL the weight is out front and very hard on the low back, but a frame can be centered and lifted with more hips and legs
the frame is picked from a much higher point than a deadlift from the floor
Bobby Thompson's right hand was swollen like a baseball mit on day 2. It kept him from pressing the wheel for more reps, and made him have that trouble with the stone as well.
Why was it swollen?
Some of them can’t even push press let alone do something that explosive
Hats off to hooper he seemed more prepared than everyone else. Hate that most of the field is too beat up to even complete some events. The only thing that seemed sketchy was hoopers stone rep but even if they called him on that he still would’ve won with zero points on it. Did that lift really deserve 10 points 🤷🏼♂️
He would have won but not by 11.5 points so would be no talking about such dominant performance
They need to send "Kieliszkowski Stone" to Mateusz!
Yep 😂
thank you for another good show!
Didn't mention Lucy Underdown first Arnolds came third, world record on elephant bar deadlift.
what i always ponder on is that none of the other contestants learn from watching the great techniques of Mitch Hooper, ie the split jerk he used made it much easier while the rest struggled
That Russian post by Evan was probably just Slaughter To Prevail lyrics ^^
Mitch has weaknesses, they just don’t have those events these days. His grip is solid and he is fast enough to out run his grip in the frame. He is tough so his hook grip is great. His weight over bar. Mitch’s greatest assets are his mindset, endurance, and grit.
I don't agree. If they 'had those events' then he would specifically train for them so that they weren't 'weaknesses.'
Mitch in a league of his own so quickly. Crazy to think he's just getting started.
Well said bros. 💪🙂
Thank you 🤜🤛😊
The women's record deadlift was as increadible as Thor's. She had so much more in the tank. Can't wait until next year's!
She has amazing deadlift, i am surprised that she haven't won the whole thing.
The only way not for women to improve is to become even more manlike this is why I don’t fancy strongwomen it’s just a poor copy of strongmen no offence but it’s true. There were 3 who still liked like women and they all did the worst in most comps for obvious reasons
@@spikeyspike79 Incredibly cringe take. Think before you type.
If Hafthor eventually recovers from his pec injury fully and gets his presses stronger, he'll be serious competition for Mitch.
Thor's pec injury really undermined his pressing.
hooper was great, shame the rest couldn't keep up
The Livestream was very good
Till his first injury
This is just my theory, but the whole bloody show was 'for thor', and I get it. I think he's awesome, gifted and decent. I think Mitch knew he wasn't going to lift it, because he didn't have to. But Arnold was all about celebrating Thor. So, why not bring the old man up? They had a funny laugh about it at the ceremony.
Like Eddie with Colin and giants
Totally disagree. Why would they have 2 grip events if they wanted to favor thor when those were his worst in arnold history. Also for a press they could've given him dumbell instead of axel and stone which both require pec involvement. The only event you could argue was there for thor was the deadlift but that's a staple anyway
@@AF-bt9cv nah get outa here with that, thor wasn't even offered cash to break his elephant bar WR
@@cisrael468 u misunderstood
Its ludicrous to say the Arnold's was set up for thor
Lol indeed
52/55 and a 10point win
Without the last stone he would have zeroed in last event like Thor and all of the sudden no such big gap
I stand by my opinion that Maxime probably didn't merit getting an invite.
Always impressed how Mateuz fights his way to the top 3.
@antoniocenteno1483 Thor scored more points than he would have if the events were in the opposite order. He scored extra points because people were injured. Tom would have gotten that point advantage had the events been in the opposite order
Lads am surprised ye didn't mention Tom's bicep goin during the wheel
Tom will not be so easy to beat at Worlds.
So many awesome moments from this event but the standout was Angelica and the stone to shoulder. That was the most insane lifting I've ever seen!
He'll be talked about more than Marius thats for sure.
Video idea, have Vytautas to comment on his previous competitions
Good idea 😊
Kieliszkowski's deadlift fascinates me to no end. He's amazing at damn near everything that is using similar muscle groups as deadlift. The ability to do what he can do should have at least some transferability to the deadlift and yet it doesn't. I just don't understand.
looked like bobby hurt his hand when it slipped on the axle first rep.
I hope Big Loz or Arild Haugen can coach Mateusz on the deadlift. Mateusz lifts too heavy in training to progress properly
Actually nobody can figure out why Mateusz deadlift is not up to par with his rest of the strength, himself included.
@@LalasBrothers I agree, but I saw his deadlift training and it looked like max lifting instead of training compared to other Strongmen I've seen
The woman needs more credit some tough girls also dumbell press was horrible for them
Guys you forget to mention Inez, she done well with her face injury as well
That was carzy to watch, very strong minded person.
@@SvenTheShoeBuyer Yes with very, very heavy grinding. Mateusz is not good at high 800s deadlifts.
@@Vampire__Squid Which makes what he does with a 410lb stone even more bewildering.
@@Thulgore Well he is objectively good at the Arnold Classic, has 5 podiums
Thor is also top tier on carrying. he beat matheusz on the loading medley at 2018 worlds
WSM will be extremely interesting this year👍🇬🇧
I on Max's channel he was good. Sam his girl friend/lover was there what did she place?
6th. Remarkable considering. She along with , Murry, Peacock and maybe Moore are technically in a lighter catagory.
Matus said last year after Mitchel win that he is still very young and had no injury yet, when that happens the "fortune" will decline. But thats fate of every strongman I guess.
11:00 the Russian words were lyrics to the song on the post he wrote the Russian phrase on.
Until WSM will be paid big money from main stream tv channels, they will not stream.
I'm a great fan of the Dinnie stones, they're a Scottish tradition and anyone who attempts any type of lift with them is a real strength purist. Unfortunately I found them a little deflating in a full competition.
I agree, maybe it should stay as one event competition.
If Tom improves his cardio, he could do 5-6 reps on the axle.
Angelica Jardine had my brother and I out of our seats on the stones walk and then the stone medley later. She was impressive as hell. And Mitch is a Monster. It was nice to see the Arnolds truly heavy again. The last couple years were weird(especially with that really stupid rock throw last year).
It was crazy how she flipped that last stone to her shoulder so easily. It was very very impressive.
Mitch's stone press looked no different from Bobby's. Either Mitch's shouldn't have counted or Bobby's, and Thor's as well, should have
Hafthor is just getting started from a 4+ complete layoff and massive injury. Just give him about six months, if he continues to train for it, and you will see Hafthor domination again. His goal was not even to win this competition. It was to get back into competing. Even somewhat debilitated.
I wish they didnt have 2 grip events and 2 push events back to back...at least interweave them or do a yolk instead of timber carry
poor planning
Its the same problem with Mateusz every year. He needs to figure out the Deadlift. If he could consistently get Top 5 in deadlift. He is so go at Sholder & Carry events he could challenge him.
I think Thor would have smashed the stone to shoulder if he hadn't have to push that first stone first, his overhead strength clearly isn't fully recovered. Once it is, I think he'll be a difficult man for Mitch to beat.
This year strongman competition will be very exciting with Thor in the mix.
The only person I can see beating Hooper would be Tom at WSM because Tom has Atlas Stones as a win and he would have to get some help with events he's very good at to pair with the Stones
Or if referees favour others eg starting before the whistle two years in the row in frame carry, getting dodgy reps etc
Most people I know, myself included, expected this W from HOOOOOOP
I was surprised to see Andrea end up so far down in the pack. It seems like the big deadlifters falter on day 2 for some reason.
