I just want to say I only started discovering your videos about 3 days ago and ABSOLUTELY LOVE this channel and your videos, your knowledge and the way you tell stories. I have been a practicing pagan since I was 16 (36 now), who has been a worshipper of both the pagan Anglo Saxon and Celtic gods. This channel is exactly everything I could of asked for. Right now I’m not doing too good economically but as soon as I can I fully intend on becoming a patreon. Please continue the good work and thank you so much for the videos
I loved this one so much thank you 🙂🌹my dad was from Dun Leoghaire and when I was very young would tell me these stories and I was completely entranced. When I started writing songs by age fourteen they were laced with foreboding and faerie. Da even told me that going wayyyy back we were related to those heroes from so long ago🤫😆

Loved the story! Those old celtic heroes really remind me of Narts of the North Caucasus. Especially this one, old hag turning into a maiden, kingdom beneath the sea, magic castles, very lovely
@@TheStoryCrow Nart Sagas are associated with Scythian mythology left in North Caucasus. I heard that some believed that scythians at some point inhabited the British Isles. At least Alan's did, as they served Under Romans. The world is more connected than we might realise.
The beginning of this story reminded me of Sir Gawain & the Loathsome Lady. Gawain is my fav, & this is my favorite of his stories. The version I know also centers around a riddle (what does a woman want? Answer: free will. I effin’ love that). So what’s up with the greyhound? I think I’m missing some references here, as she figured prominently but then her thread just ended abruptly. I kept expecting her to resurface. Do her pups show up in other stories? I agree that the Celts seem to have a lot of philosophical similarities to that of Buddhism, and Indian religion in general. Maybe the Indo-European common ancestors? Or just the collective unconscious manifesting similar ideas in different places. Fascinating. Thanks again! I enjoyed it.
Yup. The ‘loathsome maiden’ pops up quite a lot in different stories. Diarmaid is comparable to Gawain in many ways. Both seem to serve the feminine - as is illustrated in this story. Gawain is sometimes even called the ‘knight of the goddess’. It’s a great story, the one you mention. Maybe I’ll post it here.
I don’t know what’s up with the greyhound, and I’ve wondered about it myself, maybe an aspect of self, or ego that needs to be left behind in order to go ‘under wave’? A lot of this myth seems to follow dream logic. It’s also very old and there aren’t a lot of extant versions so may be incomplete 🤷♂️😅

I know he couldn't stay in the Land Under the Sea, but after all that for them to part with her being broken-hearted and him just being over it... Anyway, I look forward to our next adventure. Are there any Celtic tales where Sidhe and mortal men live curse-free and happily ever after?
