These are not a Horror games, but in Super Mario Galaxy 2 some Volcano Galaxy there is a weird Ghostly characters high up on the Mountain staring at you and in Super Mario 3D Land World 4 and course 4 Ghost Course there is a strange and scary creature behind the Fence near of the Goal. Even childs games have some scary mysteries! 😮
What about...? • Mount Massive Asylum (Outlast) • Matheson Farmstead (Slender: The Arrival) • Brennenburg Castle (Amnesia: The Dark Descent) • Ravenholm (Half-Life 2) • Sevastopol Station (Alien: Isolation)
What about...? Outlast - I haven't played it Slender - I haven't played it Amenisa - survival horror, should be on the list. HL2 - action game, doesn't applies Alien - survival horror, should be on the list
I would argue that Isaac’s return into USG Ishimura in Dead Space 2 is a much more terrifying and unnerving experience compare to his first waltz through the ship.
Dead Space 2 on Zealot Mode is the first game that almost made me throw my controller 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 FANTASTIC GAME 🎮 And I DID beat it. But HOLY SHIT!!! 😂 Zealot Mode was hard 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 With only three saves, I don't have it in me to try Hardcore Mode 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
the school from silent hill 1 will forever remain the most disgusting and scariest place in a video game ever, and the moment i simple stopped playing silent hill because it was too scary when i was a kid
I agree 100%. Also, in the game dead by daylight, you have the school of Silent Hill back since they introduce the Dlc. Always goosebumps when I play on it
I agree. Me and my friend play Silent Hill and fatal frame games together from time and I always give her the controller when it's time for school. And Kiryuu house in Fatal Frame 2. Broken neck woman has ruined my life.
For some reason as a kid I was always freaked out by the train on resident evil 0. Maybe y’all should do a list on the most underrated scary locations in games next.
Oh man, I freaking LOVE the Silent Hill franchise so much 😍 I played the first game when I was in high school and played all the others as they came out. I'm really, REALLY looking Forward to the SH2 remake and even got a PS5 solely for that purpose. My son bought me the HD collection of 2 and 3 for Christmas and I've been impatiently waiting for the remake. I can only hope against hope that one day they'll give us a remake of the original Silent Hill.
I'm a long time Silent Hill fan and I loved SH2, however, the game wasn't all that scary. Except for when Pyramid Head makes an appearance, then it was terrifying. However, the rest wasn't that scary because most monsters weren't much of a threat. The atmosphere itself was brilliantly done, it was disturbing as can be, and it all tied in nicely into the storytelling.
Himuro Mansion is scary, but I find the Kiryu House from Fatal Frame 2 even more terrifying. It’s much smaller, yes, but the atmosphere here is ratcheted even higher thanks to the ghosts of Akane and her possessed lookalike doll. You have to visit this place twice during your exploration of All Gods Village, and the twin ghosts are a constant threat after they corner you in a hallway. They’re a random boss battle half the time, which in itself is frightening. But nothing in all of the Fatal Frame series is more likely to send that chill down your spine than when you’re running for the butterfly lantern in the stairway room, only to see it suddenly blink out or find it cold and dim, and then hear the ominous whir and click of gears, followed by a hollow “Why do you kill?” from the darkness.
I wouldn't have such a big problem entering Kiryu house if the broken neck woman didn't chill there. When I saw her for the first time I started crying because of fear.
They should have a list of the scariest places in non-horror games. Every now and then, a game will take you to s spooky, creepy or unsettling location in defiance of the game's genre.
I played it, but I couldn’t get into it. It had everything RE and Silent Hill had, but it still felt like it was missing something to me. I still can’t put my finger on it.
DUDE I was not anticipating Abbott State Penitentiary in this or ANY list but you get my respect for throwing it in! One of the best games from my childhood, very nostalgic
If you ever do a second list on this I suggest Apartment 64 from the indy game "From the Darkness" that Russian-styled apartment still sends goosebumps down my arms every single time. The poor lighting, the creepy decor, the presence in one bedroom and the ventriloquist's dummy watching you constantly. Absolutely amazing atmosphere and it's often overlooked.
To me the Labyrinth in SH2 was always the most terrifying, especially the octagonal room with Pyramid Head and the Mandarins roaming about. There’s notes and memos from other people referring to the Labyrinth as “the abyss”, a maze miles and miles deep down within the earth where it defies all logic and rationality. Seeing Pyramid Head down there alone is scary enough in those claustrophobic corridors but then you also have to traverse over chain-linked fences where it’s nothing but pitch black beneath with Mandarins poking at you from below. It’s just one octagonal corridor that’s a completely optional path mind you but it’s one area that has always stuck with me all these years.
The Suburban House Infliction Extended Cut and Wildberger Hospital Tormented Souls and Usg Ishimura Dead Space and River Fields Mortuary The Mortuary Assistant and The Looping Hallway PT and House Beneviento Resident Evil Village and Wood Side/ Blue Creek Apartments Silent Hill 2 stand out to me on the PS3 or on the PS4 or on the switch
The list was alright, but you dropped the ball with Silent Hill pick. I feel like SH2 is the least scary of the classic Silent Hill games. Personally I would have picked the hospital from Silent Hill 3, but there's so many more in SH1 and SH3.
Yeah the department store in Condemned is insanely scary, if you look around you’ll notice mannequins watching you at times, like after scanning something on the bottom floor if you look up you’ll see them looking down at you.
House Beneviento? No, it’s RE2 Remake’s Orphanage. Yeah, it doesn’t have a big giant lady and her crazy daughters chasing you (which they aren’t really scary by the way, especially with the fanboys), but the Orphanage is creepy without having any monsters (well the usual kind). Kids who were there were experimented on, Brian Irons (who was played too kind in the remake, he should have been more evil) knew about it. It was also the place where Kathrine Warren was being played with by Brian Irons. I’m going to be honest, 8 is a bit overrated (so is RE2 Remake, since it’s story is weaker than the original’s), and I think there are more scary places in RE games outside of House Beneviento.
As someone who is scared of porcelain dolls and always gets panicked when a timer comes into playI think this God forsaken house from village should be higher than 3rd.
Exact. That invisible clatter of hooves was so disturbing that that part alone would be enough to express the true soul of Silent Hill. When I first played it, Toluca Prison was the part that made me stop playing at 11pm and then start playing again the next day: terrified, yes, but I was also very curious.
7:13 when One of the mannequins straight bashes his friend on the back of the head. I love games that I have the mechanic of friendly fire from the enemies. Either hitting themselves continuously, to 2 different enemies battle it out and you finished off the person at one and barely has health
Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion. it starts out looking like a cute and innocent theme attraction for children with an Adventure Time inspired friendly ghostly host. but as you delve through the overwhelming 1000 rooms, you'll soon find the innocence is a facade that slowly becomes the stuff of nightmares as vengeful spirits chase you down without stopping

The school in outlast 2 ruined me lol. The first time you encounter that creature and have to run inside the locker gave me so much anxiety. Not survival horror but honorable mention: when you pickup the shotgun in Bioshock and all the lights cut out and all you hear are splicers running around kinda fucked me up the first time
Not a survival horror game, BUT: the dream sequence in Max Payne in which you follow the never ending blood trail of your dead baby and wife through a maze of your former house/murder scene while you hear your baby and wife screaming as they’re being shot is pure nightmare fuel

Kiddie horror games except for Alien Isolation. What’s next? The factory in poopy’s playtime or freddy fazbears pizza?
Brennenburg Castle is really on another level
none of these games (besides Alien) are survival horror though

Red dead redemption 2 definitely has a few locations
Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines has A LOT of these places
Tormented Souls is a game that needs to be better known and appreciated, there are few gameplays on RUclips.

I’d have added the Gold Watcher’s Manor from Dark Deception, Mount Mastiff Asylum from Outlast, and Level 14 from Bendy and the Ink Machine
I stopped playing Resident Evil for a while cause that baby creeped me out so much...
Hanyuda from the PS2 game Siren would be the scariest location for me. 😬

The short and narrow hallway in MADiSON. You find yourself trapped with a former Nazi with your only option to run back and forth till the door opens

Infliction is super underrated.
