He was a gossiper from what i read about him, supposedly he destroyed a lot of artists, he was a coward, he knew exactly what to say, that's how he kept himself out of the army.
I read that he manufactured that lie about Donna Summer hating gays with the “Adam and Steve” comment because she crossed him, professionally.

I was born in California in1966 to parents from the mid-west who were caught up in the Buffalo Springfield/Sunset Strip/Hippie revolution. I remember growing up with the Whole Earth Catalog on my parents coffee table and going hungry while they were tripping on acid and forgetting to feed their kids. The drugs and alchohol of the counter-culture that was exploited by people like Geffen and Elliot through music - which was a large part of the movement - eventually destroyed my parents.
I'm sorry for you, Dan. People like you are who we really should listen - the bearers of the consequences of the geist.

I don't care that Geffen is gay, being gay is no big deal. He says at 1:30 of this clip that he cooked up the "gay" excuse because he didn't want to be drafted and wanted to stay at WMA. He's also outlined how he lied to get into a Talent Scout job WMA by saying that he had graduated from UCLA. He intercepted the UCLA letter telling WMA that he didn't attend or graduate from UCLA and edited the letter to support his lie. So this man Geffen is essentially a liar from the beginning.
Dan Wonder very few people got ahead in life by being completely truthful. Many top people lied to get their foot in the door. You wouldn’t understand if you’ve never had to fight for your career.

I mention the two lies in my post below, because someone has to point out that if Geffen was truly "tough as nails" as stvnburg says in his post below, Geffen would have kept his mouth shut and fought for his country regardless of his sexual orientation. Furthurmore, who's was the REAL college graduate who's job Geffen stole when he lied to the William Morris Agency about UCLA. IMHO, there's really no telling how many artists Geffen went on to cheat and rip off. Once a liar always a liar.

You can say what you want to about David Geffen, personally I like him although I was sorry to hear about is getting cross wise with Laura Nero. Regardless, if you visit UCLA, at the upper campus, there are a group of 10 or so large stone blocks embedded in a brick wall with the names of major contributors to the endowment. Let's just say he literally has his own block. You don't get a medical school named after you at a University of California school unless you have given a sh.....t load of money. Much respect, that may have been his greatest work.

I had a dear friend who was a trans female and she was dating David. We went to a few concerts and got to meet the bands back stage.... we were always treated with respect while watching the groupies being treated....well, like groupies. We had a lot of fun! Niecey was one of my maid of honors at my wedding. But that was decades ago and we lost touch with each other.

David Geffen is a great person who did music with his music label Geffen Records, and released films under his movie studio Geffen Pictures and his television subsidiary Geffen Television with Warner Bros. And he co-founded DreamWorks with David Katzenberg and Steven Spielberg.
