I will say to my dying day, Mickey Rourke's performance in Angel Heart was the best acting I'd seen since Brando's in On The Waterfront or Dean's in Rebel Without A Cause. Every mannerism, twitch, pause and emotion was perfect. You couldn't take your eyes off him. It wasn't just his good looks, it was his talent. I came away from that film believing his character was real.
He was able to play these outsider roles so fantastically well, because he was always an outsider himself. For this he didn't even necessarily need method acting, which he successfully studied with Sandra Seacat.
One word for this guy. Legend! Can't describe how excited i was when a movie starring Mickey Rourke was about to play. I loved the dark characters he played.

Mickey Rourke used to be compared to Marlon Brando. Obviously not as great but Mickey had the talent to be just way too destructive to himself n his career plus Brando rose to fame in the 50s n had resurgence in the 70s different era. If Mickey was born earlier he may of been Oscar worthy performances. But we will never know as there is decades in between the two actors but Mickey Rourke is probably one of the best living actors today just wish he had more successful performances but he is a great actor.

Career aside, résumés aside… speaking purely of ability/skill/talent as an actor, when comparing everyone at their peak, as far as leading Hollywood men I used to think Brando was #1 (if I had to name one), but after seeing all of Mickey’s best roles and Brando’s best roles too of course, nowadays I’d put Mickey at the top! Mickey 1a and Brando 1b.
Mickey needs a partner who is not an actor, someone who lives a simple life. Him hooking up with someone complicated is not gonna work. He deserves someone in his life that will look after him and has a kind soul without trauma in their past.

He looks ridiculous at almost 60 years old with his bandanas and skull rings, trying to be a rock star and lplaying the same cartoon character in all of his flops for the past 15 or so years. I think in a lot of his roles, you can see buts and pieces of his own life . Allowing him to represent his characters in more realist light then if they were played by other actors. That's why he hasn't made a movie yet that I didn't like. I don't even like wrestling but i still watched the movie only because he was in it.

I think in a lot of his roles, you can see buts and pieces of his own life . Allowing him to represent his characters in more realist light then if they were played by other actors. That's why he hasn't made a movie yet that I didn't like. I don't even like wrestling but i still watched the movie only because he was in it.
