I love Provence and lived there for 5 yrs and then Bordeaux area for 8...Portugal for the home win where we live now!! San Sebastián is great and when I had visitors I'd always go there...Just a 3 hour drive! France is beautiful, but I'd never call it home again!! Looking forward to your next France adventures!!
@@TheUnretirees Good question and it's hard to explain, but here it goes...Home is a feeling and I just never felt 'at home' there. I had a beautiful home, nice life, etc, but once my husband(French) and I visited Portugal in 2020 we both felt home! Not only is France expensive, but it was hard to connect with people...They are nice, but distant and culturally just too different from me. France is beautiful and I love to visit, but just don't want to live there! Take care and continued good travels!!
Looking forward to seeing your upcoming video on your trip to France! Heads up on the link to newsletter in the description on this video is coming up with a 404 error. However, the one on your channel description is working if folks are trying to sign up for it.
Wondering with all your research if you considered southern France for a home base? I ask because I have been researching retirement in France for a while mainly because of: superior rated healthcare (eligible within 3 months), low financial requirements, no double taxation, the obvious beauty and great food culture. Interestingly, most Americans consider it cost-prohibitive. Any thoughts?
We looked at France, Italy, Spain and Portugal, and considered weather, safety, cost of living, health care, natural beauty, ease / clarity of visa process, and citizenship pathway of dual citizenship allowed. When we put all those things in the decision matrix, for us Portugal won by a nose. But different people with different priorities or points of view can come to a different decision. Thanks!
I'd love to see a video where you break down this decision process as Portugal, France, and Italy are considerations (in that order) for a European homebase.@@TheUnretirees
Hey Miranda. Matt usually replies to comments here but just wanted to say I love this idea. We'll look at adding this to the schedule. Also, thanks for your continued support of the channel. ;) - Dawn

Hi Tamara! Curious why you would never live in France again?
