Vegetarian Soylent-Green hahahaahha there's always someone who's gonna inspire us in sure a stop motion animator gonna be like OMG you are a 2d animator you are a wizard 😂
As a stop motion animator, I gotta say, stop motion is pretty incredible, but I have tried to doing 3D animation with blender, I even took a class on it, I am amazed you are able to animate in 3D. All in all, every form of animation is super cool, even the dullest types of animations have complex peaces.
Kubo and the Two Strings and Sausage Party released around the same time. Kubo has a PG rating, it's budget was $60 million and has managed to make $50 million so far. Sausage Party with a R rating and a budget of $19 million has already crossed the $100 million mark. This speaks a lot on what appeals to the general audience. I sincerely hope this movie gets the recognition it deserves.
+K a lot of great movies don't make much money because of these mediocre movies. Pitch Perfect 2 beat Mad Max: Fury Road this year, and I'm pretty sure Star Wars: a Rogue one story is going to beat Scorsese "Silence" with Liam Neeson, Andrew Garfield, and Adam Driver. Sad to think of it, but Hollywood wants money first, then art.
Honestly speaking, the movie was a disappointment. The animation was amazing, I didn't even believe it was real "stop motion" until now. But the story was boring and predictable..
Hand drawn and stop motion animation are just special and I mean no offense to what CGI animation can do, but it's just not as human and magical and special
cgi can be special, it's just not appreciated as much because is it used so much, it is not a rare sight, so people are less inclined to think about the work
That's right and ppl should move on frim Disney's overrated cliche movies and check out other non disney movies too. (I'm not hating on Disney. I'm just saying the right thing)

animation has evolved plenty; 2d with 3d backgrounds, 2d and 3d, stop motion and vfx. Laika has done amazing stop-motion animations but very under appriciated.
The one problem I see with stop motion now, is the lack of personal touch. Look at wallace and gromit, they didn't care about the fingerprints. The where fine with you knowing that the harectars where made of clay. Whereas with something like this, it might as well be made using 3d animation, because you wouldn't see a difference.
How on earth do they get the movement to look so smooth and fluid like that? It seems like it would be so difficult to make the minute adjustments to his posture each frame, while at the same time making sure that the animation looks right/remembering where his weight is/how he's moving ect. Seems like it would be a million times more effort than CGI.
A stratedgy Aardman used to use, was to film someone doing the motion, then draw out each frame, then making sure everything is set up for the frame, before taking it. They would usually only do a few frames per day.
Static Flickable No stop motion can look perfectly smooth without any special software. It just requires loads of tiny movements, at least 30 per second, and it wil look just as smooth as video footage of a person.
Adam Kimm What makes an animation smooth is the arc, not the frame rate. If they don't use any softwares they'd have to adjust the position every single frame they shoot to make sure they follow the arcs. Just imagine how much time that'll take. So I think they use softwares
I've seen Kubo and the two strings, and it's freaking amazing. When I was watching it in theaters. I kept thinking to myself, "wow.. these guys must really devote their lives to this stuff. I would never be able to have enough patience for this!"
This is just fantastic. I love stop motion animated films. Coraline and Kubo the two strings are my favorite from this genre. It requires a lot of patience, vision and hard work to make these films.
People who do stop motion are amazing! I never really do anything that's 3D or anything related to that but omg people who do it are so talented! I love 2D animation.

I've dabbled in stop-motion a bit and hope to go back to it, and I've also researched it a lot but this video makes one really interesting point that I hadn't thought of; the way that there is all of the design and preparation and deliberation, and then there is a moment when everything comes to a climax and then it's just the animator, the camera and the puppets until the scene has been completed, days or weeks later. This seems to me like it mirrors stage performance in this way - except of course the whole process is drawn out over a far longer timeframe
