  • Birding scenes from beautiful Plum Island, Massachusetts, April 25, 2019.
The Little Egret (Egretta Garzetta) is an irregular Eurasian visitor to the Eastern U.S.
Birds shown are Greater Yellowlegs and Eastern Willets, Red-winged Blackbird, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Killdeer, Brant flock (from 1:51), Long-tailed Duck flock (2:18). From 3:02 on we have a Little Egret together with a group of Snowy Egrets (Egretta thula). It was fascinating to watch and listen to their interactions.
The following features are useful in separating adult breeding plumage Little Egret from Snowy Egret. Little has two long head plumes, stringy breast plumes, slightly more slender build with longer neck (see 3:57). In April breeding birds, lores in Little are greenish-yellow, whereas Snowy lores are yellow-orange. In non-breeding birds, the dark gray lores of Little make a better fieldmark. The voice of the Little Egret in this video was lower-pitched than most of the Snowy vocalizations.

Welcome to BIRDING VISIONS - portraits and sound recordings of birds and their habitats, sharing the sublime beauty of nature. These wildlife videos are both documentary and impressions of an experience. I hope you get a sense of being there: from the Rock Wren of remote Willis Creek Slot Canyon, Utah, singing Whinchat in the coastal heathland of Norway, a band of Arabian Babblers in the desert sands of Israel, to soaring Kites over Kyoto, Japan.

    Nice video!
There have already been records of Little Egret in the Caribbean including at least two birds that had been ringed before in Europe (France or Belgium)! It is unbelievable, that these birds can cross the ocean, even if they were ship-assisted.
    Did you find that bird?

Hi, When I arrived in the parking lot at Plum Island someone told me a Little Egret was reported.
