Hey Everyone ! What do you think about this little DX Prime... iv not spent a lot of time with it but I like what I see so far certainly worth looking at especially for those of you that are primary DX users out there. as always thank you so much for watching getting closer to that 50K now 😍
I think it's a welcome addition to the DX family of Z lenses. I've had the new DX 12-28 PZ lens for several days now and I'm enjoying shooting with it on my Z fc. Because of that I don't think I'll invest in this new 24mm lens, but I do hope to see more DX lenses coming from Nikon!
Nice to finally see the 24mm DX lens out, seems like a good overall lens. I would have considered purchasing it but did purchase the 40mm F2 for my Z30 not too long ago mainly to be able to get better shots when lightning is not as good.
So happy that Nikon decided to release this lens. I know that DX (crop-sensor) cameras aren't really a major focus for the likes of Nikon and Canon, but I think a DX lens here and there would do well to help Z30, Z50, and Zfc buyers feel like they didn't waste their money.
Indeed it adds a lot of versatility along with the zooms. Low light while staying compact, close-up stuff (in the all important particular foodies here in Asia) with shallow DoF, people's images with shallow DoF. Great addition, will pair mine with the 50mm 2.8 MC on the z30, real nice two-primes setup, compact and capable. Yes, I would prefer 28mm equivalent, that's my preferred focal length, but guess I will survive with a 36mm equivalent...
I don’t feel like I wasted my money; I just got the Z50, 40/2, 50/1.8S and that 40 is wonderful. 50 is kinda big and heavy for my liking, I may return it and get the 26 or 28. Personally I would rather buy the FF Z mount lenses
I have a z30+ 24mm f1.7. I must say this package is compact and delivers great quality pictures without looking too much of a serious photographer. Rangefinder form factor makes people more comfortable that a dslr type.
Sure, but you can get a similar kit from other manufacturers with a larger, dedicated APS-C lens line-up and nicer bodies... That is Nikon's problem in a nutshell. Seemingly next to no commitment to DX.
So glad you did this early quick look. I have the Z50, which i am loving, and have been keenly anticipating this lens. That camera is really drawing me into the Nikon world. All the insights you share are encouraging. Will look forward to a more thorough full review.
So far, I've never seen a bad (poor performing, optically) Z mount lens (and I've had plenty). I'm sure this one will be the same as far as the images you get. Even the little 16-50 gives you great images. People may whine about a plastic lens mount, but come on...the lens weighs nothing. Unless you routinely drop your camera and like to bang the lens against solid objects, there's no reason at all why a good quality plastic mount on a featherweight lens like this would be a 'problem'. The only problem is in people's minds. They should concentrate more on making photos rather than crying about plastic mounts on an inexpensive lens (that still has great optical quality...and weather sealing).
I think the problem is Canon are releasing primes at similar price with metal mounts and a switch on the barrel. It just makes you look cheap by not doing those things. Plastic is alright say sub 200 price, even then the 35mm 1.8 G lens (very popular DX lens hugely popular), is under 200 and has a metal mount. If you're paying more and get less, it's fair game to point that out. Plastic is only acceptable IMO for the cheapest kit lenses
@@MrBazReviews I'll take more rather than less any day (if it's included). I understand what you mean, but I also also challenge people to compare the optical quality of the cheaper Nikon Z mount lenses like this to cheap Canon lenses. Until you've used them, you don't realize how much of an improvement they are (Z mount lenses) over the F mount lenses or even modern mirrorless lenses from Fuji, Sony, Olympus and Panasonic (I've owned all those brands). So, I personally would take the better performance for what matters (making nice images) vs a metal mount that doesn't help me and a button I'd probably never use on the side of the lens, but everyone has their own preferences.
@@ThePhotographyHobbyist I'm not sure you get what I'm saying. I'm purely talking about cost cutting measures (and this applies to many makers not just Nikon) All makers have good/weak lenses, no doubts about it. I'm mostly referencing the RF 28mm 2.8, which does have a metal mount, does have a switch on the side (and the MTF also looks good but no I've not used it or seen images from it) It's too vague to talk about how much better Z mount lenses are, because many F mount ones are much older. It has more to do with newer designs, than it does a new mount. For example the 70-200mm 2.8 E is a great lens, and so is the new S Z mount, but I'd be pressed to say the new one was far better. The F mount a later design so it's much closer. Still you get a real lens case with the F Mount one, and a cloth wrap with the Z mount (again more cost cutting) I'll go further still, there is more to any lens then pure sharpness. To me the look is critical, if I find a super sharp lens with a bad rendering or poor look (bar a wide angle lens), I'll scrub it off the interest list. There are plenty of good lenses on all mounts and some like the older ones. Photography is far far more than sharpness alone.
I still think hooked on photography is right overall as the dx buyers are always looking at cost and wait, from a newbe prospective, I'd say quality is a given be it cannon nikon etc.
@@daveyboy6210 Most buyers are not even going to look at APS-C, and only Fuji take that format seriously (and look at their prices) Crop has had it's day, and Nikon's Z line up is so weak it's not even worth considering. Head straight for full frame. Once someone gets more experience, they're not interested in just sharpness, it's the "look" that counts Some are excited by the next best thing (some even pretend to talk about good enough yet don't follow it)
I really hope that Nikon makes the SE version of this lens. This lens is a dream for Zfc so the SE would complete the retro look and serve as my everyday lens for it.
Thanks for this review - I have literally just received the Nikon 1.7 24mm and intend to use it for street and lowlight on a Z30 which is a super portable combo. The only thing I am not sure of is the lens hood - as a matter of course I always fit a UV filter to my lenses for protection. looks to me as if I can only fit this filter to the lens hood if I intend using it - the alternative being fitting it to the lens and forgetting the hood.
I own a Z50 and a Z6II and I use the Z50 as my every day carry camera. I will be looking at this possibly as one to get for the Z50. Wish they would do either a 16 or 18mm for a 20-24mm wide angle effect. But I am curious how it will preform at night. Not real wide for astro but you could still get some astrophotography done with it. Glad to see Nikon getting more lenses to their dx lineup now!
Nice video, why don't Nikon put aperture rings on their lenses to complete the zfc experience? Viltrox lenses have and are great quality in the same price bracket
Ricci - I am inspired by and really love your images, and am encouraged by mention of your own use of the Zfc too. In light of your suggesting you ‘may’ make a video on your Zfc settings, usage and how to get the most from it …I am looking forward to that video immensely!!! Thanks, Catherine O
Glad to see this lens finally get released for those who have stuck with Nikon DX. I gave up on waiting and sold my Z50 after almost 3 years. Happily for me, this lens is not as thin as the outlines in the lens roadmap said it was going to be, so I'm not as disappointed to miss out. For those who buy one, enjoy! I'm sure it's going to be excellent.
As usual I really enjoy your equipment reviews, thank you Ricci. I think the 24mm f1.7 will be very welcomed for DX users. Can I ask do you know why Nikon removed a very useful feature "Peaking Stack Image" from Focus Shift Shooting on the Z6ii and Z7ii please? I have the Z6 and Z7, I find this function very useful in the field to be able to check you image for sharpness knowing that you have what you want. I would like Nikon to re-instate it on the Z6ii & Z7ii through a firmware update.
Great... Somewhat happy to see DX lenses. I hope they give 24 or 35 mm DX lenses with VR. Sony has 35mm with OSS which is their best seller. I hope Nikon give us 24 or 35 mm prime with VR. Please... I bought zfc and z50 as well. Thank you so much Ricci. Great presentation. ;)
It will be on my shopping list. I have the 28mm and use it extensively on my Z50, but having a truer 35mm focal length equivalent in a small package with a fast aperture is a game changer for me. I have a couple of Olympus Micro 4 Thirds bodies and on these, my favorite lens is a 17mm f 1.8. This new lens will allow me to create that shooting package on my Z 50.
Thank you for the first look. I wonder why Nikon did not introduce an additional SE variant. The 28mm SE and 40mm SE are a perfect match for the Nikon Z FC. Especially because the 24mm is for DX cameras and is apparently also made for the ZFC. At least Nikon's product images partly show the lens with the ZFC. Strange decision not to release an SE variant directly.
ARRRRGGGG! This is the lens that SHOULD have been packaged with the Z fc from the get go! Why the heck do NIkon have a 28 2.8, a 26 2.8, and a 24 1.4??? They are so freaking close in focal length. It makes no sense. So many of us who bought a Z fc just wanted a fast DX prime to begin with. For anyone who owns a Z fc, this lens seems like a must-own, while rendering our 28 2.8 virtually useless.
Wish Nikon would make a super wide fast and affordable prime lens for Z dx format. That would be great for astrophotography, especially with a startracker.
Thank you for this great review. I have a z50 with the two kit lenses. This new DX l24mm 1.7 looks great. Unsure if I should get this though, because I have the 40mm f2. Would appreciate your take on this. I'm just a photo enthusiast; non-professional. Thanks again!
Very nice channel. I have a Z30 with a 16-50 3.5 lens and I would like to switch to this 1.7 because I see that I have noise in the house when taking pictures. Do you think it makes a difference?Thank you
That's a really nice DX lense, F1.7 on such a small thing is pretty impressive when you see fuji with it's 23 F2 that is bigger and with a higher price ( 499€ ), i think the fuji's may be a little sharper but that price and small size really is nice :)
The Fujinon 23mm f2 is an all metal, 9-blade aperture, weather sealed. Pride of ownership, a lens that’ll last forever, while Nikon continues to treat DX users like beginners with plastic mounts, something you won’t even find on third party lenses. With every plastic lens Nikon releases I’m getting more and more sorry that I invested in a Z50 system.
@@marike1100 if Nikon built their DX lens like Fuji (metal frame, weather sealed, 9 blade aperture), I guarantee the price would also be $499 or higher due to the name Nikon. But since most DX buyers are beginners/hobbyists photographers, they are keeping the price down to have those users get a taste of photography at a affordable price.
I'm looking forward to it. I can't wait to try this on my Z50. I have the F mount DX 35mm and I love using it in shows where the light is low. This would've have been useful for me during my little sister's graduation where the light was low and the opportunity to take a photo was limited due to a large crowd.
Nikon should release an updated Zfc with 4k60 and IBIS. the 35mm equivalent is now covered with this lens. A 28 and 50 mm equivalent around the same size next. Nikon can and should take the fight to Fuji for the image and street photography aspect with the Zfc.
I think nikon just needs to release two more lenses for the dx lineup. Probably a fast standard zoom and prime(a 35mm 1.7 would be nice). Then it would be better if they could release a z80 or z90 to be a dx flagship camera. Just my 2 cents. What do you think?
Now that Canon has come back into the cropped-sensor market with so many new models (R7, R10, R50, R100), can we expect new cameras from NIkon in this format? Canon easily has the AF advantage at the moment. I've been using the full-frame 28mm f2.8 lens on my Z50 and enjoying it, but the new lens is clearly the one to go for.
Can you talk about if these classic dedicated dials camera like Fuji, Leica M and Nikon Zf are as fun to shoot with as people said it PASM camera are fun too? I not a spec and bokeh chaser and I just want to have practical yet fun to shoot setup, I planned to get Sony A7RV for the unique 4 ways screen but now I will get Nikon Zf instead for the classic dedicated dials experience, is it worth it? I thought to get a manual focus Voigtlander 50mm f1.0, Nikon own 14-30mm f4 and 70-180mm f2.8 but I also going to get a Panasonic HC-X1500 25-600mm camcorder too, should I drop the tele lens for the camcorder even tho I want to shoot some compression photos and also maybe get a small M43 Lumix GX9 with an ultrawide lens to replace the ultrawide lens so I don't need to change lenses at all?
Nice quick look! I'd kind of like a 22f2 non-compact non-S FX prime. I like the old-school "fall off" MTF's of the 26mm that reminds me of the 24f2.8D. Maybe even the 24f4 of the 24-120F4S as a prime with those nice sun stars. Then pair it with a 60F4S macro. I wasn't crazy about the 50MC as a general purpose prime.
Ricci, After seemingly being one of the handful of people on the planet not won over by the Fuji X100v’s mix of features, i’ve placed my order for this Nikon dx 24mm to use with my Z50. I’ve pondered getting a ZFC as a back up, but have been holding off hoping Nikon would give us a Z50II. But with no solid rumors i’m pondering that ZFC. Could you share why you opt for it over a Z50? And, do you use it without an additional handgrip? Thanks.
I'm really glad to see Nikon coming out with these types of lenses, especially since on the Zfc this would make a perfect street combo (at 36mm equivalent). The sad reality though is that people shouldn't get comfortable with the DX releases as there may not be as many as there were for the F-mount, and this does make sense. But this is a welcome addition to the family and it might be what makes me get a Zfc after all (I was never really a fan of the 39-42mm equivalents when using the 26 and 28mm pancakes for FF, but this (also being a native DX lens) may be the ticket, as I've grown to like the 35mm focal length for street and casual shooting with a prime (50mm equivalent is fine, but sometimes its too narrow). That being said, though, Nikon SHOULD also do a 35mm DX lens just to at least have a few fast primes for the DX crowd (I know that Sigma is supposed to fill some of that role, and they have with some of the others) but I think if we could also get a 35mm DX, the DX Crowd should be pretty satisfied (aside from also needing a "D500" replacement but in mirrorless form and maybe an ultra wide like a 10-20 or an 8-16 as 12mm is not exactly super wide on DX). I do have to say that the comparison at 0:39 surprised me a little as I thought the 24mm DX was shorter than the others (at least this is the impression that is given in photos I've seen so far, looks more compact than it actually is it seems) but still it's not bad, just surprised it's taller and about the same size (diameter) as the 28mm. But the price is good on it regardless... For those who don't like the plastic mount, it's not huge and it's not heavy. And unless you go around banging your lenses around on things, a plastic mount can be just as durable (if it was a 70-300 or something longer, then I could understand). On the other hand, if you are going around banging your lenses into things, then we may have bigger problems than just having a plastic mount. (on a side note, I guess now we can simply say: "Z5 to Z9" since we now have a camera for all gaps from 5 to 9, whereas before we had to sort of spell it out so to speak).
Thanks as always for a informative video. I have the 28mm for use on my Z5 and I have the Viltrox 23mm for my z50/z30. I think for my uses, I have the right lenses. Your video helped me from needing to buy ANOTHER lens! LOL
Thanks for a useful review. Like you the Zfc is my walk around camera, like you I’ve never been a fan of the 35mm full frame equivalent lenses. Like you I frequently use a 28mm on Zfc I enjoy the way it looks and sits acceptably for both portrait and general shots. Good to see a relatively fast prime in DX, but not for me. Look forward to the next (DX) Z prime from Nikon.
like... why NIKON makes 28mm and 26mm? I cant imagine anybody who´d be like: "ohhh boiii, this 28 is too long for my needs....i need something wider...like 26mm or something..." and vice versa.... :D
I'm actually not aware of Nikon's lens categories. My question is - what are the lenses I can use with the Z30? I'm thinking of getting the 12-28 PZ. Apart from that one, I need a prime lens. I'm considering either the 26 or the 28 or the 40. Will all of these work with the Z30?
It just seems that Nikon cannot make a FX lens specifically for low light applications. This morning when I saw the email from Nikon I was super excited that I would have a premium lens for astrophotography. Not this time.
I get a little confused. This being DX.. if I put this on my zfc, will it be a true 36mm focal length? IF so this will be a great contender for the fuji x100v. great travel kit
@@okaro6595 nah, I learned alot in that time. The crop factor of the zfc is x1.5 So whatever focal length you put on a crop sensor (not full frame) will be the length X the sensor.. so 24mm x1.5 = 35mm. I bought a 35mm Nikon dx, that's 52.5mm on the zfc. So essentially a 50mm lens
THE MOST anticipated Nikon lens is the 200-600. I KNOW of 10 photo people using a SONY 200-600 on Nikon Z cameras with quite a bit of mods to achieve that. I use the 200-600 Sony on my families A 1 . They think my Nikon Z 9 and now Z 9 are better. PROBLEM: They are trying it with certain situations that my high end Z lens can handle. BUT the REAL DEAL is that in the field I have MANY times realized I suddenly needed a very different focal length, ZOOMS rule in the real world. Ive been in Alaska, Yellowstone, etc. and had guys who shoot a lot in the field say their 200-500 F 5.6 was BETTER than their $10.000 to $20,000 rigs as it is more suited to being able to quickly adapt to the real world. The PHOTO PROS that Nikon showcases do NOT have the positive impact Nikon thinks they do, They are often shooting under very stilted cases with models and a LOT of flood light s, and other contrived gear. I had a FORTUNE (over a quarter of a million) in medium and large format. The Nikon F 5 and 20-35 zoom I had was often more used for images. JUST why Nikon has stalled and leans towards $10,000 to $15,000 lens and still is in the "testing phase" on lens that have great customer interest. Thom Hogan says all Camera manufacturers want to take their customers higher. IN PRICE not ability. I have seen cases where photographers get better gear, and produce poorer work. I have had TOO many cases where that has happened to me.
At the end of the video you show a shot of focus breathing, but without commentary. I’m a bit confused as to what it means? Does it mean that if you just let it sit there it will go in and out of focus like that slot? That would be a bad thing I’d think? How does that compare to the other lenses?
It’s going from out of focus to locked in focus. Focus breathing means when it locks on focus, you can see the background of the image pulse in and out of focus slightly as it locks on. This doesn’t have any and looks very good in that regard.
Did you compare the sharpness of 24mm lens and 28mm at the same aperture of 2.8? I see they are quite the same at f4. I was really waiting for 24mm lens, because it was announced for quite some time, but then I decided to buy 28mm like two weeks ago...
I think that if I were a DX shooter, this might be the strongest evidence yet that Nikon considers DX to be a lesser option and that there’ll never be any really strong DX lenses. The 26 and 28 don’t seem particularly strong, this seems to fall short of those. I couldn’t see myself ever being happy with this.
A note to DX shooters: You don’t need S level lenses that are sharp on 5K monitors zoomed in to 200% comparing side by side. If you’re viewing your photos on phones, tablets and even 4K TV’s, your photos will look great with every lens Nikon makes, including this one. Remember, people will love your images, not the pixel level sharpness. Have fun with photography. All of Nikon’s equipment is excellent for that!
At 2.8 the 24mm is just as sharp as both the 28mm and the 26mm, but for half the price of the 26mm... It also has more contrast than the 28mm, so I'm not sure what video you were watching but this lens looks like a great deal.
I had almost decided on a 12-28 with an 18-140 with the Z50 until I saw this. Now I am not sure whether I should replace the 12-28 with the 24. Suggestions welcome!
Sure you can mount but you get only about 11 megapixels and it is not as wide as you expect, it looks more like 35 mm. There is no sense in buying this for full frame. Now in some full frame cameras it might be good for video if the mode has crop but I do not know enough about Nikons to comment more.
I kind of hope they make an se version. Also i know dx bodies don’t have ibis so I kind of wish this lens did. Even if the aperture had to drop to f2 just to fit vr in there.
You need to put the camera into aperture priority or manual if you want to directly control the aperture. Then you change the aperture from the body. On other modes like shutter priority you can change it indirectly. Sure you can tale landscapes at f/1.7 if there is nothing on the foreground - or if y want to blur it.
Nikon really needs to work on the lens aesthetics. This 24mm f1.7 with the lens hood looks like a giant microscope eyepiece. It looks like something you would use in a lab, as opposed to something that would inspire you to take beautiful photos.
Some of the comparison shots about size show the 26 with the lens hood and the 24 without it... would love to see some "pocket checks" on these also. With sharpness and size I decided to keep my 26 2.8 on Zfc...I have a FF with 35 1.8 S if I really want low light. My main jacket pocket with lens of 28/40 and lens cap, it doesn't go in either. the 24mm is basically the same length. The 26mm with almost half the length and no lens cap protruding goes in both my jackets easily. It doesn't look so much of a difference on the video, but the pancake is SIGNIFICANTLY smaller in person, like wow tiny once mounted. The sharpness wide open is what sealed the deal though, the 24 1.7 looks soft / unusable to me wide open, where 26 2.8 is sharp as a tack. So if you're wanting a lens to make your Zfc jacket/coat pocketable I'd still highly consider the 26...
Looking at the photos, the new lens appears to be of lower contrast and less sharp than the other two lens. The new lens is also quite soft wide open. I really can not understand why Nikon have produced a F1.7 lens which is soft at its max aperture. Given that it has a min aperture of F11, it is clearly meant for low light shooting and shallow depth of field. Disappointing, to say the least. We also need to see the lens perform in real life, to see the distortion, field curvature, focus shift, flare, and ghosting performance. Thank you for your introduction.
The MTF charts are pretty awful. I predict the lens is going to be low contrast with poor edges. You will probably need to close it to f/4 to get acceptable image quality.
From the pictures provided here, it looks like it performs just as good as the 28mm and the 26mm if you were to stop down to f2.8, and is slightly better and more contrasty than the 28mm when wide open. Obviously he didn't show corner sharpness.
@@RiposteThis Let's wait for controlled tests, you can't judge a lens from some random samples. I'm skeptical, there are no miracles, a cheap lens with simple optical formula, with no advanced coatings, which is also f/1.7 is very unlikely to show good image quality. And MTF looks like that too.

Would love to see how it goes on the Z30 for vlogging. Whether it's too narrow... No VR however :/

I'll go further still, there is more to any lens then pure sharpness.
@@daveyboy6210 Most buyers are not even going to look at APS-C, and only Fuji take that format seriously (and look at their prices)
Crop has had it's day, and Nikon's Z line up is so weak it's not even worth considering. Head straight for full frame.
Once someone gets more experience, they're not interested in just sharpness, it's the "look" that counts
Some are excited by the next best thing (some even pretend to talk about good enough yet don't follow it)
I really hope that Nikon makes the SE version of this lens.
It would be interesting to see the 24mm sharpness at f2. Also to compare it against the 16-50mm kit lens.
I hope you are currently recording the video about the 200-600 Z :)
Damn, that’s a good looking combo on the black paint ZFC
Would like to see a video about why you like the zfc and how you use it
Glad to see this lens finally get released for those who have stuck with Nikon DX.
Thanks, can you give us a short explanation about the U1/U2/U3 we had in the Z6 the equivalents on Z8 (shooting A ..) ???
Great presentation. ;)
Cool comparison between a DX prime and its FX brothers. Didn't know what to expect but the video is illuminating.
The Black Edition Zfc looks so beautiful. 😍
My thoughts too. Currently selling my 28 2.8 and waiting for the 24 1.7 to arrive.
Finally ❤... native Nikon DX prime lens with f1.7, can't wait for more native Nikon z mount lens dx lenses 🙏
Thanks for the review. I am a new Zfc owner and would LOVE to see you do a video about your lens usage.
The lens is convenient, and so far I like it, even though I miss VR stabilization.
Thanks.
If only you buy a lense for Nikon z fc…what it’s your choose?
It is quite obvious that a high-quality, fast, cropped lens will be better than less fast lenses for a full-frame camera
Is the Nikon Zfc water resistant, learning that the 24mm F1/7 is?
14-24 2.8? 20 1.8 ? There will also be a 35mm 1.2 at some point, it's in the roadmap.
I'm curious now between the 40mm f2 vs 24 mm 1.7
Definitely 24 mm on APS-C. 40 mm is not a good focal length for most uses.
I get a little confused. This being DX.. if I put this on my zfc, will it be a true 36mm focal length?
IF so this will be a great contender for the fuji x100v. great travel kit
Yes. It's equivalent to 35mm in full frame.
@@victorlim5077 sweet. Shooting in raw with this and my 17mm f1.4 will be awesome when I'm overseas
It is 24 mm. It never can be anything else. It gives the same angle of view as if you put your zoom to 24 mm.
@@okaro6595 nah, I learned alot in that time. The crop factor of the zfc is x1.5
So whatever focal length you put on a crop sensor (not full frame) will be the length X the sensor.. so 24mm x1.5 = 35mm.
I bought a 35mm Nikon dx, that's 52.5mm on the zfc. So essentially a 50mm lens
I would love for you to look at the trio of Viltrox (DX) primes and how they stack up to the Nikon's.
How does the lense focus without actually extending/contracting? Does that mean I can do the same for manual lenses?
Informative and helpful. Thanks!
Am I right to think that around 10:46 you are talking about the two lenses being stopped down to f4, but showing us images taken at f1.7 and f2.8?
Curious, what did you mean when you said iso is irrelevant?
Okay. I am not waiting any more. I will buy this with a zfc. The interest free financing these days is too good to pass up.
I don’t like barrels that move because I’m paranoid and prefer internal focusing but that 26 is tempting at 39 fov but there the 28 at 42 fov
Do you think this lens will also be available in special edition vintage look?
At the end of the video you show a shot of focus breathing, but without commentary. I’m a bit confused as to what it means? Does it mean that if you just let it sit there it will go in and out of focus like that slot? That would be a bad thing I’d think? How does that compare to the other lenses?
It’s going from out of focus to locked in focus. Focus breathing means when it locks on focus, you can see the background of the image pulse in and out of focus slightly as it locks on. This doesn’t have any and looks very good in that regard.
When are we getting a Z50ii ?
never
Really impressed with samples I saw online
Did you compare the sharpness of 24mm lens and 28mm at the same aperture of 2.8? I see they are quite the same at f4. I was really waiting for 24mm lens, because it was announced for quite some time, but then I decided to buy 28mm like two weeks ago...
And I would also love to hear your thoughts on 24mm vs 28mm in terms of different FOV. Thank you!
@@RiposteThis OK, I’ll go back to my full frame box then. I don’t understand the excitement.
@@RiposteThis no, it’s just cheap. That’s really all it has going for it.
The zooms waste this thing.
@@dionysusrex9183 Cheap, light, small, with solid optics. Similar to the original 35mm f1.8G according to MTF charts.
Please talk about z fc. I’m love mine so I’d love to hear see more content for that camera 😇
If the zfc had a joystick, I would be interested. But it doesn't, so I'm not.
I had almost decided on a 12-28 with an 18-140 with the Z50 until I saw this. Now I am not sure whether I should replace the 12-28 with the 24. Suggestions welcome!
Why would somebody want to put a filter on the *outside* of a lens hood, where it will be susceptible to glare?
hello, can you try mounting 24mm f1.7 to full frame body like z5? i want to know image circle size on full frame body.
A beginner here, you said that we can change the F to 11 from 1.7. How do we do that? At F 1.7, it won't be able to take landscape shots, is it?
You need to put the camera into aperture priority or manual if you want to directly control the aperture. Then you change the aperture from the body. On other modes like shutter priority you can change it indirectly.
Sure you can tale landscapes at f/1.7 if there is nothing on the foreground - or if y want to blur it.
Why no comparison at 2.8? That would have been more fair when wide open.
The only bothering stuff is probably the plastic mount. But all good as it is f/1.7
Nikon really needs to work on the lens aesthetics. This 24mm f1.7 with the lens hood looks like a giant microscope eyepiece. It looks like something you would use in a lab, as opposed to something that would inspire you to take beautiful photos.
I have to think about "the current line of DX-cameras"...
This might seem weird but i wish someone would compare the viltrox 23 1.4 and this tonthe 23mm f/1.4 from ttartisan (all manual)
Wish nikon will release some f2 non-"s" smaller prime for fx as well
Hope Nikon release SE edition for my silver Zfc.
A DX lens without VR??? Bro you ain't got any crop cameras with IBIS!!!
I really wish Nikon would update the Z50.
Great review
wow, 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Excellent ;)
Finally👍
I prefer 28/2.8
Such a shame no VR in this.
Wow between this, the viltrox 23mm and maybe if the sigma 23 comes to the z mount, there are a lot of options now.
I haver the viltrox but am temptadora to buy this for the size. The viltrox lentes are too tubular, despite being very good
Looking at the photos, the new lens appears to be of lower contrast and less sharp than the other two lens.
It is a criminal act in 2023 to cheat customer with a cheap plastic lens mount at this price … very bad
First!
Eeeeew, plastic mount lol. Makes no sense.
Nikon will not release 200600 this month. (June 2023) I'll jump to the sony.
But when they do release it you will just jump back what a waste of money
