Your workshop is fast becoming a do-anything-shop. The lathe is an excellent addition. Need some good tooling or it is near useless. It's like a kitchen stove without any pots and pans!!
Very much looking forward to see you making progress on the mongrel.

I've modded an inverter tig to add a foot pedal before, it's pretty simple. You are just adding another variable resistor and switch.

I know its been long since you posted a comment, listen I have tig that came without pedal but there is option to connect one 14 pin, my question is can I modify any pedal to make it work with 14 pin, I mean if cheap pedal is 5 pin male can it be modify somehow to make it work with 14 pin female?

I have the stahlwerk ct520p tig/mma and plasma cutter. There not bad machines at all for the money and I'd definitely recommend them to any home machanic/welder probably not so good for industry use but perfect for at home.
You can also buy the foot pedal from there site or ebay.

Totally agree with you regarding cheap tools. I'm retired and just mess around in my home garage enjoying myself trying not to produce too much scrap. Without cheap stuff whether it's Chinese or second hand I'd not be able to do half the stuff I do. You just have to adapt to the limitations of the kit. I enjoy your videos and your skills are way up there with the best. Please keep them coming.

Hi Matt, I’ve got a Stahlwerk CT200P that I’ve just started to teach myself to tig weld and have to say that given the relative cheap price they’re a brilliant machine.
Also from what I’ve learnt with my machine they do have a pulse function but only when set on 4T.
Really enjoyed the video again and always looking forward to seeing more from you, believe it or not watching your channel has taught me so much already so any time that I watch I always expect to learn something more.
Keep up the great work both on and off the channel, you’re doing a great job of it.

I mounted a shear on a post that dropped into a socket set into the floof back in 1994 all I had to do was lift it out and there was just a 40mm square hole I could put a lid on when needed. It also came in handy when I got a big guillotine weighing over 5 tons and needed to position it dropped a peg in the hole and attache a tirfor. I have been welding since the mid 70's and never used a foot pedal, recently got a new tig with one but still not used it, guess I am stuck in my ways now.

Nice going, glad to see you demonstrated on what looked like 3mm, 5mm is easier but then you can do 5/6mm with MIG, Before I got a pedal, I left the torch in 2T and and no downslope and just "pulsed on the switch", you've obviously got the tight arc and travel speed off pat-really nice beads there.
The CE mark is on everything sold in Europe irrespective of where its made( I think,) and yeah, Stahlwerk kit is built in China- so what? so is R Tech kit innit?. The other thing your mate can do with that kit is TIG brazing- can be handy to have.

  • @adamclassiccars
    @adamclassiccars 5 лет назад +1

It looked like you left it in 2T you could try the 4T mode for Aluminium to help with the heat reduction once you get a good heat soak. Once in 4T mode there is 6s of downslope available so you could use this to try and give a similar effect to a foot pedal and keep cycling through full amps, downslope, full amps, ... Although not as flexible as some 4T or foot pedal it might give you a little something extra

Another cool video! Interesting what you were saying regarding cheap tools. I’d tend to agree as long as you have a decent idea how the tools are supposed to function. I’ve bough unbranded stuff before and knowing how they are supposed to work really helps troubleshoot. Always concerned with something like welding buying super cheap, people will think they are crap, when in effect doesn’t matter how good your technique is if the machine is junk welding will be super hard to impossible with it. Just my 2p worth of thoughts anyway.

You could warm up the workpiece with a gas torch and then weld on lower amps all the way through this methodis good for thicker plates or tube that need more amps than the welder can do, I always find a water cooled torch a great idea if your doing lots of high amp aluminium as the air cooled ones are only rated for 150 amps with a 40% cycle and they will melt at higher amps

Tungsten is Swedish, meaning "heavy stone" , and it is very nearly as heavy as gold. Wolfram is of German origin, and translates to "wolf froth", describing the metals reaction to melted tin. Wungsten beats me, but Wig does sound like a very dangerous button to push. Like enabling ridiculous arc, putting your hair on fire... 😬

Its WOLFRAM (inert gas) not wongstrøm or whatever u said. Basically the same thing. They use the same metal in lightbulb, it can take a lot of heat. Tungsten is from swedish Tung Sten, heavy stone. I would guess wolfram was a guy?
    Anyways, same thing :)
