    We are similar in age, background and interests, your videos feel like listening to an old mate.

    Hey Rob. Great video. You and i relate really well to one another. Really similar stories the last few years. I'm pulling for ya buddy. from golf, break up, depression to not feeling like we have a purpose. I'm really struggling with the last one myself. I think ill be giving your tips a try. curious as to how you relate with your friends? You still hang out with a few? If you do, do you feel different around them? Like you're just not connecting like old times? That's the way i feel. Its like pouting with nothing really to pout about. Anyways keep staying strong. This American loves your butt, even when you have no idea who i am. Love your vulnerable openness.

    • @RobMcGarr
      @RobMcGarr  2 года назад +2

      Hey mate. I still have my closest friends from school days although I live a long way from them now. It's still a good laugh when we do get to hang out, even if a lot of the time is spent reminiscing about the old days. I think it's normal to make new friends as you enter different life stages, although it's not always easy to do so! Maybe Americans are a bit more open, but British guys, after a certain age, tend to be a bit more... closed off? Thanks for the support anyway. Hope you're doing well 💪

    Good to see another video from you!
    I don't know if anyone else feels like this.
    But personally, the more I accept how I am and put less pressure on myself, the better I feel. Placing less importance on myself.
    Anxiety has been bigger for me though, but does follow with depression.
    I recently reflected on what my dreams/expectations are and then thought about my grandad and how he spent his life/his quality of life (he was a miner.) Made me realise how little I appreciate things sometimes!
    Also just remembering to find things funny and be silly more often. Why are we so serious 😅
    Balance will always be key.
    Look forward to more videos :)

    • @RobMcGarr
      @RobMcGarr  2 года назад

      Yeah, I definitely know what you mean. Only thing I find hard about that though is that I don't necessarily want to just accept how I am and how things are, because I want them to improve. I guess there's a balance to be found where you can be content in the present while still working towards things.
      You're right about that, I think I'm at my happiest when making people laugh!

    Hello Rob, I know a lot of people say religion is a load of bollocks, but it is a coping mechanism. I fast once a week and every year I won't eat for 3 days, on the morning of the third day I'll get up at 6 and run 3 mile, 1 because I don't like running at that time and 2 because there's no one around and if anyone saw me they'd think I was having a stroke! Hard topic, probably harder than the hair loss. HOPE is the key point and I personally been going back to scripture and Christian messages. I am driving 30 min each day and tend to listen to Christian messages like Joel Osteen which is generally uplifting with a positive spin.
    If all fails, I am listening to The Smiths "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" at full blast or go golfing - well both can make you feel either way 😉 God bless

    Hi Rob, great video, enjoyed your golf content but if you can do stuff on well being that would be great. Just wondered your thoughts on alcohol and diet and are you still a vegan? I was a gray area drinker (worth looking up) and gave up alcohol completely and had a massive improvement in well-being and energy. Like you I don't want to be preachy but if anyone is sober curious it is worth checking out. Thanks

    • @RobMcGarr
      @RobMcGarr  2 года назад

      Thanks mate. I feel diet is really important and often overlooked. I'm still vegan; actually planning to do a month of completely whole food plant-based in Feb and see how that goes. I was teetotal for five years but now have the occasional drink. I thought about making a video about it but not sure what my point would be! 🤔

    I stumbled into this having previously followed the golf stuff, but my take away is that this is very much a First World problem, where people with a lot of choice and opportunity have too much time to think about their life and how to procede living it. When our minds are fully engaged surviving our environment it's far less likely we will dwell on all the negativity and things we don't have "perfect" in our lives.

    • @RobMcGarr
      @RobMcGarr  2 года назад +1

      I totally agree, but where does that leave us?

    • @SearchBucket2
      @SearchBucket2 2 года назад +1

      @@RobMcGarr I experienced the same in my thirties when a high pressure software project came to an end after 18 intense months. I fell into a hole created by the sudden vacuum. I climbed out of that hole by abandoning the sofa/bed and just doing stuff, trying not to reflect on things. Stuff with no goal other than to keep my mind engaged on positive things, like hobbies. It took about six months. Forgetting about the past and busying myself on a day to day basis on those simple things is what fixed me. In my opinion, too much introspection can be a bad thing. Good luck....

    • @RobMcGarr
      @RobMcGarr  2 года назад

      @@SearchBucket2 Yeah that makes sense. Too much focusing on the past or future doesn't help. In fact, don't they say that too much of anything is a bad thing?!

    Depression is a BITCH and of course its cousin anxiety. I could write a book here right now, but I won't. What I will say is I never appreciated the impact it has until it happened to me. I tried about everything and I mean everything over a 4-5 year period, but for me it was the teachings of Eckhart Tolle that really helped me to start to pull out of my depression. I also did and still do some micro-dosing of mushrooms. Which for me was especially helpful since I took anti-depressants of all sorts for years until I finally found out I am ultra sensitive to them and they were causing more harm than good. Micro dosing has proven to help re-wire the brain and the results for me have been pretty amazing. I am still fighting the good fight, but my days are a lot better now and I can golf again too. I totally agree about exercise. I have worked out my entire adult life, even when I was at my lowest, and always felt better after a workout. Anyway, I feel for you mate and am glad you are also still fighting the good fight.

    • @RobMcGarr
      @RobMcGarr  2 года назад +1

      I loved The Power of Now and also The Untethered Soul (not sure if you've read that?) Have heard the term micro-dosing a bit recently but haven't looked into it so no idea what it means really. Hope you're doing well my man 💪

    • @Alan_Edwards
      @Alan_Edwards 2 года назад

      @@RobMcGarr Power Of Now can be a life changer for sure and also A New Earth. Have not heard of Untethered Soul, but I will check it out. You can find information on micro-dosing, but it's not for everyone. I was at the end of my rope so I figured, why not. Thanks for the comments.
