@@zacharyjohnson6453 I had to look up the name but I know who the Temps are bc I'm 70 yrs old and grew up with their music. I'm also a huge 4 Tops, Drifters and Coasters fan, too. I totally agree with you about Melvin. :o)
The male voice ranges are, from highest to lowest: tenor, baritone, and bass - with bass at the bottom. Bowser was/is (because Jon Bauman is still alive) a bass. So was Melvin Franklin.
I really wish they had done a straight, uninterrupted version of this -- the best I've EVER heard! Bowser was never appreciated for the magnificent vocalist he truly was....
Until now, I only knew Sha Na Na from Woodstock. I’m from the Netherlands and had no idea that they were also comedians. What a delight to discover that there is so much to enjoy to be found
Of course Sha na na was funny. American here. I used to live in NL. While in Europe, it seemed to me that many Europeans were negative and judged the positive aspect of Americans. Please know that “positive” does not mean “simple.” To be positive is a daily or moment by moment choice. (To say “have a nice day” actually does mean that we desire a stranger to do so-what is wrong with hoping the best for others?). In any case, I believe that Sha na na was popular for 2 reasons: 1) classical voice training and 2) a willingness to be “silly.”
I just turned 40 yrs old and I used to watch The Sha Na Na show when I was a kid. It was a family tradition on Saturday nights in our house. I'm so glad to get to watch them once again. Thanks to everyone who posts the old, but still great clips.
Sha Na Na was the first concert I ever attended with my mom and sister. I always loved Bowser. I never realized how beautiful his voice is until this song.
Of the show ten, eight are still alive. Jocko, Donny and Screamin are still the a part of Sha Na Na. Johnny still performs & teaches voice lessons. Denny is a lawer and teaches law. Santini is an orthopedic surgeon. Lenny is retired. Bowzer has his Stingrays band. Dirty Dan and Chico have passed away.
Bowser's voice is perfect for the song, the jokes are really bad, and the opening lyrics had me in chills he fit it so well even making fun of it. Damn. Never saw this show, but it was a long time ago comparatively. Glad this got shared.
Will not deny this was the sketch that made me fall in love with this guy, although getting to meet him in person was another step in the right direction! I was the oddball who wore poodle skirts and chucks all the way through middle school and high school so I was over the moon when I found out he was having a Christmas concert in a nearby town very close to my birthday. what I didn't know is my mom sent him an email explaining I was Autistic and SNN happened to be my thing, he freaking REPLIED and asked if I wanted to do a hula hoop contest, sadly I can't hula hoop so we compromised and decided to meet up. And let me tell you, you think Bowzer has a low octave on the show just wait until you hear it in person because his voice CARRIES, I will not deny I was starstruck when I heard him call for my mom and asked if I enjoyed the show. That whole experience is a definite core memory and helped me cement the fact that I liked doo woop poodle skirts and Rockabilly and it didn't matter if I didn't dress in 'style'
Yes, I've really enjoyed seeing this again. So Cute and Creative video. I've heard Vaughn Monroes Great verson of Ghost Riders. The Blues Brothers did a good verson in their movie. Probably over 100 Artist have recorded this song, doing instrumentals, too, by Roy Clark, and Buck Owens on Hee Haw Show 🎵 written in 1948 by Death Valley Ranger Stan Jones. In 75 years this song has certainly withstood the True test of Time!! Bowers Voice was Perfect for this Song. Always like the Sha Na Na Guys. Glad this is on here again, im going to watch alot. Loved the Parody, Costumes, Singing, so Cute , Clever and very Memorable in 2024. I needed this Uplifting Video. 🎶🎵🎶💕💗💕👍👏👏😊🥰🐎🐴🐎❤❤❤❤
Sounds like you are a big fan of this song, as am I Back in the Napster days I made a whole cd of different versions! From western to heavy metal. Debbie Harry and Frank Sinatra also did it
Bowser is the only one I have heard that can do this as well as Vaughn Monroe did. You all are likely to young to remember Vaught Monroe..................fantastic voice. Love this.
In the past I have listened to that Vaughn Monroe recording a fair amount (though it's certainly before my time). And it's possible that Bowser does a better performance than Vaughn Monroe in this song.
Indeed, it is a fine version, but you truly have not lived upon this green earth until you have listened in silent awe to Lorne Green's version of Ghost Riders in the Sky.
I know I'm to young to say I grew up with Sha Na Na but I love them just the same as it I had! O remember watching the reruns of the shows they were in an one year they did a 45 hour special for new years an I watched as much as I possibly could!
They CAN have it buddy... show them the shows... start a group/ band.....a shsnana tribute .. they can have it... people just need to do it; that's why or kids know ozzy crue police beatles stones..etc. we fed them a steady diet of what we grew up with..

I remember listening to these guys back in the 1960s at the swimming hole we hung out at . And the skating rink on Fri and Sat nights . My kids watched them during the 1970s, and I think my daughter was in love 😍 with Bowser.😂
Around the 3:00 mark, notice the guy with the dark glasses. I think he's supposed to be The Lone Ranger, but the mask was protected by copyright and even Clayton Moore, who played The Lone Ranger couldn't wear one later in his career. He had to wear dark glasses too.
Here's what gets me. Bowzer sounds very much like Harold Reid the bassman for The Statler Brothers. And who did The Statlers sing backup for when they started out? Johnny Cash, the original singer of this classic!☺B.W.
@inspire734 sorry correction 2 are dead and all the other 8 are still with us. from the very original group there is one gone. Vinnie Taylor (1949-1974) It owuld appear that 8 of the TV series are stil alive and ther are at leat two form the original goroup alive. great buch.

@Tonithenightowl I can go considerably lower, but I envy his clarity on his entire range. Bowzer epitomizes the perfect bass for the musical period in which he sang.
My Dad was a Baritone, and you sing Beautifully like a choir, but I really wish you would redo it with a Christmas scenery behind you. And sing the Baritone part as the lead. And really belt it out there, with emotions and feelings and passion when you sing JERUSALEM, JERUSALEM..... like my Dad did. He did it better than Pavarotti. You could do very passionate baritone leads, but your too passive and concerned on every part blending, but this song is meant to be very very passionate and pow, it's supposed to send chills up your spine with such power. Bring tears to your eyes and warmth to your heart and soul.
Lol! This is sooo funny!!! I heard this before! And I always liked this from the video's I saw it from lol. Which was weird because I never knew what the band was who played it lol. "The little woman" LOL XD
For a guy from Brooklyn, Bowzer looks pretty dang perfect as a cowboy. And might I say HAWT too! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Bowser has a great voice for this song and he looks cool in a black cowboy outfit.❤❤
I’ve watched and heard Sha Na Na since the 70s and I never realized that Bowzer’s voice was so magnificent!
He attended Julliard at the age of twelve.
he looks so young now.
That was the wrong song to turn into a joke, but Sha Na Na gets a pass.

You can tell the classical training , but the talent is just there. Bowser voice is magnificent. The ultimate baritone.
