There is probably a good reason why Tech-Art did not make a version with built in x0.7 focal reducer. That would increase the market to all the Sony APSC as well.
Hmm I was looking at the Sony EA4 but I too didn't like the 1/3 loss of light... this Tech Art should work on an A7iii, correct?? Oh and that Minolta 85mm.. man that's a beauty!!! I'm going to be looking for that one!!
Thanks for this, this is amazing. I just bought my techart instead of the knock off fotoblahblah. I'll see if I can 3D print the front plate rather than filing it down!
If you set the adapted lens at its closes focusing distance you can focus very close when combined with the Tech Art all the way out. Just return it to infinity when needed.
This is very promising. Two tests I'd like to see... recorded AF speed tests (front and back focus) and use of this adapter shooting video with a-mount glass on an e-mount body. The LA-EA4 & LA-EA3 are unusable shooting video with AF enabled. This could potentially be a game changer.
Bob- Thanks for watching and for the timely suggestions. I've been shooting some additional performance footage to accompany my next video and these are some great ideas for my upcoming "torture tests". I'll begin the design phase for an A/B split screen experiment later this week (post turkey-induced stupor) to trial this; please watch for BTS updates after the holiday on my FB pages and on Twitter. Regards and have a happy Thanksgiving!

+Bob Gladys - Bob, I agree wholeheartedly about the LA adapter series! I'll be conducting TIMED cross-evaluations with a matrix of APS-C and FF bodies, several venerable alpha lenses (35/1.2, 50/1.4, 85/1.2, etc.), in a shoot-out pitting the TAP adapter v. LA series in the near future. You've also given me an idea for a follow-up video experiment I'll design and record- a tip of the Prototographer cap to you for that! Thanks for your observations and stay tuned....
Have you tried the Techart adapter with the 135mm Zeiss? That's probably the lens I'll miss the most while switching over to E-Mount, but I'm concerned with the weight slowing the AF down. Thanks for your time.
Excellent work!, but I have some questions: 1) This is like adding extension tubes which work for macro work but often do not work with infinite focus? 2) Do extension tubes reduce light anyway? 3) I am wondering about the speed of focus, is it comparable with the LAE-4 adaptor? Looks to me like Sony would be very interested in utilising this set up in a new product, only downside is the lens movement, I would imagine it would put a great deal of strain on the adaptors motor when using larger lenses. I could reverse engineer the electronics, if someone is capable of manufacturing the mechanics.
This adapter certainly makes lots of combinations open up. People who created it are very innovative. But the LA-EA7 is not quite reliable as some users reported malfunction(motor failure). Hopefully, we can see some improvement in the new generation TZM-01 for Nikon Z.
What is the consequence of using that second adapter? Doesn't it none the lenses to far away from the sensor? Does it change the effective final length and aperture? Don't you get some vignetting?
Fotodiox has released a Pronto Pro for Fuji X mount (looks basically the same as the Sony E mount version). Do you think it would be possible to modify the Techart Pro to be accepted by Fuji X cameras? or do you think firmware prevents this?
Would this work for EF adapters? I can't seem to find a definitive answer if they would fit. I have lots of Rokinon manual lenses that I would love to use
Great, but indeed you don't have to break/mod the TAP LM-EA7, just remove (2 or 3 screws) the silver ring of Kipon MAF-M and it sits on TAP as such. I even added a small screw instead the small tab that remains in the slot revelaed after taking the silver ring off, to have better finger -feeling to open/close aperture.
I wonder why there isn't a version for Fuji X -series bodies (and Canon EF lenses?). Another question: are you aware of a recommended weight limit for the lens? FotoDiox recommends against the use of theirs with lenses heavier than 900gr. Is that the case with TechArt Pro, too?
This is very interesting. Do have numbered your Tech-art adapters. Are you using these in any professional fashion? As in are they good enough for that?
I would modyfie the connecting adapters and not the Techart. Its way cheaper if you want to resell the techart but since you have 4 of them it doesnt really matters for you
Hi What do you think of the use of the minolta 70-210 Beercan with the Teckart pro? the 70 210 weighs 695 grams, the limit of the Teckart is 700 grams. Do you think it is possible?
It's not gonna work on the 70-210mm and probably not going to work on quite a few other Minolta AF lenses too. The Tech Art Pro adapter only works for lenses that are unit focusing, meaning that all the lens elements move together to achieve focus. Most old manual focus lenses do this but more modern autofocus lenses quite often only move some elements in the lens. The 70-210 only moves the front group. Additionally you will also lose the lens metadata resulting in having to manually set your camera stabilization every time the focal length is changed. The LA-EA4 or LA-EA5 are by far the best options for the 70-210. Now that we have the LA-EA5 there's pretty much no advantages to this technique anyway.
Ok, so Jeff... this is very very exciting!! First, you're saying my Minolta MC 58 1.2 or Minolta MD 50 1.4 could be AF with this combo and mod? Second, then, and this is my greatest interest... I've backed via Kickstarter two new Oprema Jena Biotar lens (75 1.5 and 58 2,0 both under two pounds) so... to shoot on my Sony A7R2, I could either shoot the lens manually on my Sony... OR... ... get a Nikon F mount for the new Oprema Jena Biotar lens, use them manually on my F100 and then get the Techart adapter (Leica M to Sony E) and a second small adapter (a Nikon F to Leica M adapter, which I already have) and have AF capability on these new vintage lens... Is that correct? Do you know anyone doing such a thing for "new old" vintage lens? Anyone using a lens and taking it from Nikon F mount, converting into Leica M (via any old adapter) and then into E mount (via the new Techart Pro)?
And adapters to Leica M-mount are also quite more expensive than adapters to other mounts, whether E-mount, X-mount, MFT-mount or EF-mount. On average adapting a lens to M-mount is 4 to 10 times as expensive as adapting it to one of the mount i just mentioned. Add to that the price of the Techart Pro.
I'm wondering if I could auto focus my bunch of manual focus e mount lenses if i would have the same adapters and modification but add an a- to e- mount adapter. What do you think?
i must have gotten a bad adapter since it never worked, got the last version of it, the V6 and I never got support from tech art nor the ebay retailer so i had to return it......
I'm little bit confused i want some help! I want buy mitakon 85mm f1.2 and use it with sony a6000 and i need cheap adapter? Can you recommend wich one i need to buy. Thank you!
+Gary Reed Unfrequented World - Gary- I love a good challenge! Stay tuned for my next video- I think you'll find it interesting... and timely. Thanks for watching and for a great query!
Why don't adapter manufacturers put the bulky electronics/motor "pod" on the top of the device, instead of underneath, in the way of tripod quick-release clips? Who cares if it blocks the brand of the camera?
And I thought you've come up with a solution to bypass the translucent mirror and fool the camera to think the LA-EA4 is a LM-EA7. The LM-EA7 is not useful for long focal length lenses.
Shang-Hsien Yang I have the Techart and it is very useful, long focal lenses too. You just have to prefocus yourself a bit, and it still works. I have no issues doing this on a 135mm lenses. Haven't tried with longer ones, but the same principle applies. Prefocus manually, then autofocus.
Will there be a follow up video showing the AF performance?
There is probably a good reason why Tech-Art did not make a version with built in x0.7 focal reducer. That would increase the market to all the Sony APSC as well.

Could you try this with the new Techart adapter that just released? It’d be amazing if this works seamlessly now

With LA-EA4, exif data is preserved. Not sure about this adaptor setup ?
If you set the adapted lens at its closes focusing distance you can focus very close when combined with the Tech Art all the way out. Just return it to infinity when needed.

Do you know of any mods for the original Techart pro to tighten it back up after years of use to remove the lens wobble that develops over time?
Have you tried the Techart adapter with the 135mm Zeiss? That's probably the lens I'll miss the most while switching over to E-Mount, but I'm concerned with the weight slowing the AF down. Thanks for your time.

This video is a bit older but you can get cheap Chinese MAF-LM adapters now for about 20 bucks.
Fotodiox has released a Pronto Pro for Fuji X mount (looks basically the same as the Sony E mount version). Do you think it would be possible to modify the Techart Pro to be accepted by Fuji X cameras? or do you think firmware prevents this?
Will you check out the LA-EA5 adapter?
The LA-EA5 makes this entire setup in the video irrelevant. Just get the LA-EA5.
How do you set the aperture on this lens with a manual adapter?
With the level of focusing motor noise, I'm guessing it's not suitable for video mode ?
Nice, do you know if TechArt is updating the adapter to mimic the modifications you made?
Omg are you on SPEED or what :D??
Would this work for EF adapters? I can't seem to find a definitive answer if they would fit. I have lots of Rokinon manual lenses that I would love to use
No it wont
And I just bought the LA-EA4...
I love this

how is this 3 years later? still worth doing? i have a a7ii
I do hate, that I can't use the Techart with my Battery grip :(
This is very interesting. Do have numbered your Tech-art adapters. Are you using these in any professional fashion? As in are they good enough for that?
But is the Leica lens with adapter that much better than the G-master.
I would modyfie the connecting adapters and not the Techart. Its way cheaper if you want to resell the techart but since you have 4 of them it doesnt really matters for you

Man, I really wish TechArt would make a Fuji XF mount version of this adapter too.
That is really nice.
+Programmer Qn - Thanks!
TA adapter is quite more expensive here in Europe, almost double.

Interesting, whats the name of the clone?
I'm wondering if I could auto focus my bunch of manual focus e mount lenses if i would have the same adapters and modification but add an a- to e- mount adapter.
What do you think?
Any luck? I am trying to do the exact same thing
Instead of modifying the techartpro what about using a third adapter that fits in the middle
Where can we buy this Tech-art adapter??
i must have gotten a bad adapter since it never worked, got the last version of it, the V6 and I never got support from tech art nor the ebay retailer so i had to return it......

I want buy mitakon 85mm f1.2 and use it with sony a6000 and i need cheap adapter? Can you recommend wich one i need to buy. Thank you!
have you used mitakon 85 with techart yet. i also want to try this. thanks
i'm not too sure about doing this with a heavy lens
how do you support your hobby. these lens are more expensive than my car.
How can I order this said adapter set from you?
Does this work on A5100 and A6000 ?
Did it work on a5100
Now show us the focus working...would love to see the speed.

Where is video u modify techart?
Option B is to buy lens that is made for sony body. I have tried adapted lenses and it is not a good option for me.
Why don't adapter manufacturers put the bulky electronics/motor "pod" on the top of the device, instead of underneath, in the way of tripod quick-release clips? Who cares if it blocks the brand of the camera?
The similar autofocus Fotodiox Pro PRONTO AF Adapter for m-mount to e-mount is very similar and cheaper than the Techart one.
And I thought you've come up with a solution to bypass the translucent mirror and fool the camera to think the LA-EA4 is a LM-EA7. The LM-EA7 is not useful for long focal length lenses.

Can you use these adapters on a Sony e-mount video camera?
Yeah
If only it worked with the a7 :(
Use 75% play speed.thank me later
Never destroy the LM-EA7 like he did .
