It's actually unreal how fucking good this band is.
I like them more individually than as a band. But I'd go see them. Power metal isn't my thing. I love Destrose and Fami.

Congratulations on discovering Lovebites. In their first five years of existence, they put themselves on par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. If they are not your thing, then you probably simply don’t like melodic metal, because they are the best at it.
They recently went on a year-and-a half hiatus while they waited out the pandemic and searched for a new bassist, after their founder and original bassist left the band for personal reasons. They announced the new bassist in October 2022 (see below) and dropped their first new song on December 22--you just watched it. Their new album, “Judgement Day”, was released two months later.
They did their first live performances in more than two years in summer of 2023, with their new bassist Fami. Their very first show was commemorated on the DVD “Knocking on Heaven’s Gate”. They have posted four performances from that DVD:

Some background:
They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and founder of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the great European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other groups. The four of them then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she was also trained in ballet).
Miyako has composed a little more than half of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics and is also getting involved in composing.
In mid-2021, Miho left the band she had founded, for personal reasons. They went on hiatus while they searched for a new bassist, and during that time, two of them had babies, even as the band were writing and rehearsing their new album. They recently announced the new bassist, Fami, who is a young phenom and herself a composer and multi-instrumentalist. The instrumentalists studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance was that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining.
They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like crazy). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band."

Miyako is also a virtuoso concert pianist, and was headed for a career in classical music, before picking up the guitar. She is self-taught on the guitar. Finally, the audio tracks of some of the new album are up on youtube, and worth checking out. The band clearly came out swinging and wanted to make a statement. Every song on the album is a showcase of their incredible talent and songwriting capabilities. “Stand and Deliver” is a thrasher with a fun video of them in the studio. “Soldier Stands Solitarily”, the final song on the album, is being touted by some as the best thing they’ve done so far-I encourage you to see and decide for yourself!

I think one of the unexpected surprises of Lovebites is their fans.
I have never seen .....bad?...no that's not quite it...but the fans always are welcoming to the noobs, always full of appreciation of the shear musicianship, talent and class of these ladies.
I've also noticed that many of us are musicians or involved in the business some way ourselves, and I think Lovebites is on the same path as RUSH.
By that I mean, Peart is always referred to as "Your favorite drummer's favorite drummer." and so I see Lovebites becoming "Your favorite metal band's favorite metal band".

Rock/metal is not dead, just moved to Japan and other countries and became feminised. It became too depressive in the old countries, the musicians became bad and only looked from the stage without joy.
Saw Lovebites live, on a small stage. You listened to metal and looked into smiling faces. You had the feeling that they were looking you in the eye. I danced into my hotel with light steps and not the usual heavy gait.
LOVEBITES is a five-member all-female, Japanese heavy metal band with deep musicianship (plus classical music/piano background). They transcend gender, genre, and geography, with some 60 songs in their discography. They won Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award for Best New Band (2018), toured with Dragonforce (2019), first female Japanese band to perform at Wacken Open Air (Germany) and others in Europe, and are unusual among Japanese bands in choosing to sing in English plus good lyrics (a daunting task for native Japanese speakers).

They just left Europe after touring for the first time after 5 years of not leaving Japan. The shows in London were the 14th of june and the 1st of july.
They are on their world tour 2024, they just left the UK and Europe and are back in Japan, they will also tour the US: Atlanta, Dallas, LA, and San Francisco.
I hope they give Asami time to rest her voice.
I am a musician so don't take what I'm about to say as shade on their abilities, but I heard Asami's voice cracking several times on the British footage in bars and larger venues.
The voice is the one instrument you cant replace or change the working parts on.
These ladies are absolute machines in the best sense of the word but Asami needs to rest her instrument.
I hope they give her more time to recoup between gigs in the future. 😎🍻

Although the main composer is the dark haired guitarist Miyako, each one of them compose and arrange. The main lyric writer is the singer Asami.
🤘🐺🤘 Lovebites is one of the best live acts in the world.
I've been watching a lot of the video from their small-stage gigs in Britain and, as cool as it would have been to have been at one of those shows, I think they need the larger stages these days to suit their sheer power and stage presences.
There is nothing quite like Midori stalking from one side of the stage to another and Asami has an etherial feel on stage that I have not seen since Stevie Nicks back in the day that requires a large stage to let her dance around.

That is a historical question and retrospectively a forgone conclusion: Today the Phenom is touring half the world demonstrating their prowess in bringing on next level heavy metal performed by elite accomplished musicians who are Jedi writers, composers, and arrangers of heavy metal music.

These ladies are the most incredible band I've found in years.
They are absolutely jaw-droopingly good.

Only two of the girls are over 5' tall and the tallest is 5'2" (3'?)
They are spot on, note for note live and Haruna (drummer) is always in the pocket.

@@gordonnottsfinest180 I was a Iron Maiden Fan since they began and these gals SO remind me of the tightness of the guitars the nonstop insane drumming,the bass keeping that rythem drive, but I have to be honest her operatic vocals was originally hard to get used to, but once it did OMG all the songs became even better in my head!!
Like i said, I was an Iron Maiden fan forever,and Bruce's voice is almost operatic also , so I do not know what my problem was!!

Here some information about them:
The band was formed in 2016 by original bassist Miho and drummer Haruna. Their first EP and album came out in 2017. So far LOVEBITES have released 4 albums, some Singles/EPs and also a bunch of DVD/Blu-ray live recordings.
Back in 2018/2019 LOVEBITES have already toured in Europe, including appearances at the major metal festivals as Wacken, Download, Bloodstock, Graspop. In 2018 they also won the Metal Hammer UK Golden Gods Award for best new band.
Then came covid, their original bass player and founder Miho quit the band for personal reasons and two babies were born. After a break LOVEBITES came back with new bassist Fami and new song „Judgement Day“ in late 2022. A new album with the same title came out in February 2023.
LOVEBITES just finished touring in Europe. I saw them for the first time 2 and a half weeks ago 🤘🏼🐺🔥
They will be in the US later this year.

She has an amazing vocal range and vibrato, writes most of the lyrics, also did parts of the song writing for their latest 2 albums, she is a former ballerina and RnB/soul singer
Miyako on guitars, piano, keyboards (the golden touch):
She is the musical brain of the band, main composer and arranger, a soulful but also shreddy guitar player and concert level pianist, furthermore she is a gear nerd
Midori on guitars (crazy shredder):
Incredibly fast and technical guitar player, has contributed to songwriting for a few of their songs, also she is a body fitness athlete
Haruna on drums (little big engine):
Plays very fast pace over long distances, she is very efficient and her stamina is admirable, the cymbal work is outstanding, she also wrote one of their songs including lyrics, creates handmade miniature fake food
Fami on bass since 2022 (shining fingers):
Absolute bass prodigy with outstanding technique, she speaks faster than sonic speed as she plays and smiles non-stop
Miho on bass until 2021 (natural born headbanger):
We will never forget her, she is a great bass player, she wrote several of the songs for the band’s albums 1-3

They are listened not only by metalheads. Ladies came out of their metal genre and have wider spectrum of fans.
They play Eclectic Metal. It means they blend as the first band in history all kind of metal mainly power and thrash with NWOBHM,
heavy metal, symphonic metal, speed metal,hair metal, hard rock, rock, rock'n'roll, jazz, progressive pieces, funk and even punk. They mix all with classical music using operatic, R&B, soul and gospel skills of vocalist and grand piano and Spanish guitar skills playing. Sometimes they use typical Japanese melodic lines which are included in ENKAs_ melancholy ballads singing by Japanese women. Only their can do it. Obviously they draw a lot from British, German and American metal. All this makes their style unique.

If you like the old school sound of 80s and early 90s metal, AND/OR if elite musicianship is something you appreciate, then LOVEBITES could easily become your all time favourite band. In terms of the collective talent in the band, they are probably the best metal band to come on the scene in the last 20 years. The only two bands (that I know of) that are on par with them musically are Dream Theater and Symphony-X. As a Brit, you'll appreciate their biggest influences are probably Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, but you'll also hear hints of Metallica, Megadeth, Helloween, Motörhead, Slayer, Anthrax, Testament etc etc.
The bassist Fami is their brand new bassist since 2022 that was 5 months after she joined the band and the studio was dropped before the album which was only 4 months after Fami joined granted both are from the album but that live was from Knocking at Heavens Gate which also had them performing older songs from with founder Miho so Fami had to not only add her bass parts to the album but also learn some of their older songs for the concerts like Hammer of Wrath, Liar. I was in the Paris concert of LOVEBITES on the 25 th of june. I was front row. The singer Asami give me a check. It was a small venue in the bassement of Pub. no air conditionned. (500 people). The ladies make a incredible show. LOVEBITES was on fire. The Guitarist with Dark hair Miyako was caufing and tired. That's situation didn't stop her. Thoses ladies give me some stars in my eyes. 🥰🇯🇵🇨🇵. You mist them on the second concert in London on the 1st of july.
The European tour is over , they're talking holiday in August the continue the World tour by Korea, Japan and in mid september in USA. ( 🇯🇵& 🇺🇸 are sold out)

Lovebites are a Japanese metal band, formed in 2016 by Miho, Bass, and Haruna, Drums, who are former members of Destrose, a band that broke up in 2015. They take much of their influence from the 1970's and 80's British and European bands such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Metallica. Miho left the band in 2021 for personal reasons.
The current members are,
Asami, Vocals and Piano. She trained in Ballet Dancing and before Lovebites was a R&B singer. She writes many of the lyrics and sings in English, not easy for a native Japanese speaker.
Midori, Guitar. The blond 'Amazon Warrior' who is also a body builder.
Miyako, Guitar, Piano and Keyboards. the 'serious' one with long black hair. She is a classically trained pianist who writes much of the music, often incorporating classical themes into her compositions..
Both Guitarists play lead, swapping lead and rhythm as required. They play amazingly good harmonised dual solos.
Fami, Bass. The 'new girl', recruited as replacement for Miho in late 2022 when she was 20 years old and still at university, playing her first live show with the band in March 2023. She has her own YT channel that has nearly 700,000 subs. Check out her 'Alien Alien' Slap Bass cover from when she was about 16.
Haruna, Drums. The 'Little BIG Engine'. a tiny lady, 1.45 meters tall, who is the power house that drives the band. I saw Lovebites live in London recently, and watched Haruna in awe. She plays fast and precisely throughout concerts that can be up to near 2 hours long.

Truly amazing group of musicians, male of female, Miyako, the guitarist with the black hair is an unbelievable pianist in her own right never Mind she plays guitar like a demon, she started piano at the age of 3, from memory, the drummer has been belting on the skins from an early age, Midori, the blonde guitarist started playing guitar at 21, the singer Asami was an R+B singer and trained as a ballerina, and to top it off the bassist, Fami is 21 and new to the group.
I think it is refreshing to see talent this good playing music of this genre without the need to be covered in tattoos and trying to look the part, they don’t walk the walk but my god they talk the talk.

The girls made their major label debut in 2017 (March 24) with "THE LOVEBITES EP".
On 11 June 2018, LOVEBITES won '🏆BEST NEW BAND' at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods 2018 awards organised by the British metal magazine METAL HAMMER.
On 4 August, LOVEBITES performed on the W.E.T stage at WACKEN OPEN AIR 2018, one of the world's largest annual metal festivals in Germany, with the 10,000 capacity venue almost full.

On August 20,2018, LOVEBITES announced that it has partnered with X-ray Touring, one of the largest players in the UK booking agent industry.

LOVEBITES performed as a support band for "Arch Enemy's China tour at the Shanghai show on March 23 and the Beijing show on March 24, 2019".

All I can say is: welcome to the Wolfpack !
You picked my all-time favorite song by my all-time favroite band to be introduced to Lovebites. And, you did a studio/live double-shot. Kudos to you!! You earned your 777th subscriber 😄. I won't read through the 50 comments before me, but I assume the Wolfpack has provided you a lot of information about the band, and many recommendations for what songs to react to next.
A lot of the Wolfpack are in the vicinity of my age, 64. The obvious reason is Lovebites takes their inspirations from the late 70's to early 90's era of metal, tosses in power/speed/thrash/heavy metal, and blends in altogether to make Lovebites metal. They have brought back all the metal I/we from our younger days. "The Immigrant Song" by Led Zeppelin in 1971, when I was 11, started my metal journey. Power Metal has never been near the top of my favorite metal genres, Thrash and Speed have. I do like songs from all genres of metal, because I love metal. I don't consider Lovebites traditional Power Metal. They have modernized it, it's not over the top theatrical, and it pounds you into submission.
The musicianship in this band is elite across the board. In my opinion, Miyako & Midori are the greatest dual lead guitarists ever (I should say my favorite so as not to sound like I have all the answers 😁). They play contrasting styles in perfect synchronization, playing complimentary guitar at high levels. And with all that speed, they write and play complex compositions, nothing simple at all, with many intricate layers. Haruna is one of my four all-time favorite drummers. She uses her entire kit efficiently, and again with that incredible speed. Her most special quality to me is her use of her cymbals/bell/china. The song may be at the same constant speed, but she doesn't play on a straight line. Her off beats, fills, and all of the cymbal/bell/china work combines to perfection. Asami's vocals are powerful and forward, and she has a great range. When she hits her high notes it gives me the chills. When she sustains them, even better. Fami replaced the co-founder Miho on bass while the band was on hiatus. Fami's bass lines in this song are sick. The guitar solo run is another all-time favorite, large in part due to Fami being a 3rd wheel, something rare with guitar solos, especially dual lead ones. Miyako is yet another all-time favorite, as she replaced Keith Emerson as my favorite musician who has held that spot since 1973 when I first heard them. Amazing keyboardist, and then comes Miyako, stunning on guitar, and a virtuoso on piano. I will add to your list one song. It's a cover of Judas Priest's "Pain Killer". It's audio only with a fan video (over 100k views). It pains me to see people react to "Pain Killer" without knowledge of the original, because the whole idea of a cover is to compare it to the original. It's my favorite Judas Priest song, so you know I'm ecstatic Lovebites covered it. Just seen them 3 weeks ago, when they were on EU and UK tour! This was in Japan last year. They are phenomenal!

They had 6 concerts in 5 countries and 4 festivals in 3 countries. That's 10 performances in 7 countries over a span of 3 weeks/21 days (Fri to Thu). One of four legs of the "world tour" (EU+UK/KO/JP/US). Yes, no South America, Africa, or Australia! Doesn't matter though!

Perhaps new cities/countries will be added to these performances. For example, on July 6, 2024 it was announced that a concert in Seoul (Korea) was being added to the Tour schedule.
If you, as an artist, will tour around some country, this does not mean that you will perform in EVERY CITY of this country?! For example, IRON MAIDEN is making a Tour of Japan, which consists of 5 concerts, which will be held in 4 cities (2 concerts in one city). Although in Japan there are 12 cities with a population of more than 1 million people.
You've discovered the Metal Queens 👑. Iron Maiden for 40 years was my favorite band untill I discovered Lovebites 2-1/2 years ago. They got their name fom a Halestorm song, Love Bites (And So Do I). Miyako, the dark haired guitarist plays concert level piano, guitar, bass, and drums but in Lovebites, the piano and guitar.
Nice you played the music video and than the Live performance. A couple others that have both great music videos and live performances are Shadowmaker, Winds of Transylvania and Rising.
If your bag is old school Heavy Melodic Metal with an Emphasis on Musicianship, Uptempo Speed and Epic songwriting then Lovebites is probably gonna entice you quite hard. The Contrast of their Classy, Classic Ball Room Belle Appearance combined with the absolute fire shred and awe they lay down is simply Incredible. Ballads,Bangers and Beyond my friend.

As with the vast majority of Japanese bands ( as you've discovered ) Lovebites are even better Live than in the studio .
Couple of interesting facts - Haruna ( the drummer that so impressed you is only 4'10" tall and the two guitarists Miyako ( long dark hair ) and Midori ( braids ) both didn't START playing guitar until they were around 19 years old . Miyako ( the musical genius who composes the vast majority of the bands music ) taught HERSELF to play guitar and is also a classically trained concert pianist - and no - there is no end to their talents !

By chance, I discovered this band in 2018 (two years too late) and ever since that glorious "Road-to-Damascus experience" my Metal world has never been the same again, i.e., it has never been better. Lovebites are the most complete and most reliable band in the Metal field far and wide: stupendous songbook, awesome stage appearance, brilliant musicianship, strong, graceful and charismatic personalites: these ladies have it all, bring it all - a UNIQUE band! Sounds a bit silly perhaps, but I'm proud to be a member of the so-called Wolfpack.

My favorite band, hands down. Haruna is my favorite drummer. M&M (Midori and Miyako) are among the best guitar duos ever. Asami, what a powerful voice she has and Fami, among the best bass players out there today. Ya, you could say I love them!

Just like Kevin, I have been listening to hard rock and metal for 5 decades. I discovered Iron Maiden in 1982 when I was in college and they remain my favorite metal band. I would put very few bands up their with Maiden and Lovebites is one of the few. In two months I will be watching Lovebites in their US debut at ProgPower in Atlanta. As one of the headliners, they get a full 90 minute set. I have no doubt that Judgement Day will be on the setlist. In late August, Lovebites will be releasing a new 5 track EP so I am hoping that I get to experience the live debut of one or two songs. To make my year even better, I am seeing Iron Maiden in November.

I reckon doing the MV followed by a live version of songs where available is a great idea, it's often how I engage with new songs I enjoy just to see, yeah, are they good live - sometimes they're even better!

Midori and Miyako- one of the most powerful guitar duos in modern metal. I know what I am talking about,I saw this band live in 2018 and was STUNNED.
Saw them in Milan this June in a small venue. They really are my favourite band. Miyako even gave two picks to my daughters 🎸, truly inspirational for them.

Glad you appreciate Asami's vocals, so many so called metalheads seem to think her vocals don't fit, yeah right never heard Gillen in his prime or Bruce Dickinson or Dio yeah clueless. Their live performances are great often different from the studio track but don't dismiss the PV their a great watch too. Very versatile band too as you go through their catalogue some real 💎 tracks.

Welcome to Lovebites! My favorite band. Best metal band in the world imho. They're absolutely amazing, and arguably even better live. Asami is an amazing singer, with a stunning voice. Midori and Miyako on guitars are among the greatest duos of all time. Haruna on drums and Fami on bass are both world class. Haruna is unbelievable. Fami is their new bassist, replacing band co-founder Miho after she left in 2022. Miho was amazing, but Fami is phenomenal as well. I highly recommend checking out some more from them.
I subscribed, so I don't miss any of your reactions to them. They have a great many live videos out there from various shows, but not all of them are on their official channel. There's also a lot of fan cams from their current tour. There's also a selection of MVs and some streams from during Covid. They have an amazing range of songs, but I suppose the obvious next one to suggest is Holy War, live from 2020, which is how most people discover them.
