Watching these releases and filming myself has helped me keep my hand inside and under the ball on release. I have increased my Rev rate substantially in such a short amount of time.
thanks for this beautiful video, for some reason I am just now seeing a visual of what my brain has been needing to see for over 50 years, it's been so long I don't even remember the first time i went bowling in the 60's, both my parents were bowlers and i watched them and listened to them. my passion has never waned but i have never had proper instruction and i feel this has been the reason i never quite got to where i wanted to be. for a brief time i got on a small run where enough of the stars aligned and had success with consistency and was able to carry my own weight in a league winning team. all this with never really understanding the mechanics of the release or how to repeat what works. words cannot express how watching these images has finally clicked. unless i screw it up i plan to save this forever until i die!
favorite bowler I have to say Norm Duke, fellow Texan, similar body type to me, learned a lot just watching him, he seems to be very well liked and not cocky like so many over the last 20 years, my idea of a good pro
listen PLEASE I'm dead serious for someone who is trying to learn to throw a hook with higher rev rate these videos are the freakin best things on the internet! I'm soooo pissed after 40 years of bowling with a 210 avg i found your slow mo videos and cried. i could see how its done i tried it at 65 years old and weak as sh.. i have a better rev rate and im destroying the pins 😥😥whhhhhy now that im old and weak whhhhyyy!
Have been trying to teach my son how to turn the ball. Norm Duke video was perfect, you can see his thumb come out and his fingers pull through the ball and turn it. Great angle.
Love Darren Tang’s game. His steps and backswing kinda remind me of PDW. I’ve been trying for years to develop those types of releases but I keep letting my hand around the ball too much and not under the ball enough.
They always say that when you release, your hand should be under the ball. But none of those releases are under the ball except for the two handers. Maybe that’s why I’m having such a hard time learning. I’m over emphasizing, literally trying to get my hand under the ball at the release.
The camera angle, being higher than the bowlers' hands, makes it look like they are under the ball, but they really aren't at the point where their thumb comes out of the ball. If the camera was about six inches off the floor you would see that they are behind the ball, or slightly on top of it, at the release point. To let go of the ball you have to uncup your wrist or you're really gonna loft the ball way down the lane. Don't worry about keeping your hand under the ball through the release. None of these one-handlers do it, and you don't need to do it either. Don't be fooled by the camera angle. A side view, with the camera just off the floor, would give a much clearer picture of what's going on here.
Agreed. And if you watch very closely the thumb is pointing at about 10-11 o'clock and the fingers are in the area of 4-5 o'clock when the thumb leaves the ball. Which is just about the way bowlers have been coming out of the ball ever since the invention of fingerholes. Today's Great players tend to do what great players have always done. It just looks different because today's bowlers tend to load up the wrist more than 30-40 years ago.
I know that this reply is really late, but when they say stay under the ball, they mean keep your middle and ring finger underneath the Equator the ball.
Hi. I hope you will also have a slow mo video of a plastic ball for pin No. 10. I wana see how they control the spin. This has been my problem for years now :(
Meaning your plastic ball hooks too much when you go for the 10? If you have already made sure the surface is polished well, and cleaned regularly, then the trick is to just flatten out your wrist (don't cup the ball). This places your fingers in a weaker position at the point of release, which will greatly decrease revs. Your plastic ball shouldn't be hooking anyway though - this is how you pick up spares with a reactive or urethane to prevent overreaction.
I'd really like to develop a higher backswing similar to Darren Tang or EJ Tackett but my accuracy goes out the window as soon as I try to bring my backswing higher up than my natural backswing.
@@djwhiz03 You don't need a high backswing to generate power. Ball speed comes from fast feet and getting to the line quicker, not muscling the ball through a long backswing.
Leave a comment with your favorite bowler's name to enter a drawing for a bowling ball. Details coming up in the next video!!! P.S. Like the video!!!... please? 😁😁😁 You da best, thank you!
Hoping to utilize this to help me this evening for league night. Been trying to perfect my release where for so long I was a 2 finger bowler but with time that takes its toll on my wrists so I've changed from that to actually utilizing the thumb hole and it's really different for me. Trying to get back to that 220 to 240 average that I once was
I would like to see this with a camera angle from up above at about 10-11 O'clock, and slightly behind the ball. So much is made about the thumb coming out first so it would be nice to see it in slow motion.
Just simply the best video I've ever watched! With the slo-motion you can see the proper release. I loved how the ball hooked with very little effort just by using the proper release. I was extremely impressed watching their slide foot & proper release. I learned a lot about the release & It's effects on the spin of the ball Once again, a very good video that I'll play in my mind when I bowl again.
For some reason after bowling 3 games my ring finger on my bowling had swells and becomes very painful. Had a pinky finger hole added on advice but still have same problem. What am I doing wrong??? How do i fix it?? Winter league 30 weeks long!!! My favorite bowler ever was Walter Ray Williams Jr.!
@@AthleticBowling THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I was about to just quit bowling as pain is so bad. I have been using a ball made for someone else so I know it may be to long. Thanks again.
@@theskeeterbass Turns out it WAS my layout. It was too long. I bowl fingertip. Shop drilled a new ball with span not as long and so my ring finger would go slightly deeper. It took a while to heal but it was a fix.
@@drh488 Glad to hear it. If the problem ever comes back, you can also try just a little reverse pitch on that finger for a quicker, cleaner release. Don't bother if all is good now though.
I wish I could bend the lane like that, but being a lefty most of the time I don't need to. That's the advantage and disadvantage of being a lefty. Your swing is the product of your environment.

Finally a video that clearly shows the fingers leaving the ball.
This is what I need to perfect.
This is the video I've been looking for.
