Join me in this heart-to-heart conversation with my good friend Brian, who not only runs sound for one of the hottest metal bands on tour but also shares a significant chapter of my life. I love your in-depth interviews. Clear and concise for those of us just getting into audio.
Props on your sobriety!!! I have 14 years under my belt. The touring life definitely brings out the worst in some people, myself included.
Man I appreciate that. Congratulations to you on 14 years! In just two behind you.
I got to be on a super short run mixing a band supporting Pop Evil - which is where I got to meet Brian back in 2020 RIGHT before everything shut down.
Such a gem of a human!
Love these interviews.
🙏
Best channel on youtube! Thanks for everything you do!
Thank you so much for the kind words! 🙏
I don't get the stereo vocal double patch thing in my head. I double patch my vocal to the desk and pan it hard L / R but if I use a third channel of the same vocal panned C and reverse polarity it cancels 100% with the hard panned so why should it sound different / better .. I don't get it
Nick.. thank you for sharing your journey at the beginning of this … 🔥
🙏
Brian! lol used to play shows with Brian years ago and kick it when he was drum tech for pop evil. He’s a good dude and very talented.
Omg that venue is amazing!
I like this guy. I do wonder about how he mixes though. He mixes like if he were mixing in a recording studio. Placing sounds in a stereo mix works for his FOH position but would it work for a fan who is on the rail stage left or right? Is the engineer mixing for him or for the fan?
Depends on how big the venue is… with an arena you won’t mix them as widely.
Great video. As a stagehand I enjoy your videos. I’ve worked for most of these bands
That „trigger gate“ trick is genius 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Brian is truly a great guy and a great engineer..
Brian’s the man and I heard him mix on a crap PA with an x32 and waves and it was still great
Love your videos Nick! I'm a free Lance tech here in Ontario Canada and would love to pick your brain about how to meet more people in the industry and make a career out of this!
I posted an ITM concert on my channel from 2019... I'm assuming that this was the guy running the sound at that show. It sounded great, regardless. If he happens to see your video, and this comment, maybe he'd be interested to hear how it came across via phone and RUclips. It was recorded from behind the FOH booth. I'll have to watch again to see if I recognize him...
And don't forget if you buy the CD it doesn't suddenly disappear from the streaming service when there's a contractual debate.
So sick. Love they are running pro tools. Cheers!
Nice interview. Thank you. Please, what kind of SW is used for playback? CO2?
I have so many questions about this 'stereo vocal' is there unique processing on the Left versus Right sides for this vocal input?
25:02 Sweet!
How about later moments?
What venue was this at? Looks a lot like the Bomb Factory in Dallas.
