I keep my A2 loaded with a Nursa and a Nova for when I play with friends. The Nova is an surprising about of fun. Hoping this new event is a sign for more intense ground combat.
I'm impressed you resisted the urge to make half the review just the clip of the dev saying "TONK" spliced in every time you said tank. I'm unsure I'd be strong enough to resist it. But the A-Team clip is golden.
When I pledge for ships, I usually don't consider practical value much and just go for how much I like it. The overall idea, the activity I can do with it, its looks, interior, etc. The tonk is absolutely something I'm looking to pledge for eventually. Might change my mind if another tank that I like more come along, but I just like the idea of the mega-tank (by morern standards) that you can WALK inside. The only thing I wish was different is for the gunner to actually go into the turret rather than using a remote turret.
I would love for a exploration/RV version of the NOVA TANK. It's interior would be similar to the USRA Rover with a bunk bed, Shoilet, food dispenser, Air Lock, and a raised super structure with an observation dome on the top.
Honestly, I see the limit of ships that can transport this monster as a plus. It _should_ be a little rare to see on the battle field. To put it in perspective, how many planes can carry an M1. BTW, looks like they modified the claim time on the Zeus. When I claimed it this morning, it was only a little over 10 minutes.
Large scale ground warfare will not be a thing till they manufacture a reason for ground warfare. Since missiles are iffy, the best alternative is the creation of a fixed ground shielding system that prevents aerial assaults from range. This would force ships in close and anti-air has a fighting chance.
One they fix the Tank Drift I think these will really shine. I tired taking the gun off the storm since its DPS is higher than the ship weapon but I could not attached it.
I think I prefer the Storm more, but it's a draw (at the moment) as the storm was meant to fit in a Valkyrie drop ship (but no the storm had to grow to fit components).
I know the Storm video is coming up soon, probably already done, but I gotta defend my boy. It may just be a small S3 repeating cannon, but dont under estimate my boy, that thing is packing 300 dps less than a Mk1 Super Hornet, and I've personally used it to down player Cutty Blacks. And those 80 S1/S2 Missiles? Ive taken MRT's with it.
Thanks I never new anything about tanks (or large ground vehicles). It seems very interesting but I see more use for it when they put in no fly zones. I see no reason to buy it with real money, as you can also get a Cutlass Black for about the same amount.
I know it's not directly related but even thought CIG showed a 600i holding a tonk in the cargo bay, the current 600i design doesn't have the clearance to fit a tank underneath. Can cig raise the 600i landing gear? Maybe, but it would definitely look worse than the Idris chicken legs when it's landed, not to mention get raised up by a good 5 meters. To that end the main thing that the tonk needs to change is to take that targeting apparatus from under the gun and put it on the side. That alone could give it an additional 5 - 8 degrees of gun depression, which it sorely needs. If they made the nova smaller like most modern tanks then it would be a "crew position" swap button required to move around inside
I tried one of these I think 1 or 2 patches ago and... it just doesn't feel good. The controls are not great, especially the camera controls. It is a bit difficult to control, especially being precise with the tracks and the turret separately. And it just doesn't feel heavy when driving around... feels more like an inflatable tank that might tip over.
The Tonk looks cool... but I can only give it a 1/10. DO NOT BUY. I only drive it in AC and in every patch that I've used it in recently, you can't drive it. It can only drive across flat ground. Which doesn't exist in AC. If there's an incline of 10 degrees or more, you can only drive down. I could get out and walk faster than the Nova. Any tank that is defeated by an incline of less than 60 degrees is an ABSOLUTE FAILURE. 20th Century tanks can drive up a 60 degree incline, and a 30th Century Tonk is defeated by... the LOADING RAMP of the Hurcules.
These tanks are so much fun.
Hoping to use them more frequently than the odd jumptown event someday.

Fun tonk. Tried it few times in arena commander. But yea we need more ships that can carry these. Maybe something like LAAT/c from star wars

This is probably the only vehicle I reserve for in game purchase, no real use unless mounting two on the deck of the 890
As with most ground vehicles, not worth pledging, earn in game only. It'll be cool to load one in the 600i after rework though.
I wish we had more ground fight mission, to make those military vehicle usefull (outside off community event)

I played one in arena commander and did not like the controls/how they drove. Still... I liked the gameplay and I want one.
Still not sure how I feel about ground vehicles. Hopefully they bring gameplay exclusive to them. I’d love to use tanks to seize a distorted centre!
