I just want to thank everyone for taking the time to watch this, share your kind words and experiences you had with Cyberpunk. I really jumped into the deep end putting this together. I made it first for me though. With little following I could only do that. If this video got no traction I would’ve been fine with that cause I loved making it. But if this video meant a lot to even just one person then it would’ve been worth it even more. It means so much to me that so many of you enjoyed and found meaning in what I had to say. I have made an effort to read every comment I’ve received. Even if I haven’t responded to you or left a like please know I have read your comments and appreciate what you all have to say. I also thank those who subbed to my channel but I want to be honest. I cant promise I’ll keep up any sort of regular uploads. Im just at a place in life where I don’t have the time but if more ideas come to mind making this gave me the confidence that I can do this at a level of quality I desire. One last time, thank you all so much for the support and keep on moving forward chooms.

This game has meant a lot to me. It got me through some tough times from 2020 to 2022 and made me really think about my beliefs and what it means to have a human soul. One of the biggest eye-openers for me was seeing Songbird's story. The way she was used because of her job made me realize that I shouldn’t put money above my sanity, something my long hours at my old job had drained from me. Honestly, no other game has had such a deep impact on my life like this one. I was with this game day 1 and however broken it was, I just could not get enough of it and still can't. The cyberpunk universe just lives in my head rent-free.

I did something really stupid a few months ago, won't get into it, but it cost me my job and my relationship with my brother; I was in this weird place where I was just going through the motions because it's what was demanded of me. I would then proceed to crash and burn in spectacular fashion. After this debacle, I was lying in bed, barely living, and decided to hop onto my console and see if there was something that would distract me from my latest bout of haphazard job applications.
    Enter Cyberpunk 2077.
I would be absolutely consumed by it, the world a perfect soundscape for me to leave on in the background as I did my college work (something else I admittedly stopped trying to be good at), and I would play it during every free hour over a month-long period (I would even go so far as to fast-forward time so it was always night, giving me a surprisingly effective time management framework for studying). If I wasn't eating, sleeping, or sloppily doing coursework? I was exploring Night City. It was a great distraction, but the self-destructive thoughts would largely remain, threatening to fling me from the small island of calm I had found in a tumultuous sea.
"You're never going to amount to shit, quit trying."
"End things, it's the only grace you'll ever give to those you failed."
"They all hate you, you know that, right?"
    "Such a waste, such a fuck-up."
Honestly, I didn't know what I would do when I finished the game. It was such a force of nature in my life, the only thing keeping me motivated to wake up, and I had all but quit trying to find a new job. I think giving up on my job search was the moment I really internalized the runaway critic in my mind, silently choosing to give up; I may not have realized it at the time, but it was the first sign that I had made the choice to put an end to things.
After this point, it began to cascade. I would start counting down the days, start wondering about the best ways to go about it, and start actively monitoring my family's sleep schedules and work schedules so I could do it while they were away or asleep. I remember one of my thoughts really clearly, despite that entire period of time being a haze:
"All I need to do is finish this game, I can focus on *the plan* later."
Then the final day came, the map was cleared, and I was readying myself for the endings.... and I didn't know that Cyberpunk had a suicide ending at the time. I looked over all the options, gave into my internalized despair, and picked the one I agreed with the most:
"Could just put all this to rest."
The voicemails were each a mirror, their edges jagged and sharp. I'd sit there for awhile, then move onto one of the other endings, but their words would still ring in my ears. Now that I'm in a better mentalspace, I can safely say that was the moment I began to forgive myself; I was still a depressed mess, still needed a lot of therapy, still needed people that cared about me, but it was enough to save me from doing something irreversible. As powerful as that moment is, it doesn't compare to my favorite endings, and the endings I would choose a million times: The Sun and Temperance (After Don't Fear the Reaper, so no one dies). There are two lines that encapusate both endings perfectly (respectively):
"So that's it, a little guilt creeps in and you give up?" and "Goodbye, V. Never stop fighting."
Cyberpunk is a really powerful piece of art because it slowly broke me down, made me uncomfortable, forced me to face the darkest parts of myself, and eventually made me change the narrative I (and my family/friends) had about myself (sounds a lot like Johnny's experience, no?). I wasn't some stupid loser, I was someone with *a will...* all I had to do was find *a way* to make my life tolerable. I've recently applied for apprenticeships, finished my coursework, and plan to pursue higher education. And I owe it all to this game, with all its flaws and silly trivialities.
All my family saw was a fuck-up. Cyberpunk saw a lost, wayward soul clinging to life and hoisted me up from the edge.
Talk to your family members, talk to your friends, and don't assume they're being bad at life on purpose. Everyone struggles, but we've cultivated a world where no one is allowed to show it. Be kind, be gentle, and never stop fighting for yourself (or those you love).

I heavily sympathize with those who struggle with suicidal ideation. It’s not just a deep desire to escape relentless pain; it’s that your mind convinces you that your absence will benefit those you love even if they don’t yet know it.
Your mind tells you that you are a burden.
    That you are unworthy.
    That you are a waste.
    That you drag others down.
That others are lying about how much they care for and value you.
But the only one actually lying…is your mind. Because you _are_ loved, and you _are_ worthy.
Don’t give up and don’t give in. You can and will persevere.

I wouldn't say Cyberpunk 2077 saved my life, but rather myself. Who I am truly, from the start. It woke me up from the fake person the system and the society forced onto me, that I truly believed was my true self. This game reconnected me with the human I was before all the traumas, the abuses, the gaslight. The process was painful as HELL, had to seek help, but today I am whole. Still recovering, will always be to be honest, but that's okay. Because it's been 3 years since I finally love myself.
This game does miracles for sure, and I'm so so glad the devs didn't give up.
Never stop fighting, and fuck the system.

On my journey to see all the endings in Cyberounk, I inevitably did the Suicide ending and that honestly fucked me up as someone who was suicidal years ago due to some untreated psychosis appearing and watchung my mom get cancer again and die coming together. I almost sat down and went through with it due to how horiffic daily life even was. I was 16 at the time. Going places was a nightmare and living was hellish.
Now,10 years after that anchoring played through Cyberpunk earlier this year as well as being on medication for a decade, just seeing the reactions of the characters I grew to genuinely love in 2077, I've decided that even if things get as bad as they were then, I could NEVER put people who love me through that pain and the fact that the characters in a game helped me get there is something I will never forget.
On a less depressing note, I just love this game. It's phenomenal and it's the only game that I genuinely feel the good chemicals filling my brain when I boot up the game.

I played from launch and I started on a ps4… it was horrible they bugs were insane. But I couldn’t put it down. Every time the game crashes I’d turn the console back on. I have almost 1000 hours in game now. It’s one of the most impactful games I have ever played. I fell in love with it. It changed me. I still play it as soon as I finish any other game I decide to play. It doesn’t matter how many play throughs. It still makes me feel every emotion my first play through did. I still have bad days. I still wish I didn’t have to be here sometimes. But I’m happy I’m alive to experience such a piece of artwork. As lame as it sounds it shaped me into a better person. I’ve never been so immersed in a story or game play. I’ve never been so attached to fictional characters. This game may not be for everyone. But for those of us who got sucked in. It feels like the game was created just for us.

I had to take a break from the game just to process my emotions.
Maybe there will never be a Panam Palmer in my life, someone who will come get me no matter what happens and who'll scream their head off at me for not asking for their help when I need it, but if so - I should do my best to be the Panam Palmer in someone else's life.

This game is my biggest hyperfixation, I’ll literally never not feel connected to it emotionally

I think the entire cyberpunk universe encapsulates a theme that is pervasive in our lives. And the game brings it life flawlessly and fleshes out the characters into something real

Well said. I don't remember the last time when I would 100% agree with everything being said about a topic that close to my heart. Cyberpunk 2077 can be a life-changing experience to those that are open-minded and willing to put some thoughts into it. And the next time I hear something about games being for kids and / or that they are a bad medium for mature, thought-provoking storytelling, I will laugh in their faces and point them to this masterful analysis.

I never understand why people are incapable of differentiating between a bad and broken game. Cyberpunk has always been fantastic, but it was broken at launch. That doesn't make it a bad game. And this is coming from someone who played it to completion on a base PS4 at the time. Not making excuses for the shape it launched in, that was disastrous

The Temperance ending takes on a whole different meaning if you go for Aldecaldos or Path of Glory initially but then choose to give V's body to Johnny anyway. It's V choosing the least evil and giving Johnny a second chance. And what steps out into the world is, in a sense, Johnny, but is also some other entire human entity born anew with a blank slate, with both the experiences of Johnny and V intertwined. V accepting a kind of existential death, so that the least evil is done to the people around them, in contrast with the examples set by So-Mi, Reed and Johnny. Relinquishing all hope of glory, power or easy fixes for the betterment of others. Hence, "Temperance." Choosing not to indulge in the parasitism of Night City, though you easily could.

Beautiful Video, and even more beautiful comment. Totally agree with you, there's a reason why it called "Temperance", it's A Sacrifice V made so a friend can live, i don't understand why would someone want to do that to V and even more to Johnny - So 'stead of a selfish Cowardly Act, i prefer a generous, selfless altruistic choice to give "Johnny" another chance, new beginning with a blank slate.

    • @cyntdestroyer69xd

I also think that Temperance is speaking more about Johnny - he stopped trying to uphold by his own principles, because they hurt everyone whom.lovef him the most - same thing he said about Reed, if you choose to help Reed in DLC, and let So Mi pass away. He finally understood that, on his own, he WON'T CHANGE the world. It's such a powerful message in modern day in age - that you're NOT a hero, and you WON'T change a world on its own - BUT, it's OKAY. Sometimes, you gotta take a step back, start anew, and appreciate life foo. Seeing how Johnny went from hating Night City, to admitting to Steve on a car ride, that it's beautiful here, was heartwarming. Temperance is, in my opinion, a fitting name for both Johnny and V

not even ten seconds into the video but i wanted to say that is saved mine, too.
i went into the game in one of the worst states of my life, closeted, scared, and hopeless, but even in its poor state on launch, it gave me the courage to begin embracing my real self. it showed me that i can hope for a better future, that i can make a better life for myself even in all this despair, that no matter what, if i chose to let myself and those around me have hope and act on it, i could rip and tear myself just enough space to live and love.
ive been living as a woman for going on four years, and every time i play the game again i find more and more meaning; i think im on my tenth full clear and it’s no less interesting. anyway im gonna watch the video now :3

Night City was Houston for me.... I left everyone to prove to myself that family is where you are loved. I joined a touring country band and met so many people along the way... It made it easier for me to come back to Houston, to my "family"... and now I live here with a new perspective on life.

That section about goofy and happy moments is EXACTLY why I love this.story - for me, this story is about..The fact that sometimes, you gotta take a step back, not to be absorbed in tunnel vision of ideas and dreams, but enjoy what is really important - life. Take a step back, spend time with friends, enjoy Quiet Life, as Blaze of Glory leaves you with basically nothing. And in all of my 3 favourite endings (from 3rd to 1st, Tower, Nomad, Temperance) - you either have good people around you, or sacrifice yourself for them. I'm in awe at how much optimistic moments this game has, despite being so pessimistic at the same time - perfect definition of "bittersweet".
PS: 17:10 - love to do that mission before the end of my story campaign.

Started watching this video about halfway through my Cyberpunk play through. Then I put it on hold till I finished it. Did two endings, first, the one where she ends up with no chrome as a face in the crowd, and then the one with the Nomads and Panam.
Then I came back and finished watching this video. I feel like the endings I experienced were exactly what I needed out of this game. Two extremes. I felt satisfied with V going off to Arizona with Panam, and I kinda didn’t believe Alt that V would only have 6 months to live.
If there’s one thing we learn from this game, it’s not to trust most of the people in this game. So just like I didn’t trust Songbird, I also didn’t trust Alt. She has her own agenda to get as many people as she can in the Mikoshi with her.
I believe V ends up just fine in the Panam ending… alive and well for years to come.

I played the game at launch and damn despite it's issues back then I had never been pulled into a video game world as hard, for the few weeks I was playing the game I really felt like I was part of the story. It was very much what I needed back in 2020 with covid closing off half of the real world and I will forever cherish that. Shame so many people still refuse to give it a chance due to the awful lauch, but hey I managed to grab the collectors edition for less than half of the price thanks to that mess. 🙌

That v and Jackie trailer showed me everything I needed to know.

I don’t really know what you’re talking about. Update 1.5 came out long before Edgerunners, and that update was what put the game into a properly playable state. Any updates after that were actually pretty minor in terms of bug fixes.
I’m glad you got back into the game after the 2.0 update, but the game was absolutely in a playable state after Edgerunners released.

i got this when it came out, played it for 3 days straight. its the first game ive ever finished multiple times. i just hit 400 hours in it and. i don't think ive ever been so attached to a character as i am to V. dealing with chronic and mental illness makes the whole story hit really differently than anything else ive played. and night city is so alive, i spend so many hours in the game not even doing gigs, just walking around, exploring, listening to npc conversations. (also, female V is "canon" V to me. I've still never finished a male v playthrough. sorry male v).

Fantastic video essay, subbed! This video brought back so many feelings from when I last finished the game nearly a year ago now. I also share many of the existential thoughts you discussed that this game raised. Such a powerful piece of media.
Maybe it’s time for a fourth play through…

there is something uniquely nostalgic, cruel, exciting, alluring and riddled with oppurtunity in this futuristic city. It strips you of your humanity, and ultimately gives you no other choice but to go for the big leagues or die trying. It's an astonishing way to portray truly being "alive", while the world around you is so alien, and far removed from organic life as we all know it.

I felt the same way about this game. It made me think about the connections we make and the impact we have on other people. But more than that, it made me think about the impact I might have made on people, and reckon with the impact my death would have on the people I love. Made me think about my own self-worth from the outside in, and recognize that what truly matters are those connections. They're what has meaning, they're what's important, what to live for, and they're there even when it's too dark to see them.
Thank you for making this video, because I've never seen anyone discuss the game having this effect on them, and I think it's really important that you did. It's validating to me, and I'd hope it's impactful and eye opening to others.
For all the praise the game gets, nowhere near enough is said on the meaningfulness of the main story. In fact I often see people describe it as weak or even outright meaningless, of having no message or anything to say.
So, again, thank you SO much for this video.

This video really spoke to me and how this game and it's story impacted me.
I really got into this game at a time when after thinking I had it all figured out, a big plan for my life and then having the last 15 years of my life blow up in my face. It became a place of hope in the despair and helped me really look at things differently.
I would be lying if I said I have shit figured out but it gave me a dose of reality, hope, and the will to try again.

I finally watched Edgerunners several weeks ago and at the finish immediately purchased the game. I just finished PL last night and just WOW, Cyberpunk is now my main obsession.
Bladerunner has always been my favorite film, so I will end with:
“I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate.
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
    Time to die.”

This game changed me. I’ve never felt a way about a game that I feel about this one, it’s unique in so many ways- but, it really seems so real to me. It’s not perfect, but it _is_ perfection, if that makes sense.. this is all I think about day in, and day out. I have consumed so much content about it, and indulged in every form of the genre to continue my research to further immerse myself into the game.

Hope they consider doing more like phantom liberty, great video. When I think about all the games I've played and try to narrow it down to one that's 'saved my life', I end up coming to games that really just helped me pass time, but the one that gave me days/weeks of enjoyable content where I can relate to the characters (to an extent given the setting) was - Cyberpunk. Another that comes to mind is Red Dead Redemption, but I think for me it's the futuristic nostalgia that Cyberpunk gives. It's not like any other game.

I started playing this game in March of this year after my grandmother, my last living grandparent, passed away after a rapid decline in her health. I needed a distraction and I had heard the game was mostly good now. Steam says I now have over 560 hours worth of playtime. I still find myself getting lost in this game, exploring every square inch of the city I can. Still playing with various builds and playstyles. Having fun with the save-editor currently and just playing in God Mode now with every perk.

But gradually this game made me realize that its ok to be different, and by the ending I no longer wanted to give up. Im litterally playing No Man's Sky right now while listening to this video (just started playing a month ago). That opening was really funny to me. I was already jaded by Ubisoft, Activision, and EA by the time NMS was just releasing so I didn't expect much. As far as 2077 went, I was on the hype train at release and still enjoyed it. I was just lucky to not experience game breaking bugs.

35:16 So, maybe I just viewed the Temperance ending (secret) with giving Johnny the body a bit differently - My V understood she had six months, she got everything she wanted.. She was a legend. Helped as many people with what time she had (I did a lot of the side quests and tried to make what I thought were the best choices in the moment) and, on learning that no matter what, she only had /six months/ left, while a new, tempered Johnny can try again for as many years as he can live.. The choice was, for me, a no-brainer. It was the best choice for all involved. Sure, looking at what it did to Alt is.. What it is but man.. Johnny, at least in my ending was using the chance to do good in his ways. Helping the boy with his abusive father, nurtured his dream, etc was a good example of it. V is already a legend, stormed Arasaka 'solo', with Alt took Mikoshi down. They're already a legend.. And legends don't survive. I mean V, at least mine in this case, gave one last thing to the best outcome she could. And that's all right, bittersweet, but all right.

Although I haven't played it much after experiencing every ending, it lived further through the soundtrack, through the reviews, and videos like yours. I definitely will never regret getting this game. One of the things I love yet hate the most is how you can hope and hope that eventually V can find a way to co-exist with Johnny but its just right out of reach unable to ever happen. After having had my own life ripped from me, and having to start from scratch it really hits hard and after the pain being inspired to see what comes next.

This game almost had me taking my life. I saw the parallels with the world and our world. It made me feel so hopeless. I despaired. I was already in a pretty shitty place when I played, just coasting through life. So, when I played a game that showed me that the world IS shitty, I agreed wholeheartedly and thought there was no point and I might as well not live. I had recently started to philosophise more absurdist, so this was... a surprising and discontenting development.
Obviously, I didn't end up taking my life. This game gave me a small push to start considering it before pulling me back from the edge into a bear hug.
My first ending was the star ending, so I guess I felt like all you could do in the end was run away. I can't run away, so I thought the next best thing was to not exist. I then replayed the game. Read the shards. Looked up the lore of the world. I saw how hopeless it was and how everyone still fought to live. How V fought to live. How people tried to make a positive change. It fails, but you can still try... right? I think the next ending I did was the suicide ending. Had heard about it and thought I might as well give it a go (I also agreed that it was the best logically because less people suffer). I was so wrong. Everyone suffered from that. It was awful. I felt awful for even considering it. Next, was the tower ending. Fuckin sad. I hated how powerless I was. Sure I get to live but I'm so alone. It felt slightly hopeful but so lonely. Then I did... the devil ending, I think. Shortly followed by the sun ending. I've done temperance too, I can't remember when. Both the devil and the sun feel so lonely too. Temperance is hopeful for Johnny, but I feel sad for the people he leaves behind mourning V.
I guess all that comes to the conclusion that I liked the star ending the best. Which, funnily enough, was the one that I got when I felt the worst I'd felt in a long time, and it made me feel,, worse? but, with the perspectives of the other endings, I learnt that finding a place to belong is so much more important than glory or "healing" yourself. You need to look after the people around you and let them care for you. You need to stop trying to prevent death so you can actually live. It feels like I came a full circle. This game saved my life.

I appreciate you making this very vulnerable video essay. I’m with you in seeing Cyberpunk 2077 as more than entertainment; it’s an experience. I went on my own journey with this game. Anxiously anticipating its release since way back in 2013 with its iconic teaser trailer.
To be wowed by the 60 minute gameplay demo.
To Keanu Reeves reveal as Johnny Silverhand. In the best looking Computer Graphics Trailer that may have ever been made.
To my girlfriend getting very upset with me for IGNORING her while I was playing CP2077 back in December of 2020.
This game failed to live up to the hype for years but as the years passed. Improvements were made. Edgerunners was awesome and brought many of us back into the fold.
To Phantom Liberty knocking our socks off!
Cyberpunk 2077 went from being the second most anticipated video game of my life, right after Mass Effect 3. To being a big disappointment. To now becoming debatably my favorite video game of all time!
Surpassing the Mass Effect Trilogy & Skyrim!
And that’s because Cyberpunk 2077 is more than entertainment, it’s an experience.
Sitting down on a bar stool as Johnny Silverhand just watching my good buddy Kerry Eurdyne play my guitar 🎸 legitimately made me feel like I was a ghost 👻 being blessed to hangout with a deer friend one last time from behind the grave.
That’s an experience I never imagined having my life! It’s like method acting on a whole other level!

One of the top 5 gaming experiences of all time for me. I rarely BEAT a game but this one.... I have beaten 3 times and exhausted every side mission, NCPD Scanner encounter, all of it...... and you want more! You want to go hug Judy one more time. High five Pan-Am. Tell Johnny off then save each other. To see Jackie again and to hear his laugh and see that big puppy dog smile. To see the sweetheart Misty again. To fist bump Victor. The game is so well written. One of the side missions had me bawling... the one where you let the convict get crucified. I took that whole mission seriously and it hit me in the Christian gut hard. Some found it offensive but they missed the point. That scene actually made me stronger in my faith to Christ. And never have I been more satisfied with kill'n a villain than with Adam Smasher. Its almost time for another re-install and Photoreal graphic mods galore this time! I apologize to my 4090 video card in advance. Your abuse will be my joy.
