  • Welcome, welcome!
Get a realistic glimpse into a typical day in our secular homeschool life!
Thank you to my friend, Kaela at Ode to Abode, for this fun collaboration!
This is very much a typical day at home for us. It’s been a VERY busy season, but we were fortunate to have a couple of slow days this week. Join us as we learn using mostly literature-based, secular materials. You’ll also tag along as we follow the rest of our daily routine.
    Let’s go!
Check out all of my fabulous secular homeschool friends who shared a look at their days as well! Click the link at the end of this video (or the one below).

This was so good. I didn’t think your day seemed chaotic at all. Just a pretty regular homeschooling family. Thanks for sharing this.

I really loved this video. Your honesty is so refreshing and your life is so interesting! I love that you showed us a look into your Airbnb and chickens. I am excited for you that your husband is home (or almost home). I am sure everyone is excited. Thank you for showing us a day in your life! (Also it was very well filmed and edited)

I'm glad I wasn't the only one wimping out with the "freezing" weather 🤣 And we both filmed more videos during our DITL 😆

We have layers as well, but haven’t quite gotten to meat chickens yet. It’s next on my list!

I loved sharing your day! I am amazed at how much you covered in the day and so well (camera/editing)!!! Thank you for doing that! It was so heartwarming seeing you cuddle up on the coach together studying with each of your kids individually. I did not find the day chaotic, I found it relaxed, which I appreciate. It seems like a constant adjustment at our home, much tweeking, as we ALL learn more. :)

Thank you for this video! Previously you mentioned your Air BnB and I was really looking forward to seeing how you operate that etc. Damp sheets?! I am so going to try that! I love your reading chair/corner that is just precious (the baskets on the wall and the hanging pendant). Three months is a long time! The longest I've gone sans husband was three weeks-you are a dedicated mama. I also feel you so hard about living long distances away from ANYTHING....sometimes when the kids are grumpy I'll decide to go somewhere because I know they'll be contained to carseats for at least an hour! Haha...I usually get them ice-cream so they're cool with it!

It's pretty normal for nonschooled kids to run to their own schedule, most of my kids are/were night owls and anything schoolish isn't usually started until the afternoon.
When my daughter was younger she would go days, and even weeks not doing anything that resembled schoolwork then all of a sudden she would be like a uni student cramming till the wee hours of the morning for a few days or weeks - then back to no "bookwork" - it all evened itself out.
How do you like MCT now ? How long does it take your kids to do a lesson ? And what age or stage do you think it's best suited for.

Thanks for your comment! We are loving MCT. I’m actually editing a couple of videos on using it that should be up soon. We spend maybe 20-40 minutes on a lesson, depending on which kid it is and what’s involved. It’s marketed toward gifted kids, but it’s worked very well for both of my kids. My daughter is an advanced reader, but I wouldn’t say either of them is gifted in language arts exactly. Island level was just a bit young for my 5th grader, but I think it was spot on for my 3rd grader as long as we kept the pace easy and enjoyable. My 5th-gr is actually working through both Island and Town levels this school year, and I’m planning to use Voyage with her next year. I hope that helps. Keep an eye out for those MCT videos soon! 😉

It’s from IKEA! It’s called STOCKSUND 😁 The kids and I could all fit when I first got it. Now I kind of wish I had purchased the loveseat version haha
