I just picked up a TH Freestyle with your exact same sled/vtx/xm+ setup. For some reason, my rx wont talk to betaflight. Rx binds, the ports (uart # one set to serial rx) and configuration (serial rx/sbus) are correct. With tx on and battery plugged in, the rx binds but there is no response to stick movements. I tried putting "set serial_rx_inverted=on" into cli, but that made no difference. I've set up a few xm+ rx's before, and everything looks perfect. I'm stumped.
Hey man I just got the nano hawk x and need some help on what to get for the vtx because I lifted off a pad on the antenna when trying to solder on a full connector
Yes the pads needed to be bridged. I think I put that in the video. I didn't include bf setup because it's been covered by a bunch of other channels. Basically you just set serial RX on for uart1 and set sbus on the receiver type. As far as setting up smart audio it's just a matter of selecting it for the uart you hook it to. This doesn't work for the nano pro though. I hear it will work for the 32. Thanks for commenting and a sub is appreciated!!
@@Lcanino there is a special akk patch of betaflight that will supposedly make it work. I didn't really look into it much further than that as sa vtx control isn't that important to me on this quad. In order for the sa signal to get to the vtx the fc sa pads do need to be bridged. Doing so physically connects the pin on the vtx to the pin on the fc.
Thanks for sharing, just found your channel and really like your content. Im fairly new to the hobby and its cool to see what i can attempt in the future. Liked and subbed!
Just got the quad and im so unhappy with it. I don’t get why they wouldn’t just make it great out of the box... I am bound to a QX7 stock antenna in D8 and can’t get 10 ft away without rssi warnings. Ready to set it on fire nd go back to my 5in but it’s so big and loud for neighborhood flying. I should be able to fly in the lot beside my house with no upgrades, right? I can’t even fly it LOS from my porch to the sidewalk. Very jealous when I see people enjoying their THFS!!!!
You definitely should be able to go at least a couple hundred feet with no issues. Does the antenna look ok? You might want to contact emax and see what they can do. A sub is appreciated!
Do RC That’s what I did. I did a rebind on a new profile and also tried with my iRangeX module and had the same experience so I stopped flying it immediately and don’t want to even consider upgrading if it’s wonky. Hope to hear form them soon because I REALLY want to fly the dang thing!!!! It looks amazing all over RUclips!!!!! Just not in my case :-( I hope their support is helpful. Fingers crossed.
I hope so too. In my experience its been a bit hit or miss. Just be persistent if they try to give you the run-around. It's a great quad and well worth the trouble!
I am about to try this on Tiny Hawk 2 (regular) . Tinysled, XM+, and Pro32 nano all came in. My soldering skill is crappy. I ordered practice board before trying it. This is moreof practicing on a cheap drone first lol.. Then try upgrading Cinecan. Then move on to something better

I wanted to say that my issue regarding failsafe was related to my qx7 became unbound to the frsky rx and reverted back to the on board RX so I had no antenna. Super weird because I bound it and it flew ok the first run then something happened to the binding. I went through the bind process again, several power cycles and it is now bound to the XMplus again.
I think I followed the dictions fairly well but don't see any video signal. What would the steps be in debugging this? Perhaps there are some settings I need to change in Beta flight?
Thank you, it works great for me now, by any chance you have STL file for antennas both XM and VTX and also for XT30 all together? how are you holding all up
Hey sorry I don't really have any of this stuff anymore. I haven't been flying fpv for a while. Started getting headaches in the goggles unfortunately..
Hi, I have to Solder with my Shanking hand syndrome, that Sucks! I like your Clean work, is your Tiny Hawk 2 have the stock 25Mw Camera? If not what camera are you using?
Was there anything special you did in beta flight? I did a rx upgrade to my tinyhawk2 using the FrSky Archer m+ and I keep getting badrx error and drops from the sky. I am using telemetry and it shows 99 on my TX but osd shows low rssi. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Great video!!
Love your videos! I recently bought a tiny hawk freestyle and i keep getting RX Loss and the quad will fall out of the sky. I was wondering maybe you knew of a way to fix this. Will I need to upgrade mine like yours?
Thanks for the video, I have the same parts and are about to do this mod. How do you configure the VTX to 50mw if you cant set up smart audio? Mine came with a separate button but no instructions for soldering it. Came with no instructions at all. Thanks again
Great job! I believe there's a setting in beta flight where you can change the smart audio protocol in the CLI command then you should be able to get smart audio working I believe it's in the github manual for tuning 4.1.... I have it working on mine ;)
nice video , can you please give us the links of these TBS and XM+ receiver you took, I'm not sure i'm checking the good ones on TBS website. I might do the upgrade but i want to order the good references. ty
can you disable the internal VTX from the AIO FC? also, was it worth upgrading VTX board vs. just the Antenna? my TH 2 Freestyle rx died, rest ok, planning on upgrading Rx. thanks for the video.
VERY NICE, I'm trying to (build) mount a Runcam Nano 2, Diatone f411 nano FC, frsky xm+ and Runcam xt200u to a Diatone Cube 239 with great difficulty. I was wondering if you have any suggestions on this subject? I think I need to use a smaller vtx other than the tbs unify pro nano... awesome modification...cheers!
You definitely could. The pins are plenty long enough after cutting but desoldering is the safest way to go. I've done a decent amount of work with electronics so I felt confident about cutting them. Thanks for watching and a sub is appreciated!
The wires should really be soldered and heat shrunk. I supposed you could do something like twist them together but I really wouldn't advise it. Losing a quad because a camera wire came loose would be a bummer. It's a very easy job as the color of the wires match from the old camera to the new one.
Just learning the sport. Currently flying the TH2. Next up considering the 'freestyle'. How is it 'out-of-the-box'? Does it need extensive mods? thanks
It's a good quad out of the box. The camera isn't great and I upgraded mine pretty much right away. As long as you're flying close to you the vtx and rx that are built in are fine. There are plenty of people who fly the freestyle stock and love it. I will say that if you're used to the nano 2 in the th2 you will probably be disappointed by the stock cam in the freestyle.
@@DoRC You're right about the camera. I noticed right away that the TH2 camera was much better than the original TH. Also, the TH2 tune is so much better than the original TH. I was getting discouraged trying to get a 'feel' for flying FPV with the original TH...but the TH2 is much much better! Having said that, is replacing/ungrading the camera a big deal? Do you have any tutorials on the process? thanks.
I'm not sure. There is a lot less room on the tinyhawk s. Also the pins on the rxsr aren't going to align with the board like the xm+ ones do. Thanks for watching and a sub is appreciated!
I saw in another comment you know that you have to bridge the fc sa pads for beta flight smart audio to work. If you look at the pads on your sled you did NOT bridge them. Do you think you should do that and see if SA works? If you look on their website it shows the pads on the sled need to be bridged. Am I wrong? I’m about to install this but trying to do more research first.
Nice man. If there is anyway you can add it to the video it would help a lot of people. There are only 2 or 3 videos of this sled being used and none of them show the soldering like you. That’s a crucial piece missing and for me who is knew to fpv it would be helpful man. Not sure if you can add it to the video but maybe the notes underneath
ive done the sled mod along with the xm+ and it works great. Does this mod use the tx1, tx2, rx1,rx2 pads? Want to connect a small gps and wondering how it would work.

Does anyone know how to set up the xm+ with this specific drone? I've gotten mine soldered on and bound to my radio but can't get the flight controller to use it for the life of me.
I did do that. After doing more research I resoldered everything and used a command to set the rx to inverted in betaflight and now it's working. Not sure which one did it but one of them seemed to do the trick... Thanks for your help!
I did this mod except I used the 400 milliwatt vtx. All was ok until I went up to 400 milliwatts. I blew an esc on my board. I'm not sure that's what caused it but I'm afraid to push it now that I've got a new board. I've been keeping it at 200 milliwatts with no issue. Also anyone considering this should flash latest firmware on xm plus. My rssi just stays the same no matter what. I'm not going to remove it just to get rssi working.
I just ordered my stuff and started to get my packages, all same stuff except I got 400mw VTX. This was helpful. An you recommend a resource that explains what each connection is for, the basic so I understand the why behind the what I am doing.
If you look on tinysleds site there is a pinout for the sled. That will give you most of the info. After that it's just power and ground for the RX as well as the single sbus connection which sends data from the RX to the flight controller. A sub is appreciated!
Can anyone verify the VTX comments? I have TBS nano 400mw, am I safe to run it at 400? My next step down is 100mw. I bought it with xm plus to run my quad a long way. That would really stink if I couldn’t boost my me up to 400.....
So far I've heard several running 100mw and 200mw. One person said they briefly ran at 400mw with no I'll effect but no guarantees.... Thanks for watching and a sub is appreciated!
Nice work man! FYI, I ran my AXII to the same spot up front and reception was amazing, but busted my u.fl connector off in a hard crash last week. (I just soldered it back on directly and ran it out the back with some bent antenna tubing.) It looked like you put enough slack on the antenna cable, but I figured I would throw that out there for anyone else doing this- be careful! I'm going to be doing my brothers for him soon, so I'm really grateful you put this out! Doing it with no tutorial was really challenging to say the least. Jealous of them skills bro! I'll get there. 😏 Keep up the awesome my friend!!! Also, do you have your PIDs posted for this? I have been learning to tune on this thing and I'm close but still don't want it to turn into a dumpster fire. 😬
I'm actually just using andyrcs tune. There's always the risk of ripping the antenna out but hopefully this one is well enough secured. I'm glad it helps!

@@DoRC any links to those videos? btw your camera mount came in the mail today. awesome job man! they fit like a glove

Thanks for sharing, just found your channel and really like your content. Im fairly new to the hobby and its cool to see what i can attempt in the future. Liked and subbed!
Thanks! This hobby is a blast:)
Do RC aged. I see the potential. Thx man ... I’ll keep you posted.
Please do!
Ok new to the hobby just got this drone..... havnt done alot of soldering.... curious of what kind of soldering wire I should use

Oh and the cool kids call it a quad:)
@@DoRC appreciate the reply ordered the wire... I'll be building my first "quad" soon
Would you know what those pins you used for the receiver are called?
Just look up pin header strip on amazon. They're usually sold in three or four inch long strips that you can cut off what you need.
That's good news! Glad it was something simple:)
how did you figure out that you were boudn to the onboard rx, if i might ask and if you remember? having this same issue
@@NukularPower honestly cant remember how I figured it out. I think I get a cli command
I think I followed the dictions fairly well but don't see any video signal. What would the steps be in debugging this? Perhaps there are some settings I need to change in Beta flight?
FYI I am using the pro version, and when I connect to beta flight I don't even see the video tab?
FYI New Boards now have a Solder bridge to select 5v or Battery Voltage on top. You must bridge one for power to vtx.
Ah. Good catch. Sorry I didn't reply sooner. Life has been in the way:)
Thank you, it works great for me now, by any chance you have STL file for antennas both XM and VTX and also for XT30 all together? how are you holding all up

Hi, I have to Solder with my Shanking hand syndrome, that Sucks! I like your Clean work, is your Tiny Hawk 2 have the stock 25Mw Camera? If not what camera are you using?
I don't remember what camera I had as it's been a while and I switched to all digital.
Great video!!
interesting video,,, any links to the parts used?
Love your videos! I recently bought a tiny hawk freestyle and i keep getting RX Loss and the quad will fall out of the sky. I was wondering maybe you knew of a way to fix this. Will I need to upgrade mine like yours?
How far away are you from the quad when this happens and what transmitter are you using?
@@DoRC its completely random when it happens but usually about 60-80 feet away. Im using a FrSky Taranis x9 lite

will this sled work for the tinyhawk II race board?
Will this fit in the TH 2 race?
How did you get the audio?
Does that vtx have a mic?
Did you change your PIDS after you finished upgrading? If so, would you share with me?
Will this set up work with the crossfire nano se rx?
Thanks for the video, I have the same parts and are about to do this mod. How do you configure the VTX to 50mw if you cant set up smart audio? Mine came with a separate button but no instructions for soldering it. Came with no instructions at all. Thanks again
There is a place to solder the button on the sled.
I've done this build but I'm getting signal break up if I try and take off
Great job! I believe there's a setting in beta flight where you can change the smart audio protocol in the CLI command then you should be able to get smart audio working I believe it's in the github manual for tuning 4.1.... I have it working on mine ;)
Yeah? Do you have details by chance? It's be nice to get that working!
@@DoRC The TinySleds instructions say that if you want to use SmartAudio you have to jump the pads where it says "FC SA"
Indeed they do. I did finally figure that out:)
nice video , can you please give us the links of these TBS and XM+ receiver you took, I'm not sure i'm checking the good ones on TBS website.
What transmitter are you using? I have a Taranis QX7 and would it work with XM+? If so what do I need to do to the Transmitter?
I use a qx7. You don't need to do anything but bind the xm+ to the qx7:). Thanks for watching and a sub is appreciated!
@@DoRC Thanks for the reply. What did you do in Betaflight to change the receiver from onboard to the XM+?
does it still has smartaudio after changing the vtx?
VERY NICE, I'm trying to (build) mount a Runcam Nano 2, Diatone f411 nano FC, frsky xm+ and Runcam xt200u to a Diatone Cube 239 with great difficulty. I was wondering if you have any suggestions on this subject? I think I need to use a smaller vtx other than the tbs unify pro nano... awesome modification...cheers!
What problems are you having?
@@DoRC not enough space for Runcam tx200u and not sure of a way to mount. Thanks!
Hmm maybe add spacers under the canopy to give you more vertical space? The eachine nano vtx might fit better
@@DoRC OK, Sounds great... Thank you my friend...cheers!
Could you de-solder instead of cut the VTX off? I would thing you could preserve the pins and make it easier.
You definitely could. The pins are plenty long enough after cutting but desoldering is the safest way to go. I've done a decent amount of work with electronics so I felt confident about cutting them. Thanks for watching and a sub is appreciated!
For the runcam how do you switch out connector? I am going to swap mine but do I need to solder them or is it easier than soldering?
Do you have any tutorials on the process? thanks.

do you think this would work on a tiny hawk s the board looks the same just rotated was thinking of putting an rxs-r and a nano in one
You are absolutely right. I figured that out eventually:)
I believe it uses 1 for smart audio and 2 for the RX but honestly I can't remember for sure.
Do you know if you can connect the Tinyhawk freestyle to any controller?
It depends on what version you got. All controllers operate on different protocols. If you can be more specific I can help further.

Awesome though the dead xm+ is a bummer. Thanks for watching!
Also how can I buy the camera guards from you?
Great video , just a quick question , how did you get rssi with xm+
Xm+ outputs rssi on ch16 so you set that in betaflight as the rssi channel.
Think I want to do this to my tinyhawk 2.. just need a lil more range outside my building.. think too much interference. doesnt go far at all before video gets back most the time.. raised it to 200mw helps some but wish i could go further without worrying.. i havent soldered in 10 years though lmao.. and never was good at it lol

i planning on doing the same upgrades but with a new xm (not a xm+) receiver i have laying around. do you know if ill have to flash the rx with newer firmware to have rssi in my osd?
