It's not a joke, they did indeed name an asteroid after me. You can look it up here: ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/tools/sbdb_l...
I want to use this opportunity as an excuse to explain why asteroids are cool.

"Sabine is making a big impact" is suddenly a much more ominous statement.
😂😂😂
😁😁😁🤯☠
You can be sure they won't find any strings on it.
😮
You mean "Hossi"?
You either die a hero or live long enough to become an asteroid.
You live and die, probably become an asteroid someday.
Or in my case a planet..Uranus lol.
Or have a long enough name to not have an asteroid named like you
@@stoneneils u become myanus if you live long enough ?? ayein
I'm a quasi Moon of Venus...
Sabine’s like the cool aunt that you always want to hang out with because she’s just so freaking cool
I agree, but I'd say freaking cool niece instead. Just a different perspective. 😅
And without knowing it or trying
Well that's what I call having a stellar reputation
Soon clickbait title on some fanpage: "Will Sabine Hossenfelder destroy life on Earth?"
😆🤣😆🤣😆🤣😆
Hossi!
Sabine Hossi?
It's listed as being 3.2km, so probably not, but I'd still be interested in knowing how much damage it could do:
16648 Hossi 1993 SH7 Hossi September 17, 1993 La Silla E. W. Elst · 3.2 km MPC · JPL
Assuming YT didn't auto delete it, that was from "List of minor planets: 16001-17000", on Wikipedia.
I can honestly say now “you rock”.
I like it 😂
Underated comment 🎉
"FRANK ZAPPA and the MOTHERS OF INVENTION - COSMIK DEBRIS LIVE"
Hasn't Sabine lived and performed in Sweden too? "Asteroid 1980JE is named 3834 Zappafrank .."
++++
Couldn’t say better 😊
Congratulation for the well deserved naming. "Yes, that guy" brought you fortune, now you have another thing in common: ein Stein.
😂😂😂
bestimmt!
The potato on the fork was a lovely touch. Congratulations on having a new namesake.
You are not just a science communicator but a voice of reason that is not afraid to speak against the status-quo. Well deserved, congratulations.
Yeah man i really like that about her! She just wants to get to the damn truth!
Albeit one that is really hard to listen to
I concure! Grattis!
@@fredschmitt456Hello Elon!
Exactly! As a former scientist I really appreciate her calling out the BS in academia. There are so many professors and researchers willing to do anything to get funding and this is not a healthy academic environment and ultimately the reason why I left
"No one has taken any pictures of my asteroid so HERE WE GO" 😂😂😂
Frankly, the CGI seemed a little potato…
When taking bad pictures, usually it's the _camera_ that is a potato, not the subject... 😅
Would have thought a picture would have had to have been taken to know it's there, but maybe that's quibbling.
I always thought Germans didn't have a sense of humor, but Sabine's certainly proven me wrong! 😂
@@lennyvalentin6485 It's not that most people didn't think Germans had a sense of humor. The normal complaint/stereotype that I hear is that Germans have a sense of humor, and they have plenty of jokes; but that either most people don't get the joke or cannot figure out why it's funny.
But that works both ways. I'm from Texas US and in the past went to Germany quite a bit and for every German joke I didn't get there was a Texan joke that a German didn't get. So it all came out equal in the end.
There is one German stereotype that is nothing short of stupendous: Beer
P. S. There is one American stereotype that I can confirm: most commercial beer over here is tasteless and inferior. But in Texas you can find good beer. It's made by, you guessed it, German immigrants. 😁
Hello, Sabine!
That Gentleman who works at the Small Body Group is certainly also a subscriber and a viewer of your Channel, like me/us here.
It was a really nice recognition.
What You do is also important. Science Comunication is important!
Congratulations on the asteroid!
Oh.. and also, congratulations on the below 4h marathon!
Isn't having twins the much larger accomplishment? I'd rather do the marathon!
@@jimmeuer1 Yes, the twins are, but I didn't want to force Sabine into remembering slippers flying in space... 😁

Your recreation of the potasteroid Hossi is simply genius
This video is a nice juxtaposition to the "I failed In Academia" one. Getting recognized by fellow scientists and getting asteroids named after you is the exact opposite of failing.
I believe that's called a win. LOL
You are dearly loved as a science communicator. It's about time there is a an asteroid named after you.
Maybe something a BIT more substantial
The dinosaurs found an asteroid to be very substantial.
Congrats Sabina - so relieved that it's rocky rather than icy.
I now know the names of two asteroids I'll never forget. Sabine and Hossi. Thank you for all you do.
There's also a documentary on the reason one of them forgot to light the oven. (Bogart & Hepburn film)
way better than names such as FSDFSDFSF8343438
This is such a cool example of how Sabine has many fans everywhere.
They should name the rocket they send to find it “Spudnik”
LOL
Sabudnik sounds good too 😂

Sabine Hossenfelder (b. 1976, nicknamed "Hossi" in school), a German physicist and science communicator.
A well deserved honor. I was very pleased to hear this.
Excellent backstory on asteroid 16648 "Hossi".
7.
I’m glad you’re getting attention as a science communicator! We need people like you to make difficult science topics approachable to people like me.
i suspect we can make physics, mathematics, chemistry and even some engineering fields easier to understand if we change the names of concepts and ideas from something quirky the author wanted to ise to something useful, and stop naming things afther the author too, like in ancient greece, they invented words for concepts that reflected the idea being adressed, using roots and suffixes even, i had a hard time in college understanding and associating some ideas because of the names choosen, because typically they were words already being used in other fields for other things totallly unrelated and it caused confusion sometimes, i feel like the language being used to describe the ideas and methods is lacking behind and becoming outdated given the enormous amount of information we create now and something has to be done.
Congratulations on the well-deserved honour, Sabine.
Congratulations Hossi! A true well deserved honor!
That's nice. As a neuropsychologist, the upper limits of my possible achievements would be having a destructive disease named after me. That's a very dubious honor. If anything, perfectly good names like "Alzheimer" or "Parkinson" have been completely ruined.
I wish you much success
At some point a guy named "Victor" just has to accept that his name is a little bit evil.
Well, you could have a successful treatment modality named after you, e.g. the Victovs Protocol. That would be cool.
Hi all, sorry for the double post, slight mistake in the edit.

A while ago you made a video that indicated you were having questions about what you are doing with this series of videos. I hope now you feel validated. Keep up the good work.
Well deserved congratulations. Now you can spend eternity going round in circles.
Conclusive proof that Sabine is NOT anti-science, just anti-bullshit.
The image of Hossi was very convincing
imagine putting that on your resume that would be so cool and the biggest flex
An honor well deserved. Hosi is one of a microscopic number of YOUTube presenters worth taking seriously.
Congratulations! You joined the ranks of several science communicators who have asteroids named after them. Good job!

Does Anton have one yet? I’m sure it would be a wonderful Asteroid if he got one
@@AM-uw3gp No, but Scott Manley has one.
Well, now the question is: Do you wanna make an impact, where and when, Hossi?!
I am very happy that you are so being recognized. You offer so much to the public through your vast knowledge. I will be searching for it!!
Thanks for being here Hossi !

😮 Way to go, "Hossi!" 😛
Mostly harmless? Congrats, you being named after a possible impactor is way better than having a crater named after you. Me thinks.

The "Small Body Group" sounds like an "Oompa-Loompa Dance Troop" to me.
"mostly rocky rather than icy" very fitting! (ie, you rock!)
Herzlichen Glückwunsch, Frau Hossenfelder, das freut mich sehr für Sie!
Well done! I'm glad to see you getting the recognition you deserve for the excellent work you've done. You have achieved a great deal, both in your academic work and as a science communicator, and I am chuffed to bits to see your hard work being rewarded in this fabulous way! Bravo 🎉
That's one of the coolest news I've heard! Congratulations, Sabine!

_... and a rock is a rock is a rock._
No. Asteroids contain stuff we won't find in Earth in that concentrations because the denser elements tend to accumulate deep inside Earth out of our reach.
It's not every day you have an astroid named after you. Congrats.
Well done and beats having an insect named after you.
"Now, I became Death, the destroyer of worlds" - Congratulations Sabine!
Well, it is a viable option for Physicists . . . .
When someone told the younger you to reach-for-the-stars, I guess this is what they meant. Congratulations.

That's absolutely wonderful. Congratulations! Thank you for being you, Sabine.
Sabine, a big congratulations on having the asteroid, Hossi, named after you. That is so exciting and such a great endorsement of your mission to help us all understand so many aspects of science. We luv u!!!
Congratulations! You are now officially immortal. You are now allowed to demand tribute from mortals and wear cool gothic clothes without looking like a cringe teenager.
The academics you left behind will now murmur (more loudly)…
In truth, all of us are allowed to do this.. perhaps by promoting their patreon.
Congratulations, Sabine! I'm sure that it will turn out to be very interesting and unique, like its namesake!
I'm a casual subscriber but I can't help but feel proud. Way to go Sabine!! I feel like you are one of the channels who embodies the OG spirit of RUclips 🙌
The fact that it's small or just a rock is irrelevant. Hossi is now formally on our astro map and that it's named after you ... is quite a compliment ... and well deserved ... thank you for sharing this. I love your sense of humor, and ability to make science a little more understandable Sabine ❤.
I wouldn't exactly describe a 3 mile wide rock as small. That's actually a relatively significant asteroid.
I hope it turns out Pretzle shaped
@@kirbyjoe7484
Well, 3km...
Bur yeah.
Or you could have named your asteroid "MINE" with zero chance of unintended consequence.
Its really hard to appriecate things, With homeostasis always bringing us back down to base level and all the hedonic treadmill jazz, and since thats the case its really important to make sure we actively make an effort to remember what we're greatful for. the fact you have an asteroid, 1.3 million subscribers and many more viewers/listeners shows we really do appreciate your efforts and people are actively being greatful which is amazing, it speaks to your importance and value to the community you have fostered. Youre an amazing person thank you for your dedication to your craft. You deserve all the good that comes your way!
the asteroid potato footage was spectacular

Well deserved, and congratulations Sabine! You ROCK now in more ways than just as a phenomenal science communicator 😁
It's about time - congratulations!!! And an excellent reason to talk about the importance of asteroids. Wow to the three stars!
You are seriously awesome Sabine. A real role model. You’re really doing it!
Congratulations!!! That's, at the very least, a confirmation that your efforts have traction, and people think highly of how you're spending your time here! I agree with those people. Nice spoken, same for me
There's been much written about ‘Living in the Now'. Turns out one can actually calculate its duration. Hint: don't blink or you'll miss it.
Living in the Now happens in a zone sandwiched between the Future and the Past. Turns out it's a breathtakingly narrow window.
It can be measured by the Planck Length (theorized to be a possible fundamental limit of the universe, where the effects of quantum gravity become significant) and the Speed of Light in a vacuum.
First we calculate the distance of a Planck Length:
Speed of light in a vacuum (c): Approximately 299,792,458 meters per second.
Planck's constant (h): Approximately 6.626 x 10^-34 joule-seconds.
Gravitational constant (G): Approximately 6.674 x 10^-11 m^3/(kg s^2).
Formula: Planck Length (l_p) = √(hG / 2πc^3) giving us an Approximate Value: l_p ≈ 1.616 x 10^-35 meters
Next we calculate the duration of Planck Time (the smallest theoretical unit of measurement for time)
Planck Time: The theoretical time it takes light to travel one Planck length (the smallest possible distance) in a vacuum. It's approximately 5.39 x 10^-44 seconds.
Living in the Now in the Quantum Zone is short lived indeed 😁
You've meticulously calculated the wrong answer. "Now" has been happening since the beginning of time so it's probably about 13.8 billion years long and counting.
Congratulations, Hossi!
Strictly speaking, the "small body group" would be the morgue attached to the local kindergarten. And that, of course, would make you have second thoughts about sending your child to that particular kindergarten
