I use the trailer hitch on the back of my SUV. Set the tire down along the receiver's centerline, throw a scissor jack between the receiver hitch and the tire and start cranking. The jack's base is almost a copy of a tire store's presser foot. Works great too.
Well done! I tried it on two 23 year big and OLD trailer tires and it did not quite get it (practically welded to the rim amazing as that sounds), so ended up using a farm jack as a clamp. I think your technique helped a lot and got it started.
its really cute how ladies will watch videos when asked to do something out of pocket, so they don't mess it up. i know a few guys who could use that advice to save a few hours and the ibuprofen supply
@@ruutjormun2262 Nice comment. so they don`t mess it up. Offenders with fragile egos would be so insulted. I had a failed heating system water valve, deep in a horrible very shallow crawl space in an OLD house. Guy who actually does installations for a living offered to fix it. He went down with new valve, a torch, copper tubing and other things ”necessary.” I went along to watch and maybe help. He cut copper water supply line to remove the valve, and, to my horror, dried the pipe with with the torch, remarkably, without incinerating us both, and managed to install the new valve. Not prepared for another nerve wracking experience when another valve failed, with on line help, I went down myself with a new valve, flashlight, and an off set screwdriver. Installing a new one took minutes. I`m actually a 7Oish woman, with a very mechanical mind. YT requested one and that just popped up. I never told the initial installer as I have never told a man I can readily see what he cannot~an old `his ego` and old and stupid his ego thing. though many have told me I cannot do something, when, very clearly, I know I CAN, and do. Aint life a laff! Great post. Just what I was looking for. Found another on fixing my one power windows. Told two hours and double the cost I got the part for. A hundred bucks and a hour of my time VS estimate of FIVE hundred bucks. I LOVE RUclips DIYers.
This method is acceptable if you're not planning to reuse the tires. If you deflate the tire as much as possible with the valve core is still installed, you greatly reduce have a risk of it launching itself. If you have clip on weights it's a good idea to remove them right after deflation
You could also use the rotor of the car you're changing tires on and lower the jack with the rotor on the edge of the bead till it pops off it also wouldn't try to flip the wheel as easily. You also might want to lay something down to not scratch the wheel was said before
I'm glad you can do this , but I see so many ways this could go wrong with a average guy / in the front of your car that plastic that is so close , I can see the 4x4 or tire moving and you have a thousand dollars dammage to your car . probably a better choice for me anyhow is my truck which is much higher and putting the end of the 4x4 instead of the side . less chance of the tire flipping into the car , with a truck it would probably hit the bumper if it did flip up not causing as much dammage if any
is there a reason why everyone uses the font (visible side of the rim to take the tire off - can you not do it opposite way and remove from the backside incase you visual scratch or nick the rim?
Thanks for letting me know this is not a DIY job. The amount of time it takes to do one tire (not to mention four) is not a good investment unless it’s just for fun.
I apologize for my ignorance and hypocrisy. I tried it and it went very well. Looked intimidating but it went very well. Better than I expected. Thanks for the video. Shame on me.
Old tire jack is this best ways came with cars in the 60s and 70s. What your doing does not always work back side of tire with raise up on ground depending how old long the tire has been on steel wheel mags are easier to break loose they want rust
I’ve not tried this. But maybe you could get a length of rubber hose and put a slice in it lengthwise so that you can slip it over the rim to protect it. A thicker hose would obviously be better.
Be real careful using that technique of driving up on a 4 by 4.... Every now and then the wheel will flip up and slap your fender, potentially causing $hundreds of damage.
In the case of your life depends on the tyre - no questions. But IRL side effects of such a procedure aren't worthy the result. Which side effects? One may damage bumper of the car (if wood stick slides), may damage cabin if wheel jumps at the last moment, may scratch the rim, using metal tools for removing tyre. It's 21st centure! I used this way back in 1993, when I was a 15 yo boy and we didn't have tyre service in my town. The method is functional, but it is using tools, it is dangerous and dirty. But respect to the author for reminding.
I want to try this: I have 14 year old tires on rims that no shop will remove, and I have to pay to dispose of. If I remove the tires, maybe i can sell the rims.
Just a few complaints about your technique... first things first you need to explain to people that you should place the rim front facing down on an old piece of carpet or something similar as to not scratch the front facing side surface of the rim... then explain that facing the rim front faced down means that you'll be removing the tire from the backside of the rim using hand tools that could very possibly damage the front facing surface causing irreparable damage... so next time remove the tire from the rim especially if they are anything but steel with hubcaps or unless your absolutely not concerned about damaging your front facing rim causing damage that can't be repaired thus not saving you any money let alone $5-$15 per tire is not worth the effort or the money if damage to the rim happens during removal/replacement of the new/old tires... great job otherwise but details matter... thanks for posting next time front rim facing down on an old piece of plush carpet or similar material would be best...
Agreed!! $5 is $5, money doesn’t grow on trees! I have 2 tires to take off the rims- that’s $10 toward something other than paying someone to do a task could have done with a simple 4x4;)

For those using pry bars make sure the edges are rounded off and smooth or else you will tear up the bead on the tire ..good job
Many thanks for posting this video playboy

That would be smart way to do it .
Yes there is, it makes it a lot harder to take off because of the valve stim and stuff gets in the way and you risk damaging it
Okay so what I learned from this is that it's worth my time to just go to Discount Tire and ask them to pop my tires off 😂
If you soap the bead at the before roll up the stick, it would be much easier
I made beadbreaker out two bladed (axe) very dull

Very helpful. Thanks
well that beads the angle grinder method
no in all honesty, that is genius - i got a lot of junk wheels and i gotta get the tires off. thanks :D
I paid the tire shop or walmart 25buck to take out tire and put in new for just 1 tire.

I have 3 tires I need the rims to come off
Now how do we get it back on
Hey 👋 that was cool
Thanks
I have 6 tires got to get these rims out
Do you have to remove the valve core?
If most of the air is out, I doubt it. This isn’t exactly surgical. Lol.
yes. the answer is yes. unless you want to blow up your tire.

How do I make sure I'm not damaging my chrome wheels while doing this?
I didn’t say it was the best way, only that it was an easy way.
Put a piece of plywood under the wheel.
I’ve not tried this. But maybe you could get a length of rubber hose and put a slice in it lengthwise so that you can slip it over the rim to protect it. A thicker hose would obviously be better.
tape some foam around your prybar where it contacts the rim
U do that to the tire and what does it break sir?
Doesn’t break anything. I wouldn’t do it to a good tire.
I’ve used this method to change tpms before
thank you for the video
You’re welcome
KOOL!!!! THANKS
I wan see you put it back on
Bravo !!
Years go that would not had worked we tried it lol. Steel wheels loves to rust against bead of the old bias tires lol

When I remove the tyre, is it possible to put it into a new wheel? Like, does this removal technique damage the tyre??
I’d not recommend doing it with a good tire, and I’ve never tried putting one back on like this. I wouldn’t recommend it.
Lol, now I just need a second car because we've removed the tire from the first car..

The only way to remove tires.while the tire is compressed stick your sawzall in and cut it across.
Now, how to find the puncture!
my tire would not come off no matter how hard i pried 😡😡😡 so fgd tight! had to take it to a tire shop.
Bummer. Sorry it didn’t work.
I love it how all these videos about taking the tire off the rim are with brand new tires and tread. What a joke.
My guy, deep breath, there are other reasons to separate a tire from its rim
Life hack: do away with the board and wedge the tire under your front rolling tire
Tire on tire action, oh
Doesn’t work
Saws all would do it in 30 seconds
doesn't cut through the bead. need an angle grinder for that.

If the person is so stupid as to drop their rim face down on the concrete...well they just need a bus pass.
it's a lot of work and surprise the tire need balance
The junk yard will do it for $3.00

Dont work ! Tire doesn’t just pop off. You cut yours maybe
Nope. Worked for me.
remove the valve core, otherwise the tire stays pressurized and will probably explode at the sidewall instead of allowing the bead to be pushed down.
