@@armandogarcia1024he really just needs to work on his lateral speed he’s so slow sometimes but it makes sense with the amount of injuries he’s had in such a short time
@@jonnydel Early this season, it didn't seem like he was getting separation and shed in his run defense. Now he's had two straight games where he's gotten off blocks to make stops. Its so great to be able to trust his play this year!
People were so quick to jump down Steve Wilks' throat in the loss streak, but he had some adjusting to do. The defense has been so good, and I think part of the reason why our Points Allowed is so good is because he has elevated the secondary to the next level with his career knowledge of DB coaching. I think this is part of why he was a great hire in the first place, and why Lynch and Shanahan wanted him after he was gone from Carolina.
Felt bad for brown when Warner sniped the pick, but damn that was a crazy catch by Warner. But seriously Brown was standing under the ball in a freaking fair catch position, that’s how badly chase young affected the pass with his hit.
@@jonnydel seemed like Fred didn’t even do it on purpose, he was looking back running under the ball so he never saw anybody else was in position to catch it, he was just locked onto that football as soon as it went up.
Great to see that so much of that great DT play against the run that you highlighted is with Givens and Davis. Those two are essentially the bottom rung of our DT depth chart (especially Davis getting his first meaningful game action), so it's great to see them making the important plays against the run as well. We'll need those two and Kinlaw to keep it up with Armstead and Hargrave both dealing with injuries.
Honestly, that Dline goes beyond the starters. Givens Kinlaw and now Davis can definitely stop any rush. The way they disrupt the movement of the center and guards is crazy. Specially Kinlaw when he goes low
Fred intercepting that ball from Brown... Good job by Brown setting that and not going for that ball. I've seen so many would be picks where two defenders went for it and interfered, not that it would've mattered here since it was 4th down. Wilks has the secondary playing so much better, makes sense since that's his background, but the defense is playing great in all three levels now, just like the offense is threatening every blade of grass.
Great vid as usual, loved what the backfield did without Mooney Ward, including almost 2 interceptions for Brown, and great playcalls by Wilks! Thanks for letting us know that the deep pylon route is not in the Niners progression on that deep speedo concept; J.T. O'Sullivan has been screaming about Brock not throwing the pylon route when it's open, even when Brock hits the deep crosser/over for a nice gain. He needs to watch your vids!
@@jonnydel Absolutely, but that's why he should watch your vids... love that not only do you have the playbook, but usually get/have the playbook of the opposing team that week so that folks truly know the hows and whys.
Great breakdown as usual. Good to see some solid all-round play - really felt the whole defence was playing as a unit. Also can't imagine anything much worse for a QB than breaking through a failing pocket only to find Greenlaw is the one facing you in the open field...
@@jonnydel thank man just got it! Also been watching some cardinals film and they play a zone coverage of three safeties on top with 3 linebackers in the middle, what is that coverage called?
Huf is a PBer but its starting to look like if he wants to get paid like a PBer, it's going to be by another team. Brown is pretty damn good considering three games experience. Have to wonder what his upside is. Now maybe its Gipson they find expendable, and he is old, but I think Huf's spot is in real danger here. Ferrell's game really surprised me. He seemed positively involved on a high percentage of plays he saw snaps on. Gregory had his best game as a Niner. Please be healthy Mooney!! But well done by the secondary in his absence. Happy we weren't facing Josh Allen today. Everything revolves around the flow of those two ungodly linebackers in the eye of the hurricane. We're so blessed.
@@jonnydel Hufanga has another year to run, so we're okay for a little while one way or the other. And they love the player (as do I). I'm just saying when push comes to shove, I'm not sure they'll offer a fifth year option. I think there are positions that Kyle and Lynch are willing to spend on and I don't feel like safety is one of them. If he wants to get paid like a pro-bowler, I think it will be out of their price range.
@@Lollz97 Agreed. They have that year to bring another safety up-to-speed, so that could easily be the strategy. I think Brown is a better player than Huf. Or rather, has a higher ceiling. Doesn't hit as hard, so the Ronnie Lott in me isn't satisfied, but he does everything else too well at that age that I'm sure the org realizes they drafted a real good kid. A lot just depends too on whether Huf wants to get paid. If he'll take a discount to remain on the team, I'd think they'd look to find cap room to keep him. And of course, he has to have the same mobility after injury, which is far more hopeful these days.
Hey man, back again as always but i actually had a questionnfor you. The cowboys arw overdhadowing the 49ers het again but still seem weak to me. Not weak in the sense of awful, but weaker in the sense it would be a W. If we meet them in the playoffs what are your thoughts on us besting them again with an MVP level purdy, all the weapons on offense to work with, and the leading defense? Curious to see your thoughts and takes with your depth of knowledge I knowingly lack lol. Thanks JDFA! Great vid as always.
One reason they're weaker is they're spending a huge amount more on their QB than we are. Our roster is more complete. Honestly, there's not a team in the league that I'm scared of with how the team is playing
@jonnydel Same. This is the most confident I've been in the Niners in my lifetime. They could take it all this year if they stay healthy and stay hungry. I'm curious to see what this team will look like in 2-3 years and Purdy really getting to prove himself as the roster gets cut down a bit. Although I will say with our late drafting luck, the niners should still be able to steal some dogs to compensate too. But thats for the future. Thanks man and looking forward to the next video!
You CANNOT depend on 1 person against our Defense. If you think, oh as long as we get the ball to DK we're fine, its over. You have to make us cover EVERYTHING.
Idk about "better than ever" considering injuries are taking their toll. I swear, every game in the back of my mind I'm praying that these boys stay healthy.
Love the work Jonny but I think you have compression to high. Is the Patreon feed higher res? An example being where you said that Kinlaw made a textbook stack and shed, but the video showed him start to move and then players were unpiling. Everything that you wanted to show about Kinlaw's work was trimmed by the compression algorithm
49ers already had great linebackers, but from off-season through now they keep adding fantastic defensive players up front and in the secondary. This with a defense that was already great last year, kinda like #1 in the league. WTF are other GMs doing that they're not seeing these opportunities? But unless some other team knocks the Cowboys out in an earlier playoff round, very likely that's the big test for this unit.Your place or mine? We'll take either.
They're not hitting on late round talent, keeping it homegrown and building from there. Warner and Greenlaw were not real high draft picks. There's actually no one on the defense, other than DL, that the 49ers have spent higher than a 3rd round pick on.
A couple oddities. I showed the first one. The 2nd was a missed tackle then a bust in coverage by FF right when he came into the game for an injured Burks
