This video and your crayfish pattern helped me catch my first Grand River carp on the fly, thanks for the great videos. I darted the cray away as if it was merely just running away from the feeding carp, let it sit and on came over a monster. Sucked it right up gently and didnt even realize till i set the hook! Took off running out of the slow moving pool into the current. What a fight took me well over a five minutes to get it back into the pool and into the net without breaking off.
Great information. Thanks for posting. All of your tactics are spot on. A light bulb in my head just went on. Every time I caught carp is when I was fishing for small mouth and yes, most of the largest fish I ever caught were carp on light tackle and my reels were destroyed by the time I landed the fish. 20+ pounds. Up grade time and paying close attention to the water now. Thanks
As always entertaining and super informative. So right about carp high IQ. And never thought about ignoring them to get their guard down. Kind of like women ;) I'm going to try that.
Another suggestion for videos. How about tying flies for carp. Your crayfish pattern looked very interesting as did all the flies in your fly box. Cheers!
I'm in the middle of upgrading the studio cameras at the moment, but when the last camera body arrives, I'll be shooting some summer patterns, including the crayfish and the beachhead squirrel tail.
They're usually in the shallows, close to shore. In rivers, they like slow currents and current breaks. Finding them usually requires some scouting, but the good thing, they tend to always congregate in the same spots. So if we find them once, we can keep going back to the same spot.

Carp on the cray is always a blast. If we keep stripping the cray, the carp will chase it down. That gets the heart's BPM up a tad.

I wish I had access to this playlist when I started fishing :D This is what every novice is looking for. Hope you get more reach!
Well, all I can say is I.C.J. started me with this and I know he will be looking over my shoulder. "Damn I miss him", thanks, Peter.
Yup. Still have a couple of his flies that he gave me.
would love to see you produce a deeper series on carp fishing
We'll see what next summer brings.
Excellent tips thank you .
супер, много полезной информации спасибо вам)

I love all fly fishing but carp are my favourite, lakes though
40ld carp on a fly rod?!!! I take my hat off to you sir!
That’s and interesting tip about acting like they are not there!
I have St. Croix Mojo bass 7ft. 9in. 8wt. The carp on the Delaware River are large. Is that rod enough ?
Yes, the shorter 7' 9" rod has more leverage on a fish than a 9' rod. An 8 wt. is enough as well. I've landed huge carp on an 8.

hooked4lifeca yes sir that would be appreciated.
Very interresting 👍
How do you locate carp when you don’t know where they are?
They're usually in the shallows, close to shore. In rivers, they like slow currents and current breaks. Finding them usually requires some scouting, but the good thing, they tend to always congregate in the same spots. So if we find them once, we can keep going back to the same spot.
Is that your own crayfish pattern, Peter?
Yes it is. I have to get around to doing a video on it.
I'll look forward to seeing it. Thanks.
