- I love playing support cruisers, but sometimes, there's a need to cause some mayhem, and that's where the assault cruiser role comes in. With average armour and gun calibre, they're jacks-of-all-trades, but that also means they can be very effective in most situations.

I'm surprised Mainz wasn't mentioned here. The ultimate assault, jack-of-all trades, cruiser.
Mainz is basically a what-if version of the Hipper, with Nürnberg's guns on it. Yes, she can play that role as well, since she's not quite as squishy as some CLs around this tier due to the hull.
I feel like an argument could be make about the Dutch crusiers as well, but very informal video. Love the Hipper and I have the Black one too.

This is the reason I love the German heavy cruisers, They are really good at cleaning the remaining squad like a DD or BB and even a CA (only works if they are not in a div) best against solo player's
I love my cruisers. You can play this role in some BBs, but it's just so much harder. As long as you can compensate for the lower armour / hp by playing smart (and not getting focused), as well as figuring out how to use the guns optimally, they're pretty dangerous against most things.

I played all I have found the German lines crush the more ranging heavies but assaulting a heavy cruiser and a bb is just asking to be food. I also suggest to start at low speed look for the lines to develop and flank if it's one of two dd or defend against dd while pounding a cruiser. The German also more forgiving at mistakes.
That's what I meant with "don't go rushing out and take point". Heavy cruiser maybe, but they're still cruisers :) In a 1:1 however, I'm quite confident to take on a BB, especially if they're obliging to sail into torpedo range.
I love on how you brawl that Ragnarok because many ppl out there say that none cruiser can outbrawl BB but in german line we can do it

That's German heavy cruisers for you. Time the BB salvos, get into torpedo range, and shred away. German 203mm AP does a lot of damage, and the armour should be able to hold enough for the kill. Hipper class is fun that way :)

I'm loving my light cruisers, and I'm more afraid of these types of heavy cruisers instead of BBs. I'm planning to grind one of them just for experience, but I'll wait for Marseille first to be released for tier listing them. Too bad Jinan will be released first on January (maybe I'll grind it too!) but I'll still wait.
Absolutely. It's the rate of fire, while still having enough penetration to seriously mess with your armour plating. Against a BB, you just need to dodge a salvo every 20-30s, then proceed to burn them in between. Heavy cruisers are a different kettle of fish, especially if they can get close.

I'm Currently doing the Dutch cruisers and can't place them. They're not light, support or assault cruisers... what are they?
Dutch cruisers can play both support and assault. Good AA, sonar, but limited anti-DD capabilities as the line progresses. Aggressive, island-based play is necessary to utilise the limited range on the airstrikes. They're not super-specialised, but I think can fill both reasonably well.

Kurfürst, Yamato and probably CC, although I've only played her pre-nerf. The German BC line is fun as well, except for tier 8, which is dreadful, but then same for the IJN BBs :)

I play mogami a lot like this. I really like being able to rush with bow forward and still getting mostly 9 guns to bear and then dropping its heavy torps. I haven’t really played the German heavy cruisers much though.
Mogami is technically a heavy cruiser, even though what we're getting here in-game is the "light cruiser guns" edition

What is the main difference in role between the German BCs and heavy cruisers
The BCs are in-between heavy cruisers and battleships. In a BC, dealing with destroyers is harder, so you usually wouldn't do the "watch for holes in the lines and clean them up" tasks quite as often. They're more breakthrough ships, relying on situation to bring their firepower to bear.
In a BC, I'd be taking point and leading a push on occasion, if the opposition is manageable. In a cruiser, not so much. In a German BB, you can neglect opposition to a degree and just tank.
