      I use that gel like stuff (same stuff as kids slime I think), picks up all the dust and doesn’t leave any residue. So you’re not just brushing the dust about.

      Awesome Eric! Its a late response now but how has it been coming along? what's the brains of the setup?

    • @Bronkosauras
      @Bronkosauras 3 года назад

      @@RickyTinez I'm at the beginnings of this wonderful journey. I have currently been collecting a few pieces here and there to find those sounds in the hardware that I really want to work with in my music. I'm at a point that I think I'm close to where I want to be at, but I need a few more pieces and maybe you can recommend what can help me out. I'd love a 19 in rack MIDI channel splitter if you have a suggestion. I'm also looking for a solid studio mixer and I think I have found one in an Allen & Heath ZED 16FX unit.
      As far as the brains? Just my iMac and I will more than likely use my Roland TR-8S as for setting up the tempo/percussion. Otherwise, I just picked up a Arturia KeyStep 37. As I said, I am in the setup stage atm. This seems to be the current popular choice in midi control. The A&H mixer is USB input as to send the stems to my DAW. I'm using Logic Pro atm, but I am thinking of switching back over to Ableton. Not sure on that as of this moment. Needless to say, I have a lot of decisions to make here.

    Just got a Novation Circuit in part thanks to watching your compact creations and Minimal Setups. Wanted to share that my Minimal Setup is just a Novation Circuit with a Yamaha Reface CP. I use the aux input in the CP so that eliminates the need for a mixer and since they're both battery operated that eliminates the need for power cables!

    • @RickyTinez
      @RickyTinez  5 лет назад +1

      Damn that’s a solid setup! What midi implementation is on the Yamaha? Can you send midi out to circuit and record the data into a track and have the same track send it back?! Basically acting as a midi looper

    • @gautrstafr
      @gautrstafr 5 лет назад

      @@RickyTinez Yes you can! You can turn local control off and that'll do the trick. Unfortunately you cannot change channels or local control on the fly. You must turn it off and on. If you wanted to do something like that the Reface CP can do it

    I use the TR-08 for rhythm/drums. Love that thing. Sure, it's not analog, but it doesn't need to be to be reliable and intuitive to use. I grew up on the old-school machines back in the day, so the JP-8000, TR-808, TB-303, etc. MIDI cables and patch cables strewn across my and my brothers work space like a couple of crazy scientists, and we'd lose ourselves for hours in that clusterfuckery of insane jam sessions. Man, I miss the late 80's, early 90's.

    I love watching these videos, Ricky. They help me to focus on what's important. I, too, have quite a lot of different bits of gear which are all connected up but sometimes it's just too much, with too many choices. I have enjoyed the idea of just choosing two or three bits and jamming with them just to see where it goes. It's been a lot of fun! Best of luck with the show in London. Sure you'll just smash it!

    These videos have been really interesting insights. I'm in a process of trying to figurie out with what and how could I perform live as I've been getting some inquiries about the possibility to do so. I make my music in a very live-unfriendly manner, so I kinda lack the possibility atm. All my gear are connected to my effects and mixers and such and most of my devices aren't really that live-friendly to begin with. I don't want to get into the unplug-plug back affair as I want my studio to be in a shape of "just do it", when the inspiration strikes.
    That said, I've been toying with several ideas: maybe building a live-dj-set inside Traktor, having loop ques, special live-dj-versions of my tracks, playing samples and fills etc. on top inside the Traktor. And Traktor woudl run on laptop with touch screen (and/or with proper controller).
    Another idea would be building a live set from my tracks, but that not sure it would be that awesome. I mean: I use Cubase for production, but it really isn't live friendly software. That would mean I would need to probably use Live with some proper controller and get used to a bit different workflow.
    But somehow I hadn't thought about the idea of building the set inside a sampler. But then again... would anything else do than Octatrack, if I want to have a continuous set with ONE device, two at the tops? And I'm not that keen on getting an Octatrack. Somehow it just doesn't feel that lucrative and it isn't exactly cheap either (I'm also not into used markets). I have the Digitakt, but that isn't alone suitable for my idea... but maybe, if I'd get some other sampler to accompany my DT and a dj-style mixer in the middle.
    Well, thanks for the inspiration. As said: really interesting insights. I really dig the thinking aloud parts of these videos. :)

I want to purchase a device where I can produce some beat /song on the road as I’m going to travel for work. I will not have my laptop with ableton and I considering the novation circuit or maybe the model cycles. What do you think about these and would you recommend some others one (on the same budget I’m not rich unfortunately 🤣)

  • @meanguitar
    @meanguitar 5 лет назад +2

    The problem is if the gear is too rare and it breaks during a gig. In the 90s I had a linn drum 2 break during a gig not fun lol. The circuit is really easy to recover say the ship sinks during a yacht gig, your entire set on the circuit is backed up on the novation cloud the circuit is the only groovebox designed to survive a nuclear war.

    3:50 I think i see that novation launchcontrol XL in the background. I got that too. Really like the quality feel of it! I want something exactly like that - only that it is organized in a way that fits with a standardized synth layout, with a separate section for envelopes and oscillator stuff and "all that jazz". I guess it is difficult to make such a controller that works for all the software synths out there, and as i have never seen such a controller, i think im gonna have to make one myself. I have very limited knowledge about electronics, so i just hoping it will not be too difficult or expensive to make such a controller with a USB output that can handle all the stuff i would need to make a custom controller for Massive - or perhaps my own custom Reaktor synth; as i LOVE being able to add some nice analog emulations and modifiers to ALL the parameters i want it for - and not be limited like on most software and hardware :P

    i'm going dawless for sure, after vinyl dj in the late 90's, this is going to be how i perform in the future. i'm using maschine right now, it feels like dawless is the path for me.

    I find I'd always need rock solid behaviour and so the MPC was always my brain, sequencing everything and playing drum samples while I did live fills with another drum machine. That said, I'd also travel with effects so I could break out of all the channels separately and into a desk. so everything can be tweaked and fedback on itself. I don't think it's unreasonable for hosts to provide a 16 channel desk and jack leads if you're traveling distance. Equally though, traveling light would be great!

    Cool performance! Sounds like you will have a nice vibe going at the show! 🎼🎧🍸🍾🥂
    Minimal is a great way to go if you have the right tools. I made a nice beat yesterday with just my Tempest and FORCE.

    after what you were saying about the octatrack makes me now want to change my mind about buying it again :) I always wanted one, but you said that it goes complicated quick... and the whole reason for me is that I wanted something fun to use which is hardware, because I am normally on software.. questions over questions :)

      Circuit is an amazing, relatively inexpensive piece of "all-in-one" gear (groovebox). I'm a poor man though so I have low expectations compared to a lot of people in the music community. But it's the most fun piece of gear I've ever owned, between it, the Minilogue, and the Volca FM + Sample + Modular + Mix.

    Hey, im searching a Mono Synth (used under 300 Euro) to get the job done for good base lines. Im thinking the novation mono station could be good, i also like the sequencing features.. Bass station 2 is another option, more sound possibility. Behringer Crave would be the cheapest option or a volcas?
    Some advices or tips?

    That sounds great, and I think I'll have to give that circuit another look, I've just dismissed it as a fun groovebox, but that seems more powerful than I gave it credit for.

    which is better for sample mangling, and sequencing those mangled samples? the octatrack or the mpc1000? not interested in any live performance functionality, just purely as a creative tool in the studio....
