  • We lost power last weekend for about three days. This isn't my first time losing power while operating a fish room and aquarium plant farm. Fortunately losing power isn't as big of a deal as you may think... Hopefully. It's more of a headache than anything. Watch to learn some tips and tricks for how to minimize issues when you lose power with a fish tank.
During a power outage fishtank oxygen, temperature, filter, and ammonia are a few issues you may encounter.

Indeed it was! Hit us at 10pm out of nowhere then pretty much immediately the winds died down to just blustery conditions til mid morning then it was like it never happened lol. Big mess around the house 😂

Thank you, Will for the very informative and helpful video. I've only been keeping fish (and plants) for a short time, 3 years and so far, haven't had any significant issues with loss of power. But living in the great northwest as well, it's only a matter of time. This information will be helpful in the future. Thanks.

Lots of good information. When my power goes out, instead of a trying to break down my filtration systems, I just put a really fine mesh sock over both the intake and outtake so that when the power comes back on, it won’t shoot back any of that gunk into the tank. Then, after a few minutes, when the filters are running normally, I remove the socks.

Question in regards to stem plants. Do you have any other stem plants besides bacopa ? I purchased a plant four years ago and I've been fortunate to still have it. Basically trimming it to keep it going. Just forgot what it's called.

Hi Jorge, yes I do! Currently for stems I have three types of Ludwigia, Wisteria, S. Repens, Alternanthera Reineckii, Water Sprite (stem like), and Pogostemon Stellatus Octopus (currently sold out though). I am slowly expanding my offerings as well. Would like to have 20 species available next year at some point. Good job keeping that Bacopa going!

Hey great video, regarding oxygen what about when we have plants in our aquarium. Is it even better or about the same (cause i know that plants at night consume oxygen). Also a question i had from your previous videos is how long does it usually take for an emersed anubias to grow 1 leaf?

Well played with the lights off to start the video! I thought you were still without power after last weeks storm. Glad to hear your home wasn’t damaged.
