I don’t usually mind the slight stylization of frontier’s animals. They still make some of the best looking animal models in the business. That being said, the one animal they HAVE to remaster before they stop updating the game is the lion. It’s arguably the most iconic wild animal on the planet, and it’s the worst looking animal in the game.
Most likely it was the first one they created in the brainstorming phase, and before they finalized the style. They won't change it because that cost them money, and they won't make that cost back.
They will not. It would be a slight disrespect to one of their top senior artists. When the base game was conceptualized, its initial development including all the art (The way the animals look) was delegated to a very broad team of artists, most had been with Frontier for a very long time and worked on Planet Coaster. This is one of the reasons why the base game animals are somewhat different in style and detail than the dlc content. There are variations in style and detail in the base game roster while this is usually not the case with DLC animals.
The DLCs in the other hand have had a mostly dedicated group of artists (Two or three at any given time) that has mostly remained the same with very little changes throughout. Especially the last 5 dlcs where the animal quality has really remained very high.
Frontier as any company has progressed and learned thru their own work and experience, but they will not at this stage of the game, go back and change the aesthetic elements of certain base game animals.
It is more than likely than in the future (years from now) when it is relevant (meaning a significant improvement to the game's engine component and AI technology is present) they very well might release a sequel to the game (Planet Zoo 2) with not only a much-improved use of the AI system but also a more consistent aesthetic throughout the animal roster.
On December 8th while at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles during a video game award ceremony I heard that the visitor art component was completely changed for the upcoming Planet Coaster 2 so if Planet Zoo 2 (I believe it will happen based on its significant economic impact to Frontier) is ever a thing, this might also be part of any new changes as they usually just recycle the visitor art design from one game to another. With much more realistic visitors there is also a chance that the animals could all be significantly more realistic, still stylized to fit the game's art style choice of course, but much more lifelike than we currently have in PZ.

I have almost 500 hours in PZ and only recently started adding mods to my game. The last straw that convinced me was when I decided to build a train transport ride through several habitats and needed to aim the twisting track though several airlock gates. Doing it manually wasn't cutting it, and even autocomplete wasn't working due to the track limits being exceeded. I remembered that PZ Plus removed track limits so I installed that plus Freebuild, and holy moly I will never go back.

As a franchise player, it's Planet Zoo Plus for me. Yes, it reduces the space requirements which could be seen as cheating, but when you want to add a ton of objects with big hitboxes (like pebbles and bushes for realism!) into a franchise habitat it's invaluable. The habitat ends up being the same size it should be for animal welfare; in a way, Planet Zoo Plus is just a way to correct for the ridiculously big hitboxes some essential objects have.
The lion remaster is definitely also very useful; it makes lions fun to add to zoos again, because now they fit in visually with the other animals. I also really love the timber wolf remaster! It turns them from big silly puppies to absolutely majestic wild animals.
Is it able to choose a few of feature of this mode or I have to have all of them on?

Admittedly I only have 150 hours but funnily enough I haven't actually added lions to any of my zoos yet! I'll remember the remaster mod if/when I ever get around to it though. In the meantime Freebuild looks absolutely amazing.
At last, Lion Remaster I would add wolf and bears to the top 3 remasters. Cannot live without them anymore.
2 years after launch even DLC Jaguar looks so poor next to Amur Leopard. Ironically, present Frontier making past Frontier looking really bad
Planet Zoo plus is most needed - it does the same thing as the more morphs mod, plus adjusts the hitboxes for the animals. fixes some size errors and much more
I know. But I intentionally left it out because of my favor of vanilla gameplay. Even tho most of the changes are great the mod brings - it's not what frontier intended.
So it's not even rating wrong or right - my stance on mods in general is keeping it as much to vanilla as possible.
That said ... I have PZ plus myself for some occasions 🤣
Free build is absolutely a must-have! Maybe we'll get these features in the next "Planet ____" game.
I really wish there was a mod for the guest appearance. Even in the overall comic style presentation of the game, the guests are just immersion breaking to me. Guests from Jurassic would be cool.
Funny for me the guests from jwe look like shit haha. I love the guest from planet games. Because it's super hard to master actual guests with diversity etc.
Do be mindful with mods, while some work perfectly fine, others will make your game crash regularly, so the best thing to do is try out each mod individually, see how they work, and then keep them accordingly. The colour morph mod is absolutely fantastic and works no problem, but it doesn’t seem to be able to handle too many remastered models at once. Usually mods won’t permanently damage your game because it’s just an added file, so you’ll be fine testing them out, but not all mods are compatible so it’ll be up to you to find out.
I just released a new spotted hyena remaster today- let's just say they weren't very well done in the base game either 😂. I think a lot of the base game predators need remasters and the lion, timber wolf, and spotted hyena needed it the most.
Fully agree. But the lion IMO just stands out. I can live with the others.
Let's say in percent, if lynx would be 100% most of the worse ones would be around 80% for me.
The lion however is below 50% from my lynx index.
That's why I say it's a must have.
Hello Doc! What's up? I remember your hyena remaster since I used to work with you in the early days, I'm really happy how far your project went ever since. Now we have remasters for both lion and hyena, the 2 most iconic predators of the African savanna.

What you brought up in this video was just the final result of a lot of passion and dedication put into work for a mod whose iterations have been tens in the arch of years, all this by me, Gabboi, Narwhaler, Nick the Lion Rider, Julio Lacerda and many more. So again, I'm very glad you showed to your fanbase on YT what a lot of people have been looking for since day 1, and then finally came out.

I've been so scared of adding mods to PZ, but the more I sit and stare at all the birds and remasters available, the lower my restraint gets. I'm just so afraid of breaking my base game

i have addet the morph mod and the lion remaster mod but the morph mod diddent work and the lion remasters mod but all my lion turn white and if they arent white they dindnt change shape can you help me please

Does anyone know why ASCE causes Planet Zoo to crash? I can only get very limited mods due to it.

In the morphs mod, sometimes it gets annoying because you have too many albinos or melanistic or whatever that you don’t need and it gets annoying because it is unnatural to have so many morphs in a zoo

What happens when you us Freebuild in ur zoo, delete the mod and then open the zoo again. Will the path still work?

The best mod is obviously the tree kangaroo mod!

Does Freebuild require more CPU resources to run, or is there no real change? That is the one mod I am interested in, but haven't downloaded any mods because I was unsure how safe it was and if it was going to need a lot of resources to run. Furthermore, can mods be uninstalled in the same way? Go to that file and just simply delete? Or do parts of the files end up anywhere else? Any insight would be great on this. Thanks! :)
1. Nope, no extra CPU needed.

The modded lion looks worse imo, the texture quality is objectively worse
Wish Geforce NOW allowed mods and custom content in Planet Zoo. My PC can only run this game in minimum settings, which is torture to my eyes, therefore I play it through Geforce but I feel like I’m missing out on all the good stuff like FreeBuild and custom pictures/videos 🥹
