Your process never fails to amaze! Excellent as usual!! I appreciate that you gave Rob credit for the hot glue process he has perfected. Just a side note, denatured alcohol will release hot glue when it comes time to pull the forms. Should reduce the amount of force required.
I learned the denatured Alcohol trick from the solid surface guys I work with. They use hot glue for all kinds of temporary clamping tasks then use the denatured to allow easy release. It makes hot glue much more useful.
I wonder if two half-hull form sets might work for a kayak. That way you could strip the same way to the keel line on each set of forms, then join the two half hulls together. The forms could be keyed to each other to keep them aligned while joining the hulls. That may be a bit much extra work at the beginning for a one-off kayak but handy if you want a couple of the same type.
It saves time to strip beyond the centerline of the boat, then come back and trim off the ends of all the strip all at once exactly to the centerline. I use the long strip to draw that centerline on the bottom of the boat before cutting it.
Probably a stupid question :-) I thought the hotglue would peel out woodfibers when removed ? But I guess not since you use it. Hmm. Side rabbit plane... Think I would need one
I like this technique. Just a hair more involved than shooting thousands of staples. Juest scrape the glue off. Not having to pull thousands of staples out is a yuge bonus. And no thousands of T ugly staple holes.

I'll have to try the denatured alcohol.

Magnificent, Sir Schade.
Greetings from Brazil
I have a problem with buckling when I bend strips in with a side set as on your bottom, why?

Mike Savage I have done that, however it introduces the possibility that the deck an hull don't match perfectly. Which would be unfortunate.
Terrific. The boat is looking good!!!! I'm curious what your preferred brand and style of tape is.
The masking tape I use the most is 3M #2060 for "Hard to Stick Surfaces" it sticks well to the wood strips.
Thanks! I appreciate your feedback!!
Why do you place a long strip in the middle and cut both ends?
It saves time to strip beyond the centerline of the boat, then come back and trim off the ends of all the strip all at once exactly to the centerline. I use the long strip to draw that centerline on the bottom of the boat before cutting it.
Loving every minute of this. Does having knotty wood weaken the structure or is it an aesthetic preference?
Knotty wood does not weaken the structure significantly. Most of the strength comes from the glass sandwich. The knots can look really cool.
You seem to be a convert to the hot glue method of building. Is there any situation where you’d still revert to using staples?
Where I want to keep the construction simple

That is part of the trick of choosing the correct glue. It definitely can happen
Cmon.. What type of glue do you use ? I just became a patreon :-) Nick is almost my surname backwords. First name Alfred
If I knew for certain, I would say. The hot glue website is still down.

more Strippers and Stripping, Strips Ahoy! (first)
Cool mechanized video mount. Just noticed it.
You didn't even cove out the edges... very odd you were so maticulous and didnt bother with something so basic and important
