Nice to see alot of material of my home city Kokkola. I´ve been living there over 36 years. Not so much resently becouse i´ve been working in Tampere almost 4 years. Ofcourse it was nice to see scenary from Tampere too and few other places like Oulu. Most of the people doesn´t even know where Kokkola is located or never visited there even here in Finland. Most of the tourists go to Helsinki, Turku, Tampere and Rovaniemi (Santas village is there). Few years (8-12 if i remember right) ago there were much more tourists visiting Kokkola. They were mostly from Germany and Japan.
You are not allowed to collect quite all of "whatever you find in the forest". Collecting berries and mushrooms are allowed (and encouraged), but you can't collect moss, lichen, wood, or anything that would harm the forest without a permission of the owner. This year was very good for lingonberry, collected 10+ liters. Not so good for blueberry, it was too dry during the flowering.
Finland is coffee nation and sauna is our church ... and I'm not modest ... I am aware that my homeland is the best of the best and proud of it... nice to listen your soft voice 😘♥️🇫🇮
@@ATWKate Today we are celebrating our 104 years of independence... corona pandemic changes the form of this day but it's still day of joy and freedom...
Coffee is also a dessert drink in here so most of the time if you eat somekind of dessert, typically pastries like cinnamon buns or pancakes, or anyother in somekind of finnish restaurant, coffee is actually included in price since it's expected that people have it with their dessert. We also drink morning coffee and have typically 2 coffee breaks during 8 hour work day. And it's very typical to actually drink coffee during these breaks since it's a great chance to socialize and fool around with your workmates. Finns usually also socialize and hang around with coffee being the reason for it. If a finn wants to hang around with you they will usually call you and ask "Hi, wanna grab a cup of coffee?" and it's typical to call someone and ask them to make some coffee, because you are coming over. I'd say that Sauna, beer and coffee are the holy triangle of finnish socializing and if you come visit here you should expect it. We also don't drink decaf at all, and you should expect that especially elder people don't even have an idea that such a thing exists.
Hey 😌 thank you! I had s cold back then 😂 so sounded better than usual maybe. Not sure if you have seen the tv sitcom Friends, love it by the way, there is a character Phoebe she sings and when she caught a cold she sounded much better, and was upset when she got better, I felt the same way with my cold 😂
Hi! I have a few questions about Finland. And I need answears quick! I’m applying for a student exchange (erasmus+), and my wish is to go to Finland. I have 4 cities I can go to but I don’t know which one to choose :( I would love to have a good time out, I love sightseeing (as I am studying managment in tourism and hospictality). What place do you recommned? Vaasa, Pori, Tampere or Lahti?
Great video, thank you. Who would have known about the coffee? Concerning Finland being the happiest place, I read about fifteen years ago that Finland had the most suicides per capita in the world. I guess something changed. Does anyone have any insight into this?
Thank you so much! ☺️ I’m happy you liked it! Thank you also for a great meaningful comment. I’m aware of relatively high suicide rate, but I had no idea it was the highest per capita in the world at any point. As to what has changed well a lot, if we take not so recent history Finland fought a bloody war against Stalin and it really drained it. I am so proud of Finnish for fighting such an uneven war. So after there were a bunch reforms, I personally attribute it to a well-organised democracy and great well-fare support, sometimes maybe even a bit too great… not getting into it here. And also maybe most importantly is truly equal opportunity for the youth in Finland schools and universities are free and of consistent quality throughout the country, not like in many other countries only the rich kids get access to decent education. So eventually most Finns grow into well-educated responsible citizens. It’s a virtuous circle they work, open business pay taxes and so on.
You have to be very well educated to believe that you can measure happiness. I'm 7 happy. Finland ranks 35th in suicide per capita, ahead of all other top countries. Apparently, suicide is not an important item in how to measure happiness. Another important thing when measuring happiness is how one perceives corruption in the country, so it is good if people do not know about corruption.
@@MrGunnar69 hello and thank you for sharing your opinion. The corruption is objectively low in Finland that is why it is not perceived as high. Suicide rate is one of the measurements among many! And Finland still ranked number one after a thorough consideration, but I’m just delivering the message if you disagree maybe stating it to UN would be a more effective measure. I myself generally tend to trust the experts on such matters as long as they are creditworthy and uninterested which in case with UN (united nations annual happiness report is done by UN) and not to trust random opinions. Something I wish everyone to follow.

Please say the word SAUNA correctly. It's not a soona, it is pronounced exactly as it is written... sauna. The word is the only international word in the Finnish language and it would be wonderful if it were said correctly :)
It’s English pronunciation so I actually pronounced it in English correctly, but thank you for a suggestion I will maybe try to add more of the Finnish pronunciation in videos about Finland 🇫🇮
@@ATWKate Thank you for the lovely video 🙏... but I agree with Ulla Sofia...let's pronounce 'sauna' the Finnish way - the 'English' pronunciation just sounds so wrong. 🇫🇮💙🇫🇮
Nice video! And at 10:33 mark one of our destinations 🥰 Pedagogy at the beautiful Museum Quarter. We are building a new exhibition in there and it opens next year. So welcome! 😊 Btw. All museum destinations are free to all visitors! ❤
I am finn and I am only happy when I don't have to work nine to five. I hate working. It feels like a slave. Thank God there is booze and anti deprsessants. But weekends I am very happy and also in holiday
