I played this for the first time two weeks ago and finished it yesterday! Amazing how a game from 1995 still holds up in 2022 :D It was really hard but the music is AMAZING
I always love how the Roman in the bush always looks terrified and just sits there after you've blown his cover, I used to just leave him for a few seconds to laugh at him when I was a kid before finishing him off. XD
I think, the SNES had enough time. They still made games, when SATURN and Playstation were on the market. And for this long time, they made also a lot terrible games.
I fully agree with you my friend. Good graphics does not mean good game. Thank God we have emulators and joysticks to play these games as long as we want.
What a great gamem, i love the soundtrack, the graphics and the humor. The only thing i don't like about it is the time limit, it is too strict, should be way, waaay increased or removed entirely.
1:38:35 To the left there's a bottomless pit, with a (respawing!) 1UP suspended over it that you can't get without a suicide jump. However, it's actually working as a 2UP, and you'll end back in the start of the level with an extra life than before the suicide leap. I used to grind this way for lives in preparation for the bull encounter (since the 1UP in the roman camp is much harder to get: you have to time your jump when catapulted above one of the bottomless pits to cancel the jump *and* land on the 1up small platform... and it's one-use, unlike the method in the Act 17 pirate ship)
This game was my childhood, along with Spirou, and the buggy as hell Tintin in Tibet (recall various times I went out of bonds in many levels) :( Too bad a bug prevents the bullfighting final event from being completed in PC versions on resolutions higher than 640x480
I loved this game so much but that part where you play Rugby / Football/whatever always pissed me off because I never understood what to do there. Only way I could get farther was to look up passwords
I play this game before and I like it, it was on the PC instead of the SNES. But the gameplay is quite difficult for me, and I never get pass the first level, or the first two sub-levels.
como se pasa el nivel de los juegos olímpicos nunca pude llenar la barra de carga para que corriera rápido As the level of the Olympic Games is passed, I was never able to fill the loading bar to run fast
Is it just med or was the SNES version alot harder than the PC version of this game? I played this game on PC when i was a child and it was one of my favorite games, then when i got older I downloaded the SNES version to play it on a emulator, but I had alot harder to complete the levels than I had on PC. Obelix (and Asterix) could run faster on PC which probably made it easier :P
For some reason you can run almost twice as fast on PC and jump a little bit higher. Because I grew up with that version, the SNES version feels super hard in comparison. Otherwise the SNES version looks a little bit more polished and better overall. Some of the bonuslevels are different too.
I remember enjoying this game in Co-op on SNES, but the controls were horrible imo (A for attack, no option to change, should've been Y) and the game was hard as hell too...
That's button mashing, not cheating (cheating would be when he forces the game to give him infinite lives/health/jump height/invincibility). If you play on real hardware, get a turbo controller. If you use an emulator with the SNES version, you can assign a button for that. If you play the PC version (like I learned the hard way), it's actually acknowledged by the devs to be too fast to be possible on resolutions higher than 640x480. It's a bad port and crashes often on the Egypt level. If you play the GBA version, I think they made it *slightly* easier but still requiring copious amounts of button mashing... and they removed the Egypt levels (one of the better-looking levels) and replaced it with a new set of levels set in Mesopotamia that don't look quite as good. Also, for the PC and GBA ports, the music is far worse.
I had no idea this game ever existed, for a really long time, possibly that it never made it to North America ( USA, Mexico and Canada ) but my entire family always loved the comic books, it's not the same anymore without Goscinny and Uderzo, after both passed away, at least the movies are still around... Obelix was always really funny, as long as there's a good numbers of Roman Legions to beat them up for fun and roasted Wild Boar....
Man, I have some livid memories of this game... mainly failing horribly at dodging the rocks in the first/second stage. I also imagined the Londonium to be near the end of the game, but you're telling me it's actually just the first act?! Damn, we must have sucked back in the day. I remember owning a Playstation game of Asterix. Mainly the parts of brewing potions, attacking nearby lands and occasinally playing a beat-em-up / dumb minigame to unlock the items needed to progress. Also, why did *every* save cost two memory card slots? Damn, I'm starting to feel old again... I need to stop going this deep down the memory lane.
Olympic stage was like a torment for fingers.
Fucking A it was!!!
Y yo que lo jugue con teclado en pc
One could build something with a Lego motor and some tooth wheels.
Man, it was.
Never got past the hurdles as a kid and my SNES and my copy of the game are long gone. Kid me needed the money 😅
That soundtrack. I almost forgot about this gem.
I love how you can see the Roman soldiers fly away and then land in the distance. Nice detail! xD
I was just about to say that!
I was already laughing my bum off at how the little guys simply rocket off the screen after one swipe, now I'm laughing even more.
It's the same equivalent as Crash Bandicoot spinning the enemies off the screen.
This game was so fukin hard ._.
Yepp! I never got past the ship level as a kid xD
Me too reason is i didnt knos controls
I grew up with the PC version and it was actually alot easier due to faster running speed and able to do a little higher jumps.

ah, the memories! When I was a kid i used to love this game and the rugby match, altough it was very difficult!
I loved the rugby match too. Challenging, but very fun to do. I abselutely hated the button mashing at the olympics part.
never came so far as a kid :(

Why actually?
@@hisokamorow3611 probably because children aren't inherently min/maxing speed runners (at least not at first)
@@micshaz for me the asterix and obelix game was too hard as a kid, i played it at a friend and was very bad at it, i was 4 or 5 tho back then
This game was super hard. That epic music, though...
very weird to watch this back and still remembering everything after +10 years :D
I remember everything too. Might be 18-20 years
Asterix and Obelix what a nostalgia game with nice soundtrack lol :3
After nearly a decade i found my childhood game😍😍😍
16:35 loved the soundtrack in the streets of London Level so much as a kid! Still awesome today 💪
I think SNES didnt get enough time to generate more games like this. It was a great console.
yup
I think, the SNES had enough time. They still made games, when SATURN and Playstation were on the market. And for this long time, they made also a lot terrible games.
I had the version for the GBA (Bundled with Asterix and Cleopatra and Asterix XXL).
I never knew until now that it was from the SNES.
Omg these old games touched my heart....way better than new games😟😞😥

The best Asterix game of my childhood and the best music above all other Asterix games (then and now).
Not the best Asterix-game I have ever seen. I think, the 1st part on the Master System was great.

04:23. OK, I never knew there is a bonus level after completing the first sub-level.
+Isaac Adam There is a bonus level after every level (except the last one of each land), but you only can play it if you collect all 10 stars.

Good old days. I remember how much I played this... but I always went with Asterix.
I had a similiar Asterix game for my gameboy color - loved that game.

Great soundtrack. Remember it since kid. 😊❤
8:25 this part truly was my childhood roadblock. If the ship level didn't killed us, then these quick and precise jumps would.
What? Why does this game have such a great soundtrack!?
Because Alberto José Gonzalez :)
This have some mood...funny,well drawed and details :-)

Alberto José Gonzalez's music in this game is awesome ^^
and he was just 22 or 23 when he composed the music!

I assume many Game Boys died that day.
I had the original Asterix on Game Boy and that one already was pretty hard, never finished it...

+Weedsilla i had the game in game boy color, it was a bit different and i think not so difficult
+TheSSSdriver If think you had problems, I had the misfortune to play the Genesis/Mega Drive Asterix game, now that game was god-awful.
