This and Spiderland are so different from each other that it doesn't make any sense to compare them, let's just be glad Slint made two albums before they split up!
"Steve! These headphones are fucked up! It's only coming out of one side, like- Should I just bear with it or what? Shit, they're fucked.....Man, no wait. Please give us some new headphones." lolololololol
I think I like it more than Spiderland tbh. Spiderland makes me feel weird after listening to it, can't exactly put my finger on it.. Great album regardless though.
I first heard this in the summer of 1989, driving past a town called Weed off Highway 5 between San Francisco and Seattle. It had just been released and I have never forgotten it's totally unique sound. I still prefer it to Spiderland.
Godamn those Albini-mic'd drums on Pat! Amazing. Shades of Hated Chinee. That reopening at 24:22. Incredible. And that run up and smash at 25:38 (repeated a few times in that segment). Also on Rhoda, 28:26 onwards.
Got to hold my hands up and say until tonight never heard of this band. Had youtube playing in the background while drinking and this came on auto play. Never heard of them but im listening now
RIP Steve Albini. An alltime musical hero from the day I bought Big Black's Songs About Fucking on vinly when I was 16. I am now 50 and still have that record. Only the other day I was talking to my 16 year old about him and his production work with Pixies and Nirvana. Tweez sounds better than Spiderland. Gutted.
This comment may be a little late but I really like how they remastered "Rhoda" in the EP they did. Listening to the original makes me appreciate them a lot.
All I can say about SLINT is who ever or how ever these kids understood the opinions of the ignorant are designed to be exploited by the intelligent is mind boggling......
You Eric Lamar, Spiderland is just brilliant!! It's one thing to werite music that sounds different, it's another to write a whole album that gels like Spiderland does. As a muso it's really different and rewarding to learn those many harmonics and alternate timings. Tweez is great but if Slint is mentioned ever in like 20 years it will be in the same breath as "Spiderland" - as has been the case thus far. Yeah, for sure. You should check out the documentary 'Bread Crumb Trail" about Slint, it goes into depth about all of these recordings. They were big fans of Steve Albini, which is why they wanted him to record it, but were really disappointed in this album because of his influence on the recording. Steve actually feels pretty bad about it now. They were literally children at the time of making Tweez, even Spiderland were insanely young. I still love Tweez and everything this band and it's members did afterwards.

Steve, these headphones are fucked they're only coming out on one side Also, I'm guessing most already know this, but the "Steve" mentioned is Steve Albini, sound engineer for this album who fronted Big Black, Rapeman, and Shellac, and also produced Surfer Rosa for The Pixies and In Utero by Nirvana
Nahh. He claims to have engineered over 1500 albums, I was just giving some of the most notable examples. Others include Goat by the Jesus Lizard, Pod by the Breeders, Rid Of Me by PJ Harvey, an album for Page and Plant, and most recently Ty Segall's self titled. in a sense slint has a similar atheistic and playing style, obviously they are in different genres but I can see where your coming from.. burzum is definitely more realistically 'spooky,' but slint is lyrically and psychologically way more 'spooky' then burzum. that cold, isolated, loose, yet powerful feeling you get from burzum is reminiscent in slint as well.
