Cruised on Epic on 03 August 2023. Tenth cruise I have been on and definitely the worst ever. Entertainment was disappointing. We had 4 specialty dining nights and all were not impressive. Balcony room without a bathroom is really strange. Beds are short and your legs hang over if you are 6 feet tall. Jogging deck is a joke, it does not go all the way around the ship. Ports in Italy and Spain were very dirty and high tourist areas, we found none of them to be impressive. Nothing was memorable about this cruise, my advice is to avoid it. Drink lines were very long and they never asked you what you wanted to drink. Taxes on drinks are crazy high and are applied at all times (not just in ports). No comedians on board was a big let down. I would have rather stayed home then gone on this cruise. Everything shuts down early at night, hot tubs are lousy, ship is crowded. I will not cruise NCL again after this experience. NCL is going down hill fast, stay away if you can. Your review was pretty accurate, thanks for posting it.
I cruised for 10 days just two months ago. I agree with your review. Even the food in the specialty restaurants was disapointing. I did enjoy Le Bistro. I thought the food in the two main dining rooms was only average at best. They didn't enfore their own dress code in the Manhattan room. My room steward was great. I told him he was too good for NCL. The ship had paint peeling all over the place. Rude people at the excursion desk. Never again on NCL. Thanks for your review.
It’s pretty comical you’re complaining about crowded tourist areas yet you’re coming off a 3000+ cruise ship capacity. Maybe it was you guys that made it crowded 🤷🏻♀️
If you dont like crowded ships then go with the smaller cruiseline with smaller capacity to cater people, since NCL Epic has the capacity of more than 4000 guests,
I’m here now 08/26/24 The ship is worse ever. They taking away sunbeds from pool area at 7 even if people wants to stay. They taking away Cushing from outside sofas!!!! Why??? Where We should to sit? No schedule regarding sport area! I have a kid 3y.o. - lifeguard banned to swim in regular pool, just in kids pool, but kids pool for 1-2 y.o. Kids! We will never choose NCL again.
I feel the Epic is a beautiful ship. Yes, things have been trim down with turn down, but the food and service is great. We went on the 11 day mediterranean cruise at the end of August. We only had a sea day in the beginning and end. This ship is perfect for a Port Intensive Itinerary. The storage and closet space is amazing for such a long itinerary. A person is barely in the room but to sleep and it is so nice to come back to the air conditioned ship and take cool shower before a delicious dinner. People make such a big thing about the bathrooms. Its frosted glass from top to bottom. We had no problems with any above average odors even if a wooden door had been present. Poopotpourri, and a courtesy flush goes a long way 😂. Can't wait for Prima in February!
Great review of this ship. Crazy bathroom set up... no privacy at all... it did need some reprairs thats for sure, we always get balconies as well, its well worth it to be able to have quiet time out on your own balcony and enjoy the views 😄

Thanks for your video, always good to see what others think...we just returned from a 10 day Mediterranean Cruise on the Epic and we absolutely loved it! Great food, good entertainment, loved the comedienne...went twice...missed the juggler, but saw a broadway foursome...that was really good! Duelling pianos also very good, as was the magician. Loved our room, cozy but all you needed, nice shower...room was always tidied up nicely. We found our way around quickly and it was a lovely floating hotel after our shore excursions. We enjoyed it immensely and would not hesitate to go on another with NCL... maybe Alaska.
Glad to hear you guys had a great trip! It's been quite sometime since we made the video, glad to hear things are improving on the Epic. It's suppose to go into refurbishment in April 2025, we may try it again after that, maybe a caribbean cruise.
Sailed the Epic December 2024 in a balcony stateroom. It's an older ship. The bathroom and shower are very tight and that was a negative. The ship felt very crowded at times - long lines at bars and getting into dinner. Positives: all of the staff was awesome and accommodating. They were the best. My wife and I both enjoyed all of the food. Overall, though, we had a great time. No cruise is perfect.
I'm hopefully going on a cruise to Italy and Greece on this ship next year. It'll be my first cruise ever. We were supposed to be going in April 2025 but they canceled and pushed us back to May 2025 because the ship will be in dry dock. Maybe that will turn out to be a blessing because hopefully they'll fix some of the issues you mentioned. We're only going to have 1 full day at sea and I want to spend as much time as possible exploring the ports, so I'm not too worried about lack of entertainment on the ship. I'm not much of a night owl anyway.
That is the nice thing about European cruises, it's more about the ports and definitely made our trip. We've had comments from people who have been on the Epic more recently and they had a good time... No one has said if they've cleaned anything up so you'll have to let us know!

Greg and I were just talking about how we would love to go on a Norweigan Cruise someday as its a line we haven ever been on, so I'm really glad I watched this. Thanks for sharing the room tour. I've never seen the open bathroom before, wow I'm glad that's not common, I would hate that so much lol. Too bad the hot water runs out a bit. The balcony is sooo worth it though. Beautiful! We are going on the Epic in November. Thank for the heads up on thing's. Your Western Med cruises sounds like the MSC Western Med cruise we took in April. What's weard? We didn't pay extra tax on drinks. Maybe it's because of the ships registry was in Italy.

This is a ship I loved. Been on it 6 times, all Caribbean. I was happy with the buffet. They had lots of variety. This was 8 to 10 years ago. My entertainment was Legends in Concert (Adele and Steven Tyler ) and Blueman group.
Oh wow, that would have been awesome to see the blue man group on board! We've heard the Caribbean cruises are different from the Mediterranean. We may try the Epic again after it's refurbishment and maybe for a Caribbean cruise to compare the experiences.

Hi Robert and Gina, a very thorough review, anyone wanting to book will see what they're getting (or not). We've never really thought about a cruise ship, our elderly neighbour loves them and takes at least two per year. Great video.
Interesting to see your warts and all view of the cruise ship experience. It did look very crowded for the most part. I think I would have found the cabin a bit claustrophobic myself. That balcony would have been a lifesaver. I still look at the size of these ships with amazement and am sure that it would have been a brilliant experience.
Even though the ship was completely booked, it rarely felt crowded. The balcony was a great upgrade and really helped with having 3 people in the room. Thanks for cruising with us!
Pretty thorough review of this ship. Looks like it was overall a pretty good ship with plenty of amenities. Looks like the wear and tear has taken its toll in some areas. Just needs a bit of maintenance. We love cruising and agree that the balcony is the only way to go for the room. We always book with a balcony. The entertainment is typically nothing to look forward to but our last cruise with RCCL really had the best entertainment of all cruises we have been on yet. Maybe they are stepping it up to meet customer demands. I hope you had a great time. Have a great day.
The Epic definitely needs some TLC, over all we still had a great cruise and really glad we went. Italy was amazing! Does RCCL have an upgrade system like NCL with an auction? That was a big discount on the balcony room and so glad we got it.
@@HereToCheers I'm not aware of an auction system but they do give upgrade/category upgrades to past guests. Typically we cruise with Carnival and we get the upgrades when we cruise with them since we have cruised with them about a dozen times already. We currently have 2 itineraries booked with them for 2024. We are excited to cruise again.
We booked a short cruise on Carnival, just a weekend getaway in January. that's as far as we've gotten into 2024. You guys going to vlog your cruise experience or you taking some time away from the camera?

Also had to add a funny story about an "open" bathroom design. Years ago I went on a dive trip to Mexico with a dive club I had just recently joined. Being a solo female I was roomed with the only other solo female on the trip. We had met at least once before. It was kind of a fancy place (to me) where someone walks you to your room. We walk in behind him and there sits the glass shower...out in the room...next to the beds. No frosted glass or curtain or anything. I looked at her, she looked at me and then we both started cracking up laughing. I think the guy thought we were a couple at first because he seemed confused, but then realization dawned on his face and he laughed with us. We made it work though. When she took a shower I went out on the balcony and closed that curtain and she did the same for me.
LoL Yes, we do not get this trend of glass bathroom walls! Even as a couple we don't need to see everything let alone traveling with friends, family or someone you just met LoL Good thing you both had a sense of humor about it 😁😁
I'm doing the Norwegian Epic Western Mediterranean cruise about the Epic in September 2024. Hopefully some of the issues you pointed out will be addressed by then, but if not we are prepared to make the best of it. Thanks for posting this review.

I've never sailed ncl, but am going on my first solo next year. I too plan on making my trip the best and will power through any issues, which is not a problem for me, been doing it all my life, so I'm good.

Yeah sharing a room on the Epic will be rough. either get your own cabin or other viewers have suggest bring a product called poo pourri to help with the bathroom situation. We haven't tried Princess yet but we've hard good things.
Thank you for the well-balanced review! I went on NCL Encore in August, and the two ships are like night and day! Encore was beautiful, clean, shiny, and well maintained in all areas. The staff, food, and entertainment were all five-star. I've been invited on a cruise on Epic and was excited based on my Encore experience. However, I was concerned about the bathroom set up shown on the floor plans on the web site. When called, customer service said the bathrooms were all privately enclosed. Thank you for confirming they are an issue! I'll probably still go but I will definitely reset my expectations, and I won't count NCL out entirely based on one ship.
We'd love to hear how your cruise on the Epic goes, hopefully they've cleaned some things up by now. We might try the Epic again after it's 2025 refurbishment just to see but we know they won't be changing the bathrooms. We haven't given up on NCL as a cruise line, we'll have to check out the Encore sometime.
We've learned that the ship is pretty different depending on the sailing. So what they do in Europe is different than when they're sailing the caribbean.
Oh my good lord i never just how high the level of entertainment is available on these cruises! They really do operate like their own little cities don't they? I've never been on one myself, but after looking at this one, I might be tempted!

The Epic was first launched in 2009, it had a refurbishment in 2015, so this is 8 years of wear and tear. It's over due for some work. I guess going forward we'll have to check when a ship was last in dry dock before booking it. thanks for cruising with us guys!
Oh no! I'm going on the Epic in February and this is making me a big nervous. We are doing a Caribbean cruise and just had a Royal Cruise that was awesome despite missing a port due to weather. Glad to hear the food overall was good and the bar tenders friendly - those are key. Not really looking forward to our weird balcony room - although I'm a fan of the balcony rooms generally on NCL. I made my dining reservations as soon as they opened since we booked so far in advance. I always enjoy the fish and chips at O'Sheehans. Thanks for this overview. Don’t be nervous. My family and myself were first time cruisers on this same cruise in August and had a great time…..so much so that we booked another for next August while on board. Some of the ‘ugly’ issues raised in this review are incredibly picky. If you don’t feel the need to be ‘entertained’ every night then the entertainment provided was just fine (and I like the Beatles by the way, and saw the band play four time during our trip - my only complaint was that they didn’t play for long enough). Yes the toilet and shower could have been more private, but there is a curtain that can be pulled across to offer more privacy and my family of four sharing the same cabin seemed to cope fine. And re. The location of the noodle bar next to the casino and slots, you wouldn’t know they were there when you’re in the restaurant…..you can’t hear a peep from them. My main criticism would be the cost of the ship organised excursions - not touched on in the review. They are hideously over priced for what they are. If you are prepared to do a little bit of prep / research before going you can saved hundreds of dollars. For a coach trip from Livorno to Florence they wanted around 200 dollars each. We got a taxi to the train station and the local train there and back for less than a quarter of this. And got more time in Florence. Avoid these like the plague.

If you like the Broadway type shows get in line for Burn the Floor really early, 45 minutes before. It always filled up. The best entertainment was Howl at the Moon. If you've booked excursions through NCL you should be ok. If you're doing your own thing remember in Cannes you have to Tender into port, this can take hours so don't plan on being in port in the morning; Make sure you know how to get through Livorno to Pisa/Florence or where ever you might be going, same with Civitavecchia and Rome. We're still working on our port review video, wish we had it ready to go for you. Most importantly have fun!
We found the bars were crowded but the bar in the buffet room was great, no line ups. You could walk right up and get any drink you wanted. We like the adult pool area the best. Nice and calm compared to the main pool area where you could never find a seat. Make sure you put the DO NOT DISTURB on your door when you want to use the bathroom or shower. 😂
It looks like an awesome ship, but really interesting to see your review as we are interested in sailing with NCL in the future. All the food options look great. The sports bar looks cool too.
New subs here. We haven’t been on NCL in 15 years. We used to think it was a great line when we had teenagers. That open bathroom is a little weird. Your video is enough to make us think we don’t need to try it again. New subs here.

Much appreciated the quick pace of clips rather than watching someone talk in their room or worse bounce around as they do one long take walking deck to deck. Am sorry that this NCL ship was such a disappointment. That bathroom arrangement is crazy! Makes me wonder if Epic was originally built for some other market where this is preferred. What embarkation port did you start cruise from? We did our first cruise in August on HAL to Alaska and loved it! Booked on NCL Bliss for Dec 5 day Mex Riviera, wanting to try the big ship experience, and hoping it’s the best of HAL with the show entertainment NCL is known for. Thanks again!
We cruised out of Barcelona. there was the option to sail from Rome and we're glad we went with Barcelona. We saw people traveling to and from the cruise port on the train to Rome with all their luggage and it looked tedious. If we sail out of Rome we'll avoid the train and get a shuttle service or something. We haven't given up on NCL, so we'd love to hear about your trip on the Bliss! What ship did you sail on for you HAL to Alaska? We've been looking to do an Alaskan cruise.
That was a well done review of your experience. I haven't been on one before so very interesting to hear the positives and negatives. I agree we were part of the problem since we brought 3,000 plus passengers to already crowded ports. Smaller ships with smaller ports is what we will try next.
We've heard the Caribbean cruise is much different than the European as far as the on board experience goes. We get mixed comments on the current state of the Epic. Some people say it's gotten better other say it's gotten worse 😬 We hope you have the best cruise and are able to have a great time with who ever you're going with. Let us know how it goes!

Thank for cruising with us! We've been looking into ours next cruise, reading reviews and talking to agents and it really seems like cruise lines are putting everything into their new huge ships and the smaller ships are suffering. But the ports were great and that's what really matter to us.
Epic will be my first ncl and solo cruise. I'm saving a lot of money through my travel agent. I'm looking forward to it and I am flexible when it comes to cruising.
It definitely won't be so bad as a solo cruiser. And we've heard from people on more recent sailings say it's gotten better. We hope you have a wonderful cruise and come back to let us know how it goes!
Wow, we were on the Epic in 2020 just before the shutdown. Our experience was totally different. Lots of great entertainment. The bathroom situation was so bad, even for a couple. We found the room very squishy compared to other staterooms we had. The food was excellent. We had mostly speciality dinners which were part of our package. I do not think we will be cruising for quite a while until things get better. You pay way more for way less. So sad.😢
Sadly that seems to be the case. We would try the Epic again after it's refurbishment and maybe it's different when it's in the Caribbean. Was your cruise in Europe or the Caribbean?
We've heard cruising is different in Europe compared to the Caribbean. This was our first European cruise so it's hard for us to say. But it make sense for the cruise lines to cater to different clientele based on region.

Just finished a December 23 sixteen day Mediterranean and transatlantic cruise on the Epic. We were a group of three and we all were very disappointed with the ship. As pointed out by many, the balcony cabins without an actual bathroom was weird. The beds are short, the cabin is cramped. For the first time (this was my fifth cruise) I found some very rude staff on visits to the dining room. If our group of three, one of whom did not speak English, did not wish to share a table since that person would be left out, we were at times put off to the side to wait though the dining room had tables for four available and some of those tables had couples at them or even single diners. Even a polite request for jam to go with an English muffin was rebuffed, the wait person saying jam was not available in the dining rooms which is a blatant lie. At times the bread plate was useless in that they never offered the bread to put on it. Never again.

We’ve seen that ship in port numerous times, so it was interesting to have a look around. It does look huge. This was a great review. Really honest. I think this ship is a bit big for us. We didn’t like the bathroom layout out. The food did look good and there seems to be a wide variety. Shame that the entertainment wasn’t as wow as the ship. Great review. 🍻

35 active male, non drinker, get the spa pass after hiking and climbing on your excursions the sauna is a great way to relax the muscles and cool down on the back deck watching the port disappear with your wife is magical. The manhattan, taste and the garden cafe are free and as good quality as anything else, just after you get your food put it on your table and wash your hands. The gym is good, the beds are comfortable I had a studio suite, with a double bed and no balcony. I used the balconies upstairs and in the spa. Bring some clothes pins to claim a chair on the pool deck and mix your water with ice and a splash of lemonade in your insulated thermal beverage holder and you're all set. I mean are you going to enjoy the ship or enjoy the excursions? I went to for the excursions and ate and went to the spa and sunbathed if possible. I'm not a fan of public pools or hottubs. It's what you make of it if your attitude is fun loving you will love it. If your attitude is critical you won't enjoy it.

This is my first time going on NCL I've only gone on MSC but i won a "FREE Cruise" with Casinos at Sea, with Free at sea included you just had to pay for port fees & admin Fee's but i am Very scared going on NCL Epic after watching this Video lol Thank you! for this video.. i might just upgrade my stateroom to the Haven.

So sad. I've been on Epic twice. When it launched it had the best entertainment at sea. Blue Man, Legends in Concert and Cirque Dreams all Vegas style acts.
Justin is Gina's son. He's only been on camera once during one of the disney christmas videos. We do a bit of traveling with family, I just don't subject them to being on camera 😁
I've never been on a cruise and never really fancied it. I guess it's being stuck with all those people. Sounds like I couldn't even crash out in comfy seats unless I was willing to listen to ping pong being played. The showers also sound a bit rough having to time it right to get a hot one. A honest review and it didn't make me think I should go out and book a cruise. I wonder what happened to the underwear. Did someone end up going commando 😂
It's not for everyone, had this been our first cruise experience it might not be for us either LoL We like to think a crew member got the underwear and it's not floating around the ocean, but if we ever see a tiktok of a sea turtle wearing tighty whities we'll know 😁😁

😲😲 Oh wow, yes glad we could be of help. We watched several videos about the Epic and people complained about the bathroom design and that was it. No one complained about the dirtiness or entertainment. This cruise is the most time we've spent in a cabin watching TV. Hopefully you can find another cruise and have a much better experience than we did.
I don't think I can jog and breathe foul smell. Those runners must be breathing through their mouths, lol. Very detailed review. The hot tub does look gross, and to think you pay a good amount of money for a cruise like this. Take care, and have a great weekend.

Most People either love or hate the Epic. I did love the ship but I do understand why a lot of People don’t like the ship. I love the food and the Entertainment . It’s a oddly made design ship.
A few people are saying they have a good time on the Epic. We hope you do! Maybe for the transalantic they bring more entertainment on board. The food was good, check out the howl at the moon, some people have said they spent every night at the Beatles show... 🙏 We hope you have a great time with your friends/family, let us know how it goes!

Worst cruise ship I have ever cruised on. Eleven days of pure torture. This ship feels like a dark, dank, dirty, seedy two-star Las Vegas Casino, only in Pahrump, NV. The food was horrible, the crew were constantly angry, often agitating passengers. My check in was botched, my app never worked, my name was wrong, all my excursions were cancelled for no reason "call Miami" not our problem. The worst of all of these issues is you can't see the ocean on this ship unless you have a balcony. You will not find anywhere on the ship to relax and enjoy the ocean unless you want to gamble. The layout of the ship could not accommodate the masses and with only two elevator sets on the ship it would often get aggressive. The crew was ill-equipped to handle moving the masses during excursions, events, etc. It constantly felt like walking around Disneyland at peak season. This felt like a low budget cruise carrier! First and last time on NCL
OMG we're so sorry, what a nightmare! 😲😲 We thought our cruise was bad, this just sounds horrible. Maybe NCL is in bigger trouble than we thought. We're still open to trying them but we're going to give them some time. The only bright side is this might make your next cruise seem a whole lot better. So sorry friend!
Yeah... unless it's great deal or some ports you can't find with another ship, skip it for now. We might try it again after it's refurbishment if we can get a good deal just to see if it helps any.
Thanks for the thorough review. I think Epic was NCL's first attempt at a large ship. They needed to have this ship to develop the Breakaway Class. Also, I have to say this in response to "Robert, didn't want to be bothered to put on pants to eat." Seriously? It is fun and elegant to dress up for dinner on a cruise ship, even on NCL I always wear a suit or a tuxedo in the evening. It would be nice if more guests made an effort to dress formally for dinner in the main dining room and at the specialty restaurants. NCL's freestyle concept is great, but they really need to tighten up the dress code. It is not much to ask men to at least have a collard shirt and slacks in the main dining rooms, and a jacket and slacks in specialty dining rooms.

It seems rather odd that a grown man would not want to put big boy pants on for this cruise for just a few hours during a trip. In addition to the narrator's negative comments, why did you not tell your server to hold the salt so that you could salt your own soup? No soup for you!
Well Robby it's called humor and Gina was just making a joke from one night when we were deciding where to eat after walking around in port all day, I was to tired to go back to the room and change just to get the same food we could get from the other dining room, as is. We do typically have at least one nice dinner while on the cruise at a restaurant we have to pay extra for and will dress up for that.

Cruised on Epic on 03 August 2023. Tenth cruise I have been on and definitely the worst ever. Entertainment was disappointing. We had 4 specialty dining nights and all were not impressive. Balcony room without a bathroom is really strange. Beds are short and your legs hang over if you are 6 feet tall. Jogging deck is a joke, it does not go all the way around the ship. Ports in Italy and Spain were very dirty and high tourist areas, we found none of them to be impressive. Nothing was memorable about this cruise, my advice is to avoid it. Drink lines were very long and they never asked you what you wanted to drink. Taxes on drinks are crazy high and are applied at all times (not just in ports). No comedians on board was a big let down. I would have rather stayed home then gone on this cruise. Everything shuts down early at night, hot tubs are lousy, ship is crowded. I will not cruise NCL again after this experience. NCL is going down hill fast, stay away if you can. Your review was pretty accurate, thanks for posting it.
I cruised for 10 days just two months ago. I agree with your review. Even the food in the specialty restaurants was disapointing. I did enjoy Le Bistro. I thought the food in the two main dining rooms was only average at best. They didn't enfore their own dress code in the Manhattan room. My room steward was great. I told him he was too good for NCL. The ship had paint peeling all over the place. Rude people at the excursion desk. Never again on NCL. Thanks for your review.
It’s pretty comical you’re complaining about crowded tourist areas yet you’re coming off a 3000+ cruise ship capacity. Maybe it was you guys that made it crowded 🤷🏻♀️
If you dont like crowded ships then go with the smaller cruiseline with smaller capacity to cater people, since NCL Epic has the capacity of more than 4000 guests,
And NCL dress code is very minimal. I like when people put some effort into dressing up a bit.@therealunclep

I have a kid 3y.o. - lifeguard banned to swim in regular pool, just in kids pool, but kids pool for 1-2 y.o. Kids! We will never choose NCL again.
I feel the Epic is a beautiful ship. Yes, things have been trim down with turn down, but the food and service is great. We went on the 11 day mediterranean cruise at the end of August. We only had a sea day in the beginning and end. This ship is perfect for a Port Intensive Itinerary. The storage and closet space is amazing for such a long itinerary. A person is barely in the room but to sleep and it is so nice to come back to the air conditioned ship and take cool shower before a delicious dinner.
People make such a big thing about the bathrooms. Its frosted glass from top to bottom. We had no problems with any above average odors even if a wooden door had been present. Poopotpourri, and a courtesy flush goes a long way 😂. Can't wait for Prima in February!
It is the ugliest vessel I've ever been on, I was on the Maiden Transatlantic Crossing!
Great review of this ship. Crazy bathroom set up... no privacy at all... it did need some reprairs thats for sure, we always get balconies as well, its well worth it to be able to have quiet time out on your own balcony and enjoy the views 😄

Thanks for your video, always good to see what others think...we just returned from a 10 day Mediterranean Cruise on the Epic and we absolutely loved it! Great food, good entertainment, loved the comedienne...went twice...missed the juggler, but saw a broadway foursome...that was really good! Duelling pianos also very good, as was the magician. Loved our room, cozy but all you needed, nice shower...room was always tidied up nicely. We found our way around quickly and it was a lovely floating hotel after our shore excursions. We enjoyed it immensely and would not hesitate to go on another with NCL... maybe Alaska.
Glad to hear you guys had a great trip! It's been quite sometime since we made the video, glad to hear things are improving on the Epic. It's suppose to go into refurbishment in April 2025, we may try it again after that, maybe a caribbean cruise.
Sailed the Epic December 2024 in a balcony stateroom. It's an older ship. The bathroom and shower are very tight and that was a negative. The ship felt very crowded at times - long lines at bars and getting into dinner. Positives: all of the staff was awesome and accommodating. They were the best. My wife and I both enjoyed all of the food. Overall, though, we had a great time. No cruise is perfect.
I'm hopefully going on a cruise to Italy and Greece on this ship next year. It'll be my first cruise ever. We were supposed to be going in April 2025 but they canceled and pushed us back to May 2025 because the ship will be in dry dock. Maybe that will turn out to be a blessing because hopefully they'll fix some of the issues you mentioned. We're only going to have 1 full day at sea and I want to spend as much time as possible exploring the ports, so I'm not too worried about lack of entertainment on the ship. I'm not much of a night owl anyway.
That is the nice thing about European cruises, it's more about the ports and definitely made our trip. We've had comments from people who have been on the Epic more recently and they had a good time... No one has said if they've cleaned anything up so you'll have to let us know!

Your Western Med cruises sounds like the MSC Western Med cruise we took in April. What's weard? We didn't pay extra tax on drinks. Maybe it's because of the ships registry was in Italy.

This is a ship I loved. Been on it 6 times, all Caribbean. I was happy with the buffet. They had lots of variety. This was 8 to 10 years ago.
My entertainment was Legends in Concert (Adele and Steven Tyler ) and Blueman group.
Oh wow, that would have been awesome to see the blue man group on board! We've heard the Caribbean cruises are different from the Mediterranean. We may try the Epic again after it's refurbishment and maybe for a Caribbean cruise to compare the experiences.

Hi Robert and Gina, a very thorough review, anyone wanting to book will see what they're getting (or not). We've never really thought about a cruise ship, our elderly neighbour loves them and takes at least two per year. Great video.
Interesting to see your warts and all view of the cruise ship experience. It did look very crowded for the most part. I think I would have found the cabin a bit claustrophobic myself. That balcony would have been a lifesaver. I still look at the size of these ships with amazement and am sure that it would have been a brilliant experience.
Even though the ship was completely booked, it rarely felt crowded. The balcony was a great upgrade and really helped with having 3 people in the room. Thanks for cruising with us!

Pretty thorough review of this ship. Looks like it was overall a pretty good ship with plenty of amenities. Looks like the wear and tear has taken its toll in some areas. Just needs a bit of maintenance. We love cruising and agree that the balcony is the only way to go for the room. We always book with a balcony. The entertainment is typically nothing to look forward to but our last cruise with RCCL really had the best entertainment of all cruises we have been on yet. Maybe they are stepping it up to meet customer demands. I hope you had a great time. Have a great day.
The Epic definitely needs some TLC, over all we still had a great cruise and really glad we went. Italy was amazing! Does RCCL have an upgrade system like NCL with an auction? That was a big discount on the balcony room and so glad we got it.
@@HereToCheers I'm not aware of an auction system but they do give upgrade/category upgrades to past guests. Typically we cruise with Carnival and we get the upgrades when we cruise with them since we have cruised with them about a dozen times already. We currently have 2 itineraries booked with them for 2024. We are excited to cruise again.

Also had to add a funny story about an "open" bathroom design. Years ago I went on a dive trip to Mexico with a dive club I had just recently joined. Being a solo female I was roomed with the only other solo female on the trip. We had met at least once before. It was kind of a fancy place (to me) where someone walks you to your room. We walk in behind him and there sits the glass shower...out in the room...next to the beds. No frosted glass or curtain or anything. I looked at her, she looked at me and then we both started cracking up laughing. I think the guy thought we were a couple at first because he seemed confused, but then realization dawned on his face and he laughed with us. We made it work though. When she took a shower I went out on the balcony and closed that curtain and she did the same for me.
LoL Yes, we do not get this trend of glass bathroom walls! Even as a couple we don't need to see everything let alone traveling with friends, family or someone you just met LoL Good thing you both had a sense of humor about it 😁😁

I've never sailed ncl, but am going on my first solo next year. I too plan on making my trip the best and will power through any issues, which is not a problem for me, been doing it all my life, so I'm good.

Yeah sharing a room on the Epic will be rough. either get your own cabin or other viewers have suggest bring a product called poo pourri to help with the bathroom situation. We haven't tried Princess yet but we've hard good things.

Thank you for the well-balanced review! I went on NCL Encore in August, and the two ships are like night and day! Encore was beautiful, clean, shiny, and well maintained in all areas. The staff, food, and entertainment were all five-star. I've been invited on a cruise on Epic and was excited based on my Encore experience. However, I was concerned about the bathroom set up shown on the floor plans on the web site. When called, customer service said the bathrooms were all privately enclosed. Thank you for confirming they are an issue! I'll probably still go but I will definitely reset my expectations, and I won't count NCL out entirely based on one ship.
We'd love to hear how your cruise on the Epic goes, hopefully they've cleaned some things up by now. We might try the Epic again after it's 2025 refurbishment just to see but we know they won't be changing the bathrooms. We haven't given up on NCL as a cruise line, we'll have to check out the Encore sometime.

I remember that crusieships used to have midnight buffets which were open late in the night for the night owls and people dancing in the clubs.
We've learned that the ship is pretty different depending on the sailing. So what they do in Europe is different than when they're sailing the caribbean.
Oh my good lord i never just how high the level of entertainment is available on these cruises! They really do operate like their own little cities don't they? I've never been on one myself, but after looking at this one, I might be tempted!

The Epic was first launched in 2009, it had a refurbishment in 2015, so this is 8 years of wear and tear. It's over due for some work. I guess going forward we'll have to check when a ship was last in dry dock before booking it. thanks for cruising with us guys!
Oh no! I'm going on the Epic in February and this is making me a big nervous. We are doing a Caribbean cruise and just had a Royal Cruise that was awesome despite missing a port due to weather. Glad to hear the food overall was good and the bar tenders friendly - those are key. Not really looking forward to our weird balcony room - although I'm a fan of the balcony rooms generally on NCL. I made my dining reservations as soon as they opened since we booked so far in advance. I always enjoy the fish and chips at O'Sheehans. Thanks for this overview. Fingers crossed our cruise goes well!

Don’t be nervous. My family and myself were first time cruisers on this same cruise in August and had a great time…..so much so that we booked another for next August while on board. Some of the ‘ugly’ issues raised in this review are incredibly picky. If you don’t feel the need to be ‘entertained’ every night then the entertainment provided was just fine (and I like the Beatles by the way, and saw the band play four time during our trip - my only complaint was that they didn’t play for long enough). Yes the toilet and shower could have been more private, but there is a curtain that can be pulled across to offer more privacy and my family of four sharing the same cabin seemed to cope fine. And re. The location of the noodle bar next to the casino and slots, you wouldn’t know they were there when you’re in the restaurant…..you can’t hear a peep from them.
My main criticism would be the cost of the ship organised excursions - not touched on in the review. They are hideously over priced for what they are. If you are prepared to do a little bit of prep / research before going you can saved hundreds of dollars. For a coach trip from Livorno to Florence they wanted around 200 dollars each. We got a taxi to the train station and the local train there and back for less than a quarter of this. And got more time in Florence. Avoid these like the plague.

If you like the Broadway type shows get in line for Burn the Floor really early, 45 minutes before. It always filled up. The best entertainment was Howl at the Moon. If you've booked excursions through NCL you should be ok. If you're doing your own thing remember in Cannes you have to Tender into port, this can take hours so don't plan on being in port in the morning; Make sure you know how to get through Livorno to Pisa/Florence or where ever you might be going, same with Civitavecchia and Rome. We're still working on our port review video, wish we had it ready to go for you. Most importantly have fun!
We found the bars were crowded but the bar in the buffet room was great, no line ups. You could walk right up and get any drink you wanted. We like the adult pool area the best. Nice and calm compared to the main pool area where you could never find a seat. Make sure you put the DO NOT DISTURB on your door when you want to use the bathroom or shower. 😂

When the Norwegian Epic first debuted I believe it had the Blue Man group as one of the shows.
That would be really cool and that was our impression that NCL was known for having legit broadway class performances.

Much appreciated the quick pace of clips rather than watching someone talk in their room or worse bounce around as they do one long take walking deck to deck. Am sorry that this NCL ship was such a disappointment. That bathroom arrangement is crazy! Makes me wonder if Epic was originally built for some other market where this is preferred. We did our first cruise in August on HAL to Alaska and loved it! Booked on NCL Bliss for Dec 5 day Mex Riviera, wanting to try the big ship experience, and hoping it’s the best of HAL with the show entertainment NCL is known for. Thanks again!
We cruised out of Barcelona. there was the option to sail from Rome and we're glad we went with Barcelona. We saw people traveling to and from the cruise port on the train to Rome with all their luggage and it looked tedious. If we sail out of Rome we'll avoid the train and get a shuttle service or something. We haven't given up on NCL, so we'd love to hear about your trip on the Bliss! What ship did you sail on for you HAL to Alaska? We've been looking to do an Alaskan cruise.

We've heard the Caribbean cruise is much different than the European as far as the on board experience goes. We get mixed comments on the current state of the Epic. Good review. We are booked to go on the Epic Feb 2025. The price for a family of 4 was hard to beat so I am not expecring perfection.
We still enjoyed our trip over all, the ports were great. You'll have a great time now there won't be any surprises 😁 Other people have said it's gotten better... some people have said it's gotten worse LoL .. Come back and let us know how your cruise went!

Thank for cruising with us! We've been looking into ours next cruise, reading reviews and talking to agents and it really seems like cruise lines are putting everything into their new huge ships and the smaller ships are suffering. But the ports were great and that's what really matter to us.
Epic will be my first ncl and solo cruise. I'm saving a lot of money through my travel agent. I'm looking forward to it and I am flexible when it comes to cruising.
It definitely won't be so bad as a solo cruiser. And we've heard from people on more recent sailings say it's gotten better. We hope you have a wonderful cruise and come back to let us know how it goes!

Wow, we were on the Epic in 2020 just before the shutdown. Our experience was totally different. Lots of great entertainment. The bathroom situation was so bad, even for a couple. We found the room very squishy compared to other staterooms we had. The food was excellent. We had mostly speciality dinners which were part of our package. I do not think we will be cruising for quite a while until things get better. You pay way more for way less. So sad.😢
Sadly that seems to be the case. We would try the Epic again after it's refurbishment and maybe it's different when it's in the Caribbean. Was your cruise in Europe or the Caribbean?
@@HereToCheers ours was in the Carribean. I doubt the refurbished ship will fix the bathrooms. I would choose a different ship.
I wonder why they didn't have nightly dance parties at Spice H20 like they do when they cruise the Caribbean.
We've heard cruising is different in Europe compared to the Caribbean. This was our first European cruise so it's hard for us to say. But it make sense for the cruise lines to cater to different clientele based on region.
@@HereToCheers that's too bad because it seems like it would be enjoyed by everyone and obviously this sailing lacked entertainment. Hopefully it's something they look at in the future.

Just finished a December 23 sixteen day Mediterranean and transatlantic cruise on the Epic. We were a group of three and we all were very disappointed with the ship. As pointed out by many, the balcony cabins without an actual bathroom was weird. The beds are short, the cabin is cramped. For the first time (this was my fifth cruise) I found some very rude staff on visits to the dining room. If our group of three, one of whom did not speak English, did not wish to share a table since that person would be left out, we were at times put off to the side to wait though the dining room had tables for four available and some of those tables had couples at them or even single diners. Even a polite request for jam to go with an English muffin was rebuffed, the wait person saying jam was not available in the dining rooms which is a blatant lie. At times the bread plate was useless in that they never offered the bread to put on it. Never again.

I sailed on her in October 2022 in Europe. Food was delicious, crew was very friendly, stateroom was always clean. I’d sail on her again.

We’ve seen that ship in port numerous times, so it was interesting to have a look around. It does look huge. This was a great review. Really honest. I think this ship is a bit big for us. We didn’t like the bathroom layout out. The food did look good and there seems to be a wide variety. Shame that the entertainment wasn’t as wow as the ship. Great review. 🍻

35 active male, non drinker, get the spa pass after hiking and climbing on your excursions the sauna is a great way to relax the muscles and cool down on the back deck watching the port disappear with your wife is magical. The manhattan, taste and the garden cafe are free and as good quality as anything else, just after you get your food put it on your table and wash your hands. The gym is good, the beds are comfortable I had a studio suite, with a double bed and no balcony. I used the balconies upstairs and in the spa. Bring some clothes pins to claim a chair on the pool deck and mix your water with ice and a splash of lemonade in your insulated thermal beverage holder and you're all set.
I mean are you going to enjoy the ship or enjoy the excursions? I went to for the excursions and ate and went to the spa and sunbathed if possible. I'm not a fan of public pools or hottubs.
It's what you make of it if your attitude is fun loving you will love it. If your attitude is critical you won't enjoy it.
You've hit the nail on the head, the key is to go with the flow and have a good time!

Ah guys its a shame that you had a few dissapointments after looking forward to it for so long. I thought these were very top of the range quality cruisex but ooo the smells etc . Sorry we didn't measure that but the rooms aren't that big, 10 foot should work.
Have you ever cruised ROYAL Caribbean.. you need to compare. It's a step above, in every way, especially with the balcony cabin configuration!!!

This is my first time going on NCL I've only gone on MSC but i won a "FREE Cruise" with Casinos at Sea, with Free at sea included you just had to pay for port fees & admin Fee's but i am Very scared going on NCL Epic after watching this Video lol Thank you! for this video.. i might just upgrade my stateroom to the Haven.

So sad. I've been on Epic twice. When it launched it had the best entertainment at sea. Blue Man, Legends in Concert and Cirque Dreams all Vegas style acts.

I've never been on a cruise and never really fancied it. I guess it's being stuck with all those people. Sounds like I couldn't even crash out in comfy seats unless I was willing to listen to ping pong being played. The showers also sound a bit rough having to time it right to get a hot one. A honest review and it didn't make me think I should go out and book a cruise. I wonder what happened to the underwear. Did someone end up going commando 😂
It's not for everyone, had this been our first cruise experience it might not be for us either LoL We like to think a crew member got the underwear and it's not floating around the ocean, but if we ever see a tiktok of a sea turtle wearing tighty whities we'll know 😁😁

😲😲 Oh wow, yes glad we could be of help. We watched several videos about the Epic and people complained about the bathroom design and that was it. No one complained about the dirtiness or entertainment. This cruise is the most time we've spent in a cabin watching TV. Hopefully you can find another cruise and have a much better experience than we did.

Most People either love or hate the Epic. I did love the ship but I do understand why a lot of People don’t like the ship. I love the food and the Entertainment . It’s a oddly made design ship.

Worst cruise ship I have ever cruised on. Eleven days of pure torture. This ship feels like a dark, dank, dirty, seedy two-star Las Vegas Casino, only in Pahrump, NV. The food was horrible, the crew were constantly angry, often agitating passengers. My check in was botched, my app never worked, my name was wrong, all my excursions were cancelled for no reason "call Miami" not our problem. The worst of all of these issues is you can't see the ocean on this ship unless you have a balcony. You will not find anywhere on the ship to relax and enjoy the ocean unless you want to gamble. The layout of the ship could not accommodate the masses and with only two elevator sets on the ship it would often get aggressive. The crew was ill-equipped to handle moving the masses during excursions, events, etc. It constantly felt like walking around Disneyland at peak season. This felt like a low budget cruise carrier! First and last time on NCL
OMG we're so sorry, what a nightmare! 😲😲 We thought our cruise was bad, this just sounds horrible. Maybe NCL is in bigger trouble than we thought. We're still open to trying them but we're going to give them some time. The only bright side is this might make your next cruise seem a whole lot better. So sorry friend!

Yeah... unless it's great deal or some ports you can't find with another ship, skip it for now. We might try it again after it's refurbishment if we can get a good deal just to see if it helps any.
Thanks for the thorough review. I think Epic was NCL's first attempt at a large ship. They needed to have this ship to develop the Breakaway Class. Also, I have to say this in response to "Robert, didn't want to be bothered to put on pants to eat." Seriously? It is fun and elegant to dress up for dinner on a cruise ship, even on NCL I always wear a suit or a tuxedo in the evening. It would be nice if more guests made an effort to dress formally for dinner in the main dining room and at the specialty restaurants. NCL's freestyle concept is great, but they really need to tighten up the dress code. It is not much to ask men to at least have a collard shirt and slacks in the main dining rooms, and a jacket and slacks in specialty dining rooms.

It seems rather odd that a grown man would not want to put big boy pants on for this cruise for just a few hours during a trip. In addition to the narrator's negative comments, why did you not tell your server to hold the salt so that you could salt your own soup? No soup for you!
Well Robby it's called humor and Gina was just making a joke from one night when we were deciding where to eat after walking around in port all day, I was to tired to go back to the room and change just to get the same food we could get from the other dining room, as is. We do typically have at least one nice dinner while on the cruise at a restaurant we have to pay extra for and will dress up for that.
ALL CRUISES, AND I HAD BEEN IN A LOT, THE ENTERTAINMENT IS BAD EVERY TIME, BUT THIS ONE IT LOOKS THE WORSE!
I DON'T KNOW WHO THE RESPONSIBLE PERSON IS FOR ALL THAT, BUT MUST BE VERY FREAKING BORING! SO, EVERYTHING YOU JUST MENTIONED IT DOESN'T SURPRISE ME! I AM GOING ON THIS SHIP IN SEPT. AND DEFINITELY YOU HAVE TO MAKE YOUR OWN ENTERTAINMENT. THANK YOU FOR SHARING!
