I was so anxious the whole time watching. I’m glad Cowboy followed his instincts. Might be a good idea to try it again at some point just to make sure it wasn’t a fluke or like you said he was just watching the stick not the snake so if your out on the trail and come across one or more he won’t have the stick to distract him, then what will he do? That’s my thought/concern. Maybe just to be on the safe side try it again. See if the guy will put the stick at his side for a few seconds just to assess his then reaction to the snake.

Last year I took our 2 Belgian Malinois to Rattlesnake aversion class twice each. It worked extremely well. This year, we found 2 rattlesnakes on our property and the girls are not showing the expected reaction. Now we have a new GSD who is obsessed with lizard hunting, sticking her nose under every rock and pile of wood. I am looking for a class soon.

I live in cattle country, Nevada and have an ACD/American Lab mix. I have trained him to stay on the trails with me and keep his nose out of holes and under bushes. My biggest fear is him startling a snake and getting bit. I have seen rattle snake aversion advertised locally and after seeing your video I think I will partake next time they are offered. Thank you for sharing your adventures with Cowboy!

Just took a snake aversion class last weekend with my cattle dog. We haven't seen any yet... Hoping it stays that way.

We did aversion training up here in Washington State a few years back. Now, we live on the west side of the state where there are no rattlers, but we do travel and hike on the east side some where there are Western Rattlers. Gus does not like snakes at all so this was great training for him. Although it was tough to see him get zapped by the shock collar, it was better than the alternative.

Very interesting, I live in rattlesnake country in Idaho and they have even come right up to my porch. In the fall of 2020 I had a north american diamond back rattler pay me and my 2 labs a visit on a sept afternoon. I was sitting in my living room and heard a very loud rattling sound , very distinctive and I knew right away , I looked out and saw it at the front door down the 3 stairs coiled hissing and tongue going in and out. I opened the front door looked out and saw my older lab take one look at it and run under the deck, I threw a 2x4 at it that I had at the door for intruders, it got more angry and then I threw the baseball bat I had towards it from the door it attempted to strike and I got so scared I slammed the door shut. My other lab chased it off, since that day fast forward 2022 both of the labs had to be put down after 13 yrs. of life with them, now I have my heeler and he is on their old turf, and yes, I'm nervous. They will be out any day now, he is 11 months old, and I hope the Australian comes out in him. We cut our grass on our property very short, my husband has a riding mower. Thank you for your great videos.

I live with my cattle, dog Berta in the little town of Menindee on the Darling River in far Western New South Wales. I am very worried about Berta coming across a snake. In a recent walk, I saw that she was interested in something in the long grass. I panicked when I realised it was a large brown snake. Very venomous, and if she was bitten, there would be no hope for her to survive. She was interested in the snake but unsure of what it was. She had never seen a snake before. Fortunately, she was wary of it and backed away slightly. Luckily, I was able to call her away from this night. Her recall is poor so we will need to work on that.

Thank you. I'm fixing to move to either east Texas or nw Louisiana. I was wondering if my heelers would be able to know the difference between the Gartner snakes we have here in WA and a rattler. I was thinking about the rattlesnake vaccine, but if I can get them to avoid them or even alert to them that would be great! I plan on buying a bunch of guinea hens as annoying as they are. 😂
