I'm a lifelong giants fan but when I was a kid because he was a great player and such a great guy I couldn't help but root for him 14 weeks a year and in some playoff games
@MiamiBeach xxx I’ve often asked that question myself. very hard to say. They played in such different eras. It’s like asking who would you want as the head coach of the Cowboys all-time team? Jimmy Johnson, or Tom Landry? I go back and forth on it. Staubach meant as much to his teams as Emmitt Smith meant to his. That’s not to say that Aikman wasnt vital; but the heart and soul of those 90s teams was Emmitt Smith. The same could be said about Staubach. When Staubach retired, you could still plug in Danny White and they were still contenders in the early 80s; but they clearly couldn’t get past the NFC championship without Staubach. Their confidence wasn’t the same without his competitive field generalship and his uncanny ability to escape and make big plays in critical playoff moments on 4th down. Aikman had the better Super Bowl teams. But damn, Aikman was an accurate passer in those dynasty years. So I don’t know lol
I hate the cowboys but after his “A Football Life” and I got to read and learn more about him, I realized he’s a class act and just a good dude. Excellent commentator as well
You can hate all u want but ive traveled every state in the United states and always find plenty of cowboy fans...The most loved franchise ever...Punk ass.
He didn't like Barry. Barry agrees that he didn't handle that situation very well. Barry ran the wishbone which is mostly running. Troy was a passer and when he broke his leg Barry made a call to UCLA they asked him to play for them and the rest is history. Troy never wanted to have fan interaction which gave him a reputation of being rude which he was. But because Barry made that call he helped Troy to get into a passing game offense otherwise I'm not sure where he would end up. Yet he still didn't like Barry. Oh well they still won despite of their relationship.
Niner fan here and detest the Cowboys. Aikman is pure class, nothing but respect for this guy. I never saw a man take a beating like this guy did in 89.
Aikman is one of the most badass Commentators. Sharp and smart. How the fuck is he so sharp after getting hit soo fucking hard all those years? He’s just a badass dude.
I agree with captain on his previous comment, Troys a class act. I’m a Packer fan, but love Aikmen he represented true professionalism at the highest level of the sport and in life. Good man.
I'm a lifelong Cowboys fan and give you respect for not being a fanatic, like the Eagles fans I grew up with. I must say, I hate the Packers but in no way hate your guy Aaron Rodgers. He's ripped my heart out a few times but it's because he's great, not lucky. Plus, he's a class act as well. Good luck to your team this season, except where it affects my Cowboys.
I remember when the Cowboys got Charles Haley . First thing I did was call my friend who was a 49ers fan he thought I was lying. I don’t know what the 49ers were thinking trading Haley especially to Dallas
He had the cleanest footwork. Of any QB in that era watch him back pedal out of the pocket and almost never use the shotgun. He is a perfect example of how fundamentals make your game
plain and simple we had larry allen, strongest nfl athlete. 720 lbs benching pressing and so on, best offensive line, running back receiver one of the best qb's in the history of the nfl, hell yea with these rules today we'd win more titles than any other team, but this isn't our era, it's passed, but we'll be back.
never liked the cowboys but always respected troy as a QB. He is well spoken, articulate,a great game analysis and all around classy guy....he should look at a career as Gm..he would be good
I was at the game when he suffered that major concussion. He had no idea where he was. The team doctor asked him if he knew where he was he said he was in Henrietta and he played for the chicks which were from his play in high school. In his rookie season he had quite a few concussions that year. When he played the eagles on Thanksgiving day he was sacked 17 times. Needless to say it wasn't a good day.
I am a Die Hard Skins fan, but that 90's O Line of Dallas was one of the best I've ever seen. Those boys were legendary. The Hogs in the 80's & the Dallas O Line of the 90's are the best ever.
As a die-hard Cowboy fan I do have one happy remembrance of the 'skins: Fresh out of USAF tech school my 1st duty station was Incirlik AFB in Adana, Turkey. (Classified as 'Torrejón, Spain' according to my orders). I missed the 2nd leg of my flight, spending 18 hrs waiting on the next one. That was in Frankfurt, Germany. My consolation was watching Washington--with Riggins--run over Miami...even though it was 4 in the a.m. local time. Cowboy fan first; NFC fan 2nd.
Aikman ... thank you for all the great times you gave us ... Cowboy's fans !!!........ I wish we could get another quarterback close to your intelligence and mechanics !!!
Aikman was the greatest QB for the 1990s Cowboys and he was great to have to play against the other regular season stat collecting QBs to win 3 Super Bowls in 4 years and 7 NFC East titles in 10 years.
Troy Aikmen a truthful class act who lead a group of leaders. In his prime winning stretch He was a part of the best offensive machine who beat the toughest teams that ever existed!
Troy rarely gets the credit he deserves for the 94 and SB95 seasons. Switzer replaces Johnson and the team nearly self destructs in 94. Troy was as much the head coach in 95 as Barry was. He led by example and really was a class act both on and off the field.
I'm watching this interview for the first time, well more than 2 years after that game .. at this point it is truly ironic and downright surreal when he says towards the end "I hope we see a great game"
Patriots won the game on the play when their linebacker jui-jitsu locked the ankle of Atlanta's tailback and nearly twisted his foot completely backwards.
Yep, always respected Aikman. I know some people don't like his commentating, but I've always enjoyed his commentating. Too me he's fair and honest, not a homer. Plus he's the same age as me, but I'm 3 months older...lol By the way, I'm a Vikings fan...
Respect to Troy for a great interview. Honorable mention to Dan as well for not asking dumb questions. When Dan asked if Troy ever went out with Micheal Irvin "NO" LOL.
I've taken at least 3+ hits skiing with a good helmet on hard ice. So hard that I absolutely knew I had a concussion. Yet, I didn't. The helmet saved my butt. I say that because I did have three concussions when I was a kid with no helmet. Once I was hit with a fully swinging baseball bat that put me out for at least8+ hours and woke at a specialty hospital for children in Hollywood. I felt fine but was out another 2-4 hours, so I know concussions first hand. But that helmet saved me while skiing so why don't the helmets football players wear do the same.
Troy is a class act! He was an excellent field general qb and his precision three step drop darts were always spot on especially on 3&6 plays to the big tight end who only ever droooed one ball ever, Mr.Novachek. Loved hearing the Charles Haley relationship... really cool to hear the little backstories that surface...I believe Troy's style of play was a big influence in the way Tom handles the positiin within the system. Troy is very humble and he deserves more credit for keeping the gang together which was obviously stranger than fiction. Can you imagine what the Cowboys of the 90's would have been like if they'd had Twitter? That team would have melted and exploded. The beef with Troy and Barry Switzer was like nitro glycerin...a few twitter posts and that whole organization would have come crashing down, you can forget that 3rd ring.
11:55 I have great respect for Troy Aikman. And with TB12 having won another ring with the Bucs, TB12's argument is loud and clear. It's not all about the Belichick system that was the reason why he won so many superbowls.
gronk resume play football, dent lombardi, party, retire, more parties,go back to play to get another trophy to toss during more parties, dance with cheerleader. GOAT
I like Troy because roots to CA where I saw him play with Bruins. Any sports business is about rings. I've been around rings, it's real. Bow down to the King, respect the King, unmatched Tom Brady. Feat never to be matched. 2nd to Tom, 2 QBs have won 4 super bowls, Terry and Joe, and if Terry calls Tom the greatest then everybody respect that statement. Tom Brady the greatest QB because you play to win the biggest game, the Title, or else remove the scoreboard.
Still feel he never gets the credit he deserves. Remember he played in a run oriented offense. Imagine the numbers he would put up if he played in the West Coast Offense or a more pass happy offense.
12 TD's and 11 INT's is precise? His numbers are trash.. Even for that era. His job in the reg season was hand the ball to Emmitt Smith.. Young, Marino, Elway, Favre all far better than him in that era. Not close.. Look at what Young had to do in that era winning MVP awards. He had to carry the load. Aikman got largely carried.. 93 they start the year 0-2 with Smith in a contract dispute. Once Smith comes back they win 4 straight and go 12-4 on the year.. Smith is league MVP. Aikman was an above AVG QB at best.. He played well in big games. But Reg season he was not very good at all..
@@dbreiden83080 He didn't throw one yard td's like Young. His numbers would have been off the charts if they're offense was different. Inside the ten it was always Emmitt. Young was throwing for td's inside the five. How many swing passes did he have for td's? Dumb comparison. Throw the ball down the field with accuracy and juice there's no comparison. I mean just look at the 92' championship; all you need to know. Young: Pick, Pick. Aikman: Darts. It wasn't until the 9ers broke the salary cap and lost draft picks that Young could win ONE superbowl. Fake as usual.
troy probably forgot several things - 1. forgot how hard bledso was hit only after which brady got a chance to play. 2. brady gets rid of the football much faster than he did, 3. brady did not have offensive team like michael irvin, novacheck, emma smith, ... etc. thruout his career - brady had max only for 2-3 years and they were too good years for passing, gronk has been there only for 10 years or so of which he is sick/injured quite a bit. montana had best offensive team ever. jerry rice is still the best receiver.
Troy sacrificed stats for championships. There’s a reason Emmitt is the all time leading rusher. He was one championship away from being an NFL legend. He came close.
That’s because Kobe and LeBron are delusional neither got that close to Jordan. Aikman ridiculous accuracy. Jerry Rice was the most dominant player of all time just look at his numbers are so far and above everyone else before the major passing era.
Tom Brady is not the GOAT because he played in a softer NFL in which QBs and receivers are protected. Therefore, I believe that Johnny Unitas or Roger Staubach is the GOAT.
All class, all the time. Barry Switzer took a great team, and even with his lax, mediocre incompetent coaching,Troy still managed to win the big one under him. Jerry Jones, great business man, terrible GM.
Verum Quaesitor Switzer wasn’t incompetent. He was hired because he didn’t dog his players. A lot of Switzer’s draft picks were solid players. Don’t knock the old ball coach cause if you do that, you knock the coaching staff that Johnson brought in. Barry gave them full control. 12-4 12-4 and a SB in there. Not too bad for the old ball coach. Almost made it back the next year. What is his knock? The Philly game? The players stopped the old ball coach from calling other plays. He went with the plays that they voted to run. Every team does it and sometimes comes up short. Would Jimmy have made it to 3? Sure, but he’d have kept the team young but cutting players. Did Jerry like that? No! Did Jimmy burn out, possibly. But it wasn’t fun. So Jerry brought in fun, but effective Switzer, and last time I checked Switzer is the last coach to get the Cowboys to the promise land. It’s hard to get there.
Troy AlKMAN help me find the killer the one shot my son James Stacey Robinson Jr. I am your brother QB. James Stacey Robinson Dallas Cowboyz 41. What is he talking about again I'm a Dallas cowboys Jerry Jones what can these are bees do with me they can't even touch for real like I said they got their world I got my world my with the Dallas Cowboyz 41. If I have to kill the rapper I know the NFL football league with back me up with the and I still a free agent. This is real life my zone. Y'all was meant enough to shoot my son is NFL Father James Stacey Robinson Dallas Cowboyz 41 . Before you think about you cuz I had a murder case in 2013 I beat that murder case. another against the rapping as sorry as opponent .
Thank you, Troy! Finally, someone speaking accurately about Tom Brady. Great props for what he has done with the Patriots. But, had he gotten with a bad revolving door organization, he most certainly would not have the SB's or have been as great. I would love to see him with a poor offensive line and weak defense and see how long he would play or how well he would perform and how many games he would win in that situation. So, QB's are the most dependent position on the field.
C Pope There is potential and then there is living up to it. Tom Brady EXCEEDED ALL EXPECTATIONS of him, which is why he IS the greatest in his position, PROBABLY in the game.
Football is a TEAM sport. Tom is on the best organization in football today and has been for his entire career. You have no idea how he would have faired if he had to PLAY AGAINST THE PATRIOTS ALL THESE YEARS and if he had to play on a bottom two team for a few years. And that is a fact. Tom Brady is NOTHING without an offensive line. Nothing against Tom, but that is the way the game works. Tom does know how to get it done, I must admit, at least as long as he is on this great team. Just like Troy said.
C Pope you would love to see Brady with a Bad offensive line? Did you watch football in 2015? He had the practice squad in front of him for half the season and lost the AFC championship game by one point. No other QB would have had a winning season with the injuries and line he had that year never mind winning any playoff games
Love Troy Aikman!
I'm a lifelong giants fan but when I was a kid because he was a great player and such a great guy I couldn't help but root for him 14 weeks a year and in some playoff games
I was the same only I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan, but I loved Lawrence Taylor!
Cowboys fans are fortunate to have Staubach and Aikman as their Hall of Fame quarterbacks. Class acts, all the way.

Some of the best footwork of any QB.

I WOULD TAKE SOMETHING AWAY. THEY CHEATED THE CAP.
Troy aikman is not in the class of Montana or Marino
And btw throwing is an athletic feat..
Turns out it wasn’t a good game
I had a poster of Bradshaw, Staubach

Aikman was best QB in a star uniform!! I wish we had that passion again at QB
GAME RECOGNIZE GAME
C Pope you would love to see Brady with a Bad offensive line? Did you watch football in 2015? He had the practice squad in front of him for half the season and lost the AFC championship game by one point. No other QB would have had a winning season with the injuries and line he had that year never mind winning any playoff games
C Pope you know nothing about the Pats babbling on about his offense line go look at the rankings of the Pats O-line since 2014
Then STFU
