Pelican bay is no joke. My uncle did 10 years there. 8 in the shu. He got out and shipped to Texas for another 10 years.
I still have all the mail, art, pictures in folders with the pelican bay shu stamp on the mail. When he got out he sent me his clear small TV and the stuff he furnished his cell with. Mostly inmate made artwork.
He had a cell phone and would regularly talk to all of his family. (Yes in the shu!)
I talk to him but I would never ask him of his business in prison or politics. So it's interesting to hear this guys story!

Stanislaus county jail is even worse. I know my Uncle has done probably more than 40+ calendars over the years and been to every California jail/ prison you could imagine and he said the same thing. They kept him in Stanislaus county jail for almost 8 YEARS damn near rotting away in the nasty hell shit hole before sending him to prison for 18 calendars cause hes a big time shot caller. By the time he made it to prison he only had a decade left to do.....California is become a SHIT hole. A VERY EXPENSIVE SHIT HOLE.
I know people paying 1500 a month in the valley for a studio apartment! And theres NO JOBS here especially now with the virus. Just look at Modesto / stockton crime rate. SMH

bruh a straight convict. Im from cali n i been to the joint for a quick little minute, nothing major, but i did enough time to be able to recognize predators from prey or convicts from inmates! Big ups to you bruh for making it out n giving back that number! i retired mine a few years ago n cut off everybody from that life n did a 180 on my life. The odds of going prison out here and being able to live a normal life after are slim to none, so its cool seeing somebody else who experienced some (and alot more) of the same things as i did make it out and do right by themselves. Got a Tour but no SHU and I honestly thank the OGs for letting me walk the 4 yard. Serious buissness. You know how easy is to pick up time and how it might be in some people's interest that you pick up more time. I was 7 months till realease when I ended up on level 4 yard and I was scared cause I knew for sure I was Going to pick up more time but 2 years han been enough of a Joyride. Interesting interview. Thanks Free From Fetters Grove and Death. (Shout out from the SFV to Joey). When I was in Nursing school they had us go to a Board Meeting for Nurses that are being disciplined with the possibility of losing their license. The first case we heard was a Nurse that worked at Pelican Bay. He submerged a convict into a tub of scalding water and scarred him for life...He also injured another convict but I can't recall the circumstances. What was creepy is that this dude use to sit outside of Pelican Bay before he was an employee. He had some sort of fascination with the prison. He of course got his license revoked but was never charged with a crime.

I don’t think the people getting locked up for years over small or non violent crimes deserve to have to live this way. Some people are just trying to make it in this world and take care of themselves and the people they love. Some people are deep into addiction and can’t find a way out of the cycle so they end up stealing or doing whatever they have to do because they literally don’t see any other way out. The world isn’t black and white like that.

He was interesting. Nothing is better than seeing someone get out of prison & turn their life around. The honesty from him, talking about the mental affects he has from it (the nightmares), is important for young ppl (or older ppl who just haven’t landed there yet) to hear. prison stories are interesting, I could listen to my brother talk for days about his time, but I also know the psychological part of him that was affected by it. It’s not common to hear ppl talk about that part of it.

Literally, how could someone dislike this video? The man being interviewed is so positive and real. He grew up in horrible circumstances that weren't his fault and is a straight soldier, that did his time like a man and made it out to better himself, found love, has an amazing dog. He talks about prison politics without running his mouth. He is just solid and genuine in every way. Much love and respect brother! Thank you! Best prison video I've ever watched, and I watch a lot of them.

Always nice to hear when people get out and do good. That's one of the biggest misconceptions about prisons, they're not all evil monsters. Some were just young knuckleheads that made bad decisions.

To me, this man said the four words that ANYONE who is in the life, considering being in the life, thinks it is cool to be in the life or even is just curious about the life of crime NEEDS to hear, remember and understand...
    IT'S NOT WORTH IT...
