In this video I travel to the state of Minnesota to see John's Custom Saws' epic NOS powered chainsaw.
This is all super dangerous stuff I don't recommend anybody try all this out.
Sorry about the high pitch machinery in the background while in the shop. I didn’t notice the sound in real life and I couldn’t remove the sound while editing without deleting relevant material.
Subscribe to Guilty of Treeson and John's Custom Saws on RUclips and IG!
I love the freedom you’re getting from not being held back by a company that just wanted to cash in on your work. I’ll bet they wish they listened to you when you wanted to do it your way. Keep up the good work my man 🤘🏽
Solider the fitting closed. Then start with a .010 pin drill , drill thru solider to size your nozzle. I've installed nos on all sorts of things from lawnmower to airboat, outboard boats , and automotive engines.
What a good time that was... learning on the fly lol... haven't watched the whole video but I love it already... thanks my friend and you are welcome back any time.... if I didn't scare ya off 😁
Just subscribed to your channel, I can’t wait to see the progress on this saw. Seems like you need to slow the nos down, could you put a smaller opening on the pipe it’s ejected from or attach another tap along the pipe somewhere?
Just to mention the bottle doesn't have 1800psi. The emergency pop off is usually 1400/1500psi. The solenoid is only there to transfer the nitrous when needed. Down side to gravity filling is you need to heat the bottle back up to around 900-975psi in the sun or with a bottle heater for optimal/consistent performance. If the psi in the tank is to high like 1200+ depending on the solenoid brand it actually will not open. Nitrous is definitely fun for sure..
Such an epic day meeting Jacob and hanging out with John and his NOS MS460N. great video Jacob!
Thanks Nick it was nice to meet you!
Some outstanding guys right there. Awesome video.
i love how, in the intro, when the Chainsaw dies, it gives out one last fart of fire lol.
I hit the Thumbs Up before even watching...
ANYTHING powered with NOS .. REQUIRES a Thumbs Up
19:45 fun fact the have jets so you can dial back the amount of nos
Jake, the whining noise in the shop was probably from cordless battery chargers doing their thing. Something to look out for whenever you are visiting someone. If you can unplug them for the duration of your filming you shouldn’t have to worry about them messing up your videos again. Loved the video. This is exactly the kind of monkeying around and backyard engineering I love to see. Keep it up man👍
yeah that sound messes with my head. i've got perfect pitch, so that kinda sound just hurts my ears! same with vacuum cleaners! xD
As someone who works on a lot of old saw, when I saw the title I was confused by NOS. A lot of the parts I get are NOS( New Old Stock).
Great video sir.
I'm from Louisiana and we call them soft drinks, not cokes. It gives you some perspective on the attitudes towards alcohol in Louisiana as opposed to the rest of the south when we use a different term to specify that we're not referring to hard drinks when talking about beverages.
Medical Nitrous does NOT have any Sulfur in it like commercial NOS does. That’s to prevent someone from using commercial NOS in an incorrect (and dangerous) way. That’s also what the S stands for: N-nitrogen, O-oxygen, S-sulphur. It’s also common for it to stand for Nitrous Oxide System(s).
Not trying to be a jerk here, just thought that it might clear up some misinformation.
BUT, very fun video and I’d give it a FISTFUL of 👍 if I could!
Awesome video! What a difference that NOS made.
This was so unexpected! That was incredibly awesome 👌
Great sharing
wow i just got a blast from the past, i also learned the periodic table in 9th grade myself back in 1989 and its the only thing that i do remember off hand just always stuck with me
STOP !!...now I have to get one. That is a fun toy!
Great video! Love the guys you are hanging with.....pretty cool!! Crazy....but cool!!
You guys have way too much fun, lol. Unreal how it cuts with NOS
Nice video, I had the volume down so I could just hear you and didn't notice the crickets in the back ground. Went back with volume up to see what everyone was complaining about. Wish I'd have known you were so close I could have taken you out to lunch. Keep up the great work.
Funny thing about names. NOS was called POP for some time in the racing scene.
What a blast !!!! You guys are on the CUTTING edge. Just say'n !!!!
I really like this guy. Humble man.
Fun video! 👍 Maybe you could talk August into having his saws modded the same! 😄
Just checked out John's channel, instant subscribe. That dude's saws are so cool.
Great set up. You might be able to run a heavier paraffinic fuel (maybe 10% in gas) when using NOS, and add 2-EHN (2 Ethyl Hexyl Nitrate), to enhance combustion.
This would make a huge difference when it comes to chainsaw milling. No more 30 minute passes on a big slab!
In the whole scheme of things I thought I'd never see, this wasn't on the list - solely due to never imagining that anyone would try it. If there's a couple of things I have to give you Yanks credit for, it's your ingenuity and having the stones to send it.
Separately, enjoying the content on your new channel. Hope this grows into exactly what you want it to be :)
Hey Jacob....I love your new channel. We need a video of the mods you do to your personal saws!!!
I made friends with a chemist and he introduced me to tannerite, years before you could buy the stuff at stores. Chemists are cool like that
Awesome work .
just grand how you super charging the 2 stroke motor! the american dream of making things better, faster,
and unique ! great job! maybe you should use a spraying nozzle like for water to help limit the amount flowing.
along with directing it right into the carb.
This saw needs a metering valve on the NOx output side... so funny...
NOS - is just a Brand - "Nitrous Oxide Systems"
lol..
Great video!
I love your new channel. I want to see you do well
When you machine a new intake make it so the nozzle can be at the top of it so it's not losing as much and get a set of small gas engine nitrous nozzles and your set John. I cant wait to see this thing all done and setup
“Got to live a little, throw some NOS on that saw!” 😂
should have a reduction regulator, which is set to the pressure you want, after the big NOS bottle. same on the bottle on the chain saw.
pressure reducers are e.g. also used in bars where big high pressure co2 bottles are used to pressurize beerbarrels
That was amazing, insane...but, Effing amazing
@Guilty of Treeson that's badass!!! Definitely slomo material right there!
That is so sick dude.
Good job teaching him to get the gullet
I drag race and we use to use ntirous. If it was me i would deign me a piece of tubing to bolt onto the crab that has a 90 degree turn away from the operator and then drill a hole in the tubing to inject the nitrous. But for every amount of nitrous you put thru it you have to have twice the amount of fuel. So you have to double your fuel for the amount of nitrous. If you dont have enough fuel for the amount of nitrous your injecting its gonna backfire thru the carb
Would it be worth installing another solenoid for additional fuel, maybe make a venturi in conjunction with the nos
What a real buzz, use NOS on your draught beer keg. NOS is also laughing gas.
That was bitchin, badazz and cool. Lol, that's all I got. Loved it .🤣🤣
what if you ran the line too the decmp port?..or maybe a pulse line port?.. idk how you would keep it from loosing compression/vaccum thou... but.direct port lol...
maybe make or find a jet from a motorcycle, too use as a nozzle too lower the flow-amount... smaller nozzle, shot.prob work great...
and if the line was in the intake, crank,or cylinder mite even prevent the backfire-fire threw intake.. but then again prob not because it's a 2stroke, no valves.
awesome show.
p s Redbeard makes awesome stacks!
Loving the video, is there anything that can be done with the screeching audio at the start (while you are talking with John in the shop)?
I noticed that while editing but unfortunately there wasn’t anything I could do to fix it without cutting out a bunch of relevant material. The weird thing is I didn’t notice that sound in real life but that’s just the way it goes sometimes I suppose 🤷🏻♂️
@@GuiltyofTreeson what software are you editing on? If you can tweak the EQ settings you could filter the high pitched noise out.
@@GuiltyofTreeson let me know if you need a hand sorting it out.
A dividing head to machine a nut, but easier to buy hex shaft, then make the thread you prefer by drilling and tapping or turning the thread
I’m no mechanic or machinist but I would say acorn nuts with really small holes in them of various sizes to regulate the flow.
Two things:
Build a 90° intake so flames don't blow back to your hands and face.
Put disk switch on top of the solenoid ON / OFF.
already done my man... i was under the gun with jacob in town so i had to make something work asap and it wasnt ideal i admit
Better metering and a wet shot system would help. Perhaps machine a Velocity stack with interchangeable jets for fuel and nitrous.
I'd love to see Destin from Smarter Every Day use his high speed vid equipment on your cuts!
Happy Thanksgiving. I hope its a good one for you and the family.
What kind of dyno results were obtained? 😂
30 seconds in the video and it sounded like that saw hit 20k rpms lol sounded like the old ninja 250 4cylinders almost lol should ziptie a fire exstingisher next to he nitrous bottle incase of inspections haha xD
That is crazy !
Awesome video as usual!.. But what is that high pitch whirring noise running pretty much throughout? It drove me crazy! 😂
I don’t know man I am sorry lol. I didn’t notice in real life when I was filming but it was bothering me as well when I was editing
@@GuiltyofTreeson you should be able to run a low pass filter on the audio while editing. It might make voices sound a little muffled, but it's better than unbearable high pitched noise.
Also use a flow meter for tig welding they run cubic feet per hour. Designed for high pressure welding tanks.
Speaking as no expert in nitrous, but i am in pressured gases, you could use a flow restriction or, better still, wind down the interstage pressure on the regulator (if that is a regulator on the top and it is adjustable). If not get a regulator for it so you can control the amount of flow and it's pressure as it is coming out real fast.
cool, will certainly test for week points in the crank lol
Screw a end cap and drill a tiny hole in it and u can slowly make the hole bigger
Epic build ! Just wait till Reon Rounds sees this; "Dude, I gotta have one" !
😳🤭😳😃got to get some for my 880. You should sell kits for saws.
Watch the video I really enjoyed it was fun I could get ahold of some of those Maple discs that you cut for some projects.
You should look for a small mini e-bay turbo and try and boost one of your chainsaws. 🤟
I’m in Savannah Georgia. Coke is Coke Sprite is Sprite Mountain Dew is Mountain Dew 😂😂 some people say soda but we mainly just call it by name
If you put nos on the 500i with fuel injection I bet that thing would be a monster!
It can most likely not adjust for that much fuel
Only if you could remap the chip to run ridiculously rich. Which you may be able to do if you had access to Stihl's software :)
@@asimplierlife3104 you cant change fuel trims. Stihls software is for diagnosis only.
Source: i work for a Stihl dealer
@@alexstromberg7696 Yeah, what they use at a dealer would never cut it. You would need to be a top engineer w/ Stihl b4 you'd have access to software that let you change the map.
@@asimplierlife3104 even if you could the injector is most likely not made to flow enough fuel for nos
Not that I know much about the chainsaw world. But perhaps try machining another small nozzle that threads in the side of your intake. Definitely like it
Awesome
I wonder if you could set up the nozzle to take carburetor jets? Would make it easy to tune how much nos is flowing
You need to use jets on nitrous. Any nitrous kit will come with jets, and they have a ton of sizes available.
Once you get it 100% dialed in, I really want to put this on my chainsaw DYNO!
Very cool stuff!
Try restricting the NOS flow through the fitting , I've had to do same thing with hydraulic systems to run snowplow angels
Holley owns the trademark for nos energy drink that’s manufactured by monster beverage and nos nitrous oxide systems .
Nice.😆 😆.💪 mate
WICKED!!!
In the New England area all carbonated drinks are tonic.
Steam powered chainsaw using saw dust as a fuel would be dope. But I guess that's next level mad scientist. And would probably weigh a ton.
I'm waiting for somone to make a Chain saw attachment for my chainsaw
Did you get a regulator for your nos bottle?
Maybe trip a mig welder tip for the nozzle. Might give you more control.
What you need is a stainlees steel needle valve . and a presure regulator .They are used in the oil patch for instrumentation 'copper isn't as good for durability reasons .
Safety 3rd 😁👍.
Time for a jet change, should also see if you can put the jet in after the butterfly
NOS is also called laughing gas, used at the dentist's office!
Jake are you going to Missouri to see Stihlborn and Human?
Bad ass!!!!!!!!!
They make different size jets for the nitrous.
Boys and their toys.
All I've got to say is: HOLY SHIT!
Will you use it during normal jobs?
Shit we run a propane torch around our tanks in our drag truck to warm them up haha I wouldn't recommend it but we want every edge we can get haha the cummins loves nitrous haha but we don't run NOS tanks because they are famously known for leaking and by the time you get to the tree you have no nitrous left haha but we also run big big tanks compared to this saw haha idk if John knows but a fire extinguisher mount bracket works pretty good for the little nitrous tanks 😉
Just so you guys know… people in the south don’t call every soft drink a coke. Sprite is sprite. Mountain Dew is Mountain Dew. Coke is coke. We don’t say soda or pop though.
Jake you need to let gordy at west coast saws see this . He could perfect that …..lol
NOS is the company name (Nitrous Oxide Systems) N2O is the gas. You were correct, 2 nitrogen, 1 oxygen. The gas disassociates (cracks) at ~570 degrees F. The cracking of the gas allows for more oxygen in the cylinder which requires more fuel to be added to keep the stochiometric balance correct. How are you adding the extra fuel to the engine when the N2O comes on? Without the extra fuel, you are just leaning out the fuel mix in the cylinder.
i have a LOT of extra fuel going to the saw and the cylinder ran 12lbs of NOS and its still in great shape which is surprising
Carbs are very forgiving. Jet them rich, and the extra rpm will pull extra fuel in with the higher vacuum.
John go get a set of nitrous nozzles and they will let you drop the amount a shit ton bud :) they make nozzles for little Briggs and straton engines and it would be perfect
🤘
„Practical“ is a relative term. It’s to my understand it simply needs to cut wood and make me look cool.
That things needs a small nitrous jet to keep the back firing down, like a 25 jet. Way to much nitrous not enough fuel
You have to keep the chainsaw horizontal. If you go up and down you are slower.
I’m hunting you down on all fronts, I have some work for you. You might have my email already:). I like those smoke jumper 461’s
That saws a beast without the nos
mabe a turbo would also be a nice experiment
