The trigger on them, is now split. It’s not put on ahead of being built like yours. Just received mine today. Let’s see if it makes a difference, this season. It’s a good looking heavy trap! Thanks for all you teach brother!
I bought the MB1216 on a whim one day while ordering SC #2s. Its bigger in person than on camera lol. On the superbear... take a blowtorch to the safties and get them red hot, then dunk them in cold water. They won't bend open anymore. I understand they will now break before they bend but if they only slowly bend now over a long period of time, they won't break under the normal spring tension. Honestly though on a trap that big I would make my own safties. I enjoy blacksmithing also
YOU WAY UNDER RATED THIS TRAP ! ! ! I was EXTREMELY Impressed by this trap. & like you point out the safety SUCKS ! ! ! I replace it with the exact same as a 330 , works great ! Will be setting this trap this weekend at a flooded hay field & there is just 1 spot this trap will work & cover the entire opening !
great review,i agree wit you on the safety,i have a few Bridger 330's and they have the same safety. They are a pain sometimes to set.almost got to fight with them.take care
YOUR RIGHT BROTHER THOSE TRAPS ARE MONSTERS. GREAT REVIEW GOD BLESS. SNARE SUPPLIES CAME IN TODAY. SO I AM GOING INTO PRODUCTION 1/16 CABLE WITH MICRO LOCKS NON RELAXING. AND A HEAVY DUTY SWIVEL ON THE END. GOING WITH A 4 FT LENGTH. THANKS FOR ALL THE ADVISE GOD BLESS
GOT MY CABLE CUTTER FROM HARBOR FREIGHT TODAY THE POS WOULDN'T EVEN CUT THAT 1/16 IN CABLE SO I GOTTA GO TO LOCAL HF ON TEUSDAY AND SEE I CAN FIND SOME THAT WILL.
I own a few of these of traps, and IMO, they are worth the money. I have caught both beaver, and wolverine, and neither of them moved after the trap went off. True they seem expensive in some states, but where I live, the Belisle is $42/ea., and the 1216 is $61/ea. I agree with the safety being difficult to remove once set, but you are definitely SURE to give more respect to this, once you see an animal actually caught in one; no space between animal and jaws :)
Good review Tim! I own one of those MB 12-16 JC's! They are handy in certain situations. The price is a bit of a deterrent though as far as owning more of them. As you pointed out though, they are definitely a quality-made trap!
+Todd Wittenmyer Yeah if they'd get a decent safety they'd be great. I'm looking forward to putting pans on mine in a few weeks and will do an update about that.
Just bought 4 Sleepy Creek #4 1/2 LS with a 7 1/2 bite. Man, these traps are big enough to hold a black bear, or as a Man Trap in a resistance senario! No one told me the darn things need a setter to set the springs. So I jumped up and down on them with my 155 pounds and didn't even budge the springs. Called F&T and ordered a setter for them along with 6 #3's, hopefully I can set them by hand. #3's because it is the only one that Expand A Pan makes a big pan for. The good thing about the #5 setters is that I was told it would set Belisle #330's as well. Guess now I will put some #330's on my list to buy in the near future.
I've commented in the past on trapping out here in TX but had to say that I came back from 12 years overseas and MB folks were so nice and never needed to tune them either. Agree with the safeties. I bought 4 X MB1216 and 4 X (no longer made at MB but RK now makes a 22" 1/2" bar welded on 330's I think) 30" bars welded on 330s (I think they were called superbears 660's). They were also so nice. I had a swamp rabbit run through on a 660 where the thing was frozen in over an inch plus ice. I turned the trap upside down to ensure the trigger would still be under the ice. What a hair trigger... what catches!!! In my move from GA to TX in 3 moves between '07 and '10 one of my 1216's went missing. I love both depending on the width of the beaver or otter run's age (the wider the older). I do get many beaver via snares and always put a bar on the down side of the dam so they stay hidden as much as possible. It wrap 'em up on the dams and I've almost walked right on the beaver they were so stone still and camouflaged. Anyway, that rabbit was great bait. Tight Chains, JJ
+The Meat Trapper I've ran into those spots a few times where a slightly larger trap would be a great solution. Btw I'm making a shout out video tonight and will upload this weekend and I will be giving you and your channel a mention. I'll also add your link to the description. Thanks for all the good videos!
If your doing trap reviews, how about that hog snare 220 you showed a while back. I'm interested in hog leg snares. Got a pig on trail cam a few weeks ago. I have the belisle leg snare its been tripped but I haven't connected with it yet. Thanks Man glad you are taking the time to teach these survival arts..
That's a great idea. I have been playing with a couple different leg snares. Might be a few weeks before I get the footage done but I'll put it on the schedule. have a good one!
Thanks for the review. I appreciate your evaluation. I am looking forward to your youtube video using the MB 1216 next season. Can you send a link to the pan you mentioned? I was also wondering how you determine how much tension is needed? Blessings upon you and yours.
Hi James, Unfortunately Chipotle doesn't have the pans on his website yet. I'll be seeing him in 2 weeks at the NTA convention to get some. I'll do a video on them and should have some ordering and pricing information at that time so stay tuned.
tudo bem meu amigo, muito legal estas armadilhas, comprei 2 destas AK no Brasil mais vieram com as molas muito fracas, mais tá bom vai para minha pequena coleção, felicidades para ti e sua família.

Correction it's still the same trigger. I was looking at the RGB 1022 in the same box n got them mixed up. 😂😂

Hey pal great review! I'll have to see if the regulations here allow that size bodygrip.
+330 MaNiaC If they do, it's good to have a few in the truck for those tough to fit spots.

+330 MaNiaC Thank you very much. I really appreciate that.
Meat Trapper, you called the dog the trigger like five times.
Yep. Funny how you get distracted and have something in your head and can't get it out. Thanks for the reminder!
Good information. Man, that's a HUGE trap! :-) Thanks for sharing.
always a great vid ! very informative
Great job with the review.
Ya all I buy are belisle. Got to agree with the safety it sucks. The trap is made very well. Love the 3 bolts on the trigger and like the trigger.
If you only order 1 shipping will bring it to $45, in a place that is big enough these are a serious beast.
Where do you get them traps from ?
Southernsnares.com
Almost thought you were showing off a gambrel ...
I think that trap would come in handy when you have a smart trap shy beaver
+Tim Samuel McSwain Exactly. I'm looking forward to putting pans on a few of mine and seeing how that works.

good review that's the same way I feel about my MBs
Você é que faz as molas ?
Safety is easy fix, snare tree instead of the 2 330's would have made more sense.
tudo bem meu amigo, muito legal estas armadilhas, comprei 2 destas AK no Brasil mais vieram com as molas muito fracas, mais tá bom vai para minha pequena coleção, felicidades para ti e sua família.
Yep it's definitely a beast
Bélisle is the very best, and nothing else.
Muito bom. Já me escrevi 👏👏👏👏👏
