We’re about ready to install all the new wiring into our 1971 Super Beetle but before we do we want to test all of our electrical components. We start with our wiper switch and wiper motor. The switch is original and cleaned up. The wiper assembly is original as well but has been pulled apart, cleaned up and painted. Follow along as our tech goes over the various electrical terminals on the parts and shows how to bench test the parts before they are installed

Thank you for that video. I have been trying to figure out the wiring and how to check the switch on my '72 for about 5 months now. This is a great video
Your tutorial footage is always a bonus! Thanks for sharing!
Fantastic idea! Very clear and easy to follow :) Can't wait for the next ones.
Great explanation! Thanks for posting!
You guys are freaking AWESOME! Excellent videos! Keep it up helps me out alot!
Great video from 64vw of nj keep them coming
Great stuff. Very helpful!
👍
I’m guessing if I have continuity between all the terminals all the time my switch is no good and probably my motor is burnt out do to bad switch?
It's hard to say whether the switch shorted the motor or vice versa. Either way, if the motor is burnt and the switch is too, they both need to be replaced.
Thanks for all the videos! There a big help
This is awesome but I have the steering column wiper switch. Do you have a video showing how to test that one?
Not as of yet, no. The same steps apply, just spend a few moments with a continuity tester and you'll see what the input and output wires are.

@@Sam_Mebane thank you Sam. My other challenge is that I have the intermittent relay 111 955 531. Hopefully you’re able to make a video on testing that one day. There are a lot of people on the forums who are just as confused as me.
Any one know the name of the multimeter he’s using
It's just a cheap Harbor Freight unit, nothing fancy.
Do all wiper motors have park? I have 2 motors and trying this simple test cant get it to park. Every other operation works fine i just need to time it. Both are 2 speed motors.
Yes, all wiper motors have a park position (terminal 53a or 54). Early wiper motors that have been converted to 12 volt can often times over run the park position and keep running. In those cases it might be necessary to "manually" shut off the switch once the arms have have reached the bottom of the windshield.
@@Sam_Mebane thank you very much for the reply. The info is very helpful. So does that mean if my park isn't working I need a new wiper motor?
@@gosetto69 possibly. if speed 1 and 2 work but the park does not, I would replace the motor.
@@Sam_MebaneI must say happy holidays, I cant believe your replying to comments. You are an absolute 💎. I was thinking that i should replace it, only thing is I have a manx conversion. So what wiper motor do I get? There are so many different wire configurations for the new motors, and none of the new motors match any wiring diagram I can find colour wise.
@@gosetto69 I wouldn't stress about the colors, the most important thing is matching the motor mounting style as the motor mounts to the wiper arm assembly. Look through the classifieds at thesamba.com for wiper motors to see which style you have and go from there.
