    PertSnergleman's Review:
    -------------------------------------------
In one of the greatest seasons in the Open era, Jimmy Connors had won 93 out of 97 matches played in 1974, lifting 15 titles and three Major crowns on the grass court to dominate like only a few players before him.
In the last US Open played on its original surface at the Forest Hills, Jimmy took down the great Aussie Ken "Muscles" Rosewall 6-1 6-0 6-1 on September 9, in what has been the most one-sided Grand Slam final ever!
This was the first out of five US Open crowns for the crowd favourite Connors and he would become the only player in history who won one Grand Slam on three different surfaces.
Despite his age, "Muscles" was still among the best players in the world and he was seeded 5th at the Forest Hills, beating John Newcombe in the semis to set Connors clash. Another interesting fact proves how consistent "Muscles" was, as he played in the US Open quarter-final on the day when Jimmy was born 22 years earlier, also winning the title here in 1956 when his rival was just four years old! It was all about Connors during the entire match, losing just 42 points overall and facing three break points, saving them all to keep his serve intact.
On the other hand, "Muscles" never found his rhythm, getting broken eight times from 12 break points Jimmy created and dropping 35 out of 54 points behind his serve, hitting only five service winners in the entire match. Also, the veteran had only eight winners from the field, compared to 20 service winners from Connors and an additional 33 from the field, which was just too much for the Aussie to handle.
It just goes to show... muscles ain't everything.
    Enjoy! :)

The most one sided grand slams men's
final in the open era. Frankly the age gap between the two was the main reasons of Connors victory. BTW both are great champions.

Ellsworth Vines said that Borg and Connors did so well from the baseline because it had become fashionable to abandon the baseline game in favor of serve and volley, because Jack Kramer had become so successful with the S and V style. Vines said that Kramer had an unbelievably good second serve, powerful and accurate, and he was the only player who could get away with that style alone if he went up against a great baseliner. Connors and Borg had mastered the baseline game and exposed the generations of Serve and volleyers who didn't know how to play well from the back court. Vines said that to be one's best, he should use ALL the tactics, and mix them up.

Everyone was in awe of Rosewall's BH, but Connors's BH was so much better!

This is not prime Rosewall, though. Not even close. He looked horrible here.
