  • We volunteered at the local community centre to help out with winter prep and overgrown parts, we certainly found plenty to do! Had a real sense of pride being to help out, I know it's only a small gesture tidying up the centre but felt so good!

      Great job as always Ben! That parking lot was neverending! Glad you chose to pick up the leaves. I always think that if you just blow them into the bushes, a good gust of wind and you're back to where you started. Loved Dad's rendition of We Will Rock You. I bet he even had Freddie Mercury chuckling at that one 😄

    Hi Ben, as a horticulturist, it would be best to just blow off leaves to leave as a natural mulch which in time will degrade down to a natural earth form. However, as your margins are right next to a car park, they run the risk of blowing all over the tarmac in high winds, causing blockages to drainage or slip hazzards to pedestrians so personally I would collect them and deposite them to a green waste plant. You could however collect and bag them and leave them over time to produce leaf mold which over time resembles soil crumbs. This can be sprinkled over growing areas, used as a potting mix or added as a nutritional layer for growing seedlings. No doubt you will make the right decision as always, cheers and thanks, J

      Great idea, yet, to expand on that idea, with the amount he could collect, I would suggest he builds some compost bins at his Uncles place for fresh foliage and another for leaves for leaf mould. He could then sell them in bags and make a sideline in that!!! 😀

    Sometimes, it's better to put the leaves in the undergrowth to rot down and feed the plants. As an added bonus, it creates warmth under there for hedgehogs and other small ctitters. The worms also come up under the leaf mould and other yummy insects, giving the non migratory birds an easier time feeding in the winter. Great job, though, your community is very lucky to have you, and Dad of course. Merry Christmas guys, may next year be even more successful than this one.

    • @minigolfkid
      @minigolfkid 5 месяцев назад

      I find that it depends on the year. We were wet and soggy for most of this year so I’ve packaged up most of what was out in my yard. I have a couple of trees that needed breathing room at the roots, so they’ve been cleared around their bottoms for that reason. I’m mostly worried about mould in the next spring than anything else. plenty of space for insects and any potential rodentia. just not right next to the house thanks.

    Go Arthur!! He’s going to be another superstar!!
    Fantastic job Ben - yes I’d collect up the leaves when there are that many. If you just blow them into the bushes half of them will end up back out in the car park as soon as there’s a windy day. Those bushes were very overgrown but you’ve done a lovely job. You are getting so proficient at gardening now. It’s very impressive how far you’ve come in a short time given you knew absolutely nothing about gardening when you started. Very proud of you Ben. Big shout out to your amazing dad too. Great work ⭐️⭐️

    Entomologist here, weighing in on the leaves discussion! Decaying leaves provide habitat for a number of insects that are important for breaking down plant matter and improving soil quality. It's also habitat for a number of other species such as litter moths which are nighttime pollinators. It's exactly as you said however, leaves are also slippery and unsightly for many clients. My advice is, where possible, keep the leaves if you can (under shrubs or trees as free fertilizer/mulch) and remove them from concrete surfaces or walkways. :)

  • @leahlemieux6410
    @leahlemieux6410 6 месяцев назад +58

    Blowing at least some of the leaves back into the bushes helps the trees by helping return nutrients to the soil and creating mulch to retain moisture ( which doesn’t seem to be a problem in your area). Leaf litter is also used by beneficial insects like bees to hibernate in. You and your dad are hilarious- I look forward to seeing what you come up with every week! Great job on the community center- it looks so nice! Looking forward to seeing what you’ve accomplished at Norms place!

      Absolutely. Put as much of the leaves back under the bushes if possible. Over time they make good compost - just like in a wood... It is imortant for every wildlife like the insects, birds, etc.

    Hi Ben.
    >A leaf vacuum could help a lot with gathering the leaves. Perhaps you could do some research on leaf vacuums...
    >Because winter in coming, you could put enough leaf material over the bush's beds to keep them warm. Collect and recycle the excess material...🙏

    Those Kress tools are amazing. I’d not heard of the brand until you started working with them. The leaf blower certainly made light work of all those wet leaves!

    We love watching your videos! Here in the US, we'd never seen leaf grabbers before. My husband said they'd help his back , so i searched around and found some, along with the bags you use. He was thrilled with his Christmas gift! Thanks for the inspiration, Ben.

    You and your dad including your family are awesome. Love watching your videos. You guys make me laugh with all the antics your dad gets up to. Your son seems to be picking up on the comedy in life. What is life without having fun and making tedious jobs fun to do. You and your dad change peoples lives in so many ways. Your example proves that a community spirit helps lift peoples lives. Out of all the videos I watch from people like yourself offering free clean ups you guys shine the most. I adore the family love and joy of having fun together. Norman has totally come out of his shell. I love you guys so much

    Oh my goodness another fascinating transformation. I’m seriously impressed with the Kress equipment. Every unit is a step above the others. Love the blower. Even wet leaves stuck to the pavement are no match for it. Funny; shooting the towel from the blower. I laughed out loud.
    Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas. May God bless you all. ❤

    New Sub from America. Wow, you guys really live up to your name of FLAWLESS CLEANING! I'm sure YT recommended your channel as I watch US mowing overgrown properties channels. I get frustrated with most of them as they mow and cut EVERYTHING down to the ground whether it's a viable landscape shrub or not, and then they leave a foot depth of grass/weed clippings on the lawn. I hate half-assed work like that! I was taught that if you're going to do a job, do it right. I've watched a few of your videos and can't find a single fault! You guys go above and beyond! Love your humor, too! Your Dad is a riot and you play a great straight man. 👍💚👍 Love to your adorable sons! 💙💙Your 2 yr old looks like my grandson of the same age and my 5 yr old grandson is my gardening buddy. We both love being outside.

    Regarding the leaves, if you know any allotment holders or keen gardeners they’d likely have the leaves to make leaf mould. Blowing back under bushes etc isn’t a bad thing either, will rot down eventually and feed the ground. Provides a mulch cover against weeds etc.
    If I have a customer who doesn’t pay for waste removal I run my mulching mower over the leaves and blow into the borders. Or if I have room I remove them and store on my own allotment.
