2017 Charger Hellcat Legmaker (LMI) Intake Install

- I finally hit the sweet spot mileage wise where I felt I'd want to finally install this intake :) just a few words about it that I do mention in the video .. one, I chose this over the Bwoody because of the carbon fiber tube and also for the rain shield .. I felt the appearance of this intake was going to fit the theme of my build better and that's really the only reason .. horsepower wise I'm sure they're almost dead on .. the install of this intake is a breeze ONCE you muscle out the air inlet tube that goes from the grille to the air box .. that is quite literally the "hardest" part of the install .. I don't have many sound clips driving with this because they're all over at the click of a button lol eventually I'll be doing an exhaust video of the mid muffler delete and you'll absolutely get some LMI whine and yelling in there now too lol overall I'm happy with the sound, fitment, quality and I DO feel like there was a performance increase so that's also a big plus .. if you have any questions on the install or my opinion you can comment below or message me on my Instagram (@honestlyOCD) and I'll respond usually quite quickly .. thanks for watching !!

Glad yours ended up fitting good. I'm having a fitment issue with mine. Can't get the damn thing turned right so I can fit the rain shield on. Right now, I just have the bolt on there loose to hold it on, but it still hits the filter.
Coffin Nails I've heard of that but turning it so the sensor is more facing the engine should make it clear .. mine took some moving around but it's perfectly fine !!

Carlos Rodriguez Carlos Rodriguez don't like the heatshield they have and I've heard issues of heat soak from the tube design .. plus the CF tube is good for my theme lol both Intakes also give nearly identical results but either is whatever I think lol if got plenty of whine now I think more may be overkill :p
If the bwoody is any louder than the legmaker, I don't think i could drive it lol

Just discovered a easier way to get the blasted air intake out of the front fascia that feeds the stock box for anyone attempting this theirselves in the future..
Once you get it to the pulling step ,heat gun the middle of it untill it is good and hot ,then start pulling. The heat will cause it to conform to the opening when your trying to haul it through that gap. Night and day difference in trying to gorilla that thing out with no heat applied.

Alot of people talk about heat soaking and how the stock is better because it pulls air from the front and bottom not from the engine bay.
In my opinion I'd say that only really matters in city driving but once the car is moving air is flowing there is plenty of heat extractors and the most important thing is the air is cooled by the heat exchanger built into the super charger

wow! that's over a 1000 crank hp, with just some minor mods man I tell dodge really broke mold as far as oem performance even if you pull 800 whp that's insane bro in a 4 door sedan with a and comfortable seats
man arent you worried this mod can void your warranty? a lot of other youtubers had an issue with the supercharger bearings and they say the warranty got voided with a filter mod
Mo Moo lol nope life is too short to worry about stupid shit bud lol plus once HHP gets this car and it's sitting at like 800-900whp the warranty is toasted regardless .. my dealer is very chill though so I'm not worried much at all

Looks like a hot air intake. The stock one looks like a much better design.
Funny thing is my car didn’t run much hotter, the car sounded much better and like all mods it’s personal preference :) a preference the vast majority of hellcat owners agree on 🤷🏻♂️
@@HonestlyOCD That is all that matters as long as you are happy but I find cool air aids performance and minimizes heat soak in traffic. Hemi's run hot....that is why the auto motive engineers designed it to draw cool air. But, if you know more than them...The only real proof would be a before and after test. I am happy with the stock intake myself.

I would be curious, how this sounds with the supercharger vs. a Magum Force cold air intake? (Magnum Force is the sound of 10 babies wailing, not good!)
That intake doesn't seem like its very well designed, they need to make a full box, with this you're sucking in hot air from the engine compartment as there is no barrier in between the intake and engine compartment.
my intake temps are 10-20 degrees below what the stock box was giving me and I'm running like only 5-10 degrees above ambient temperature at any given time so far so idk yet but it's worth a try to be honest lol I'll do more testing as I own it to see if it gives any negative temps or side effects
The Great White North watch bigbluehellcats dyno runs with stock intake compared to 2 different aftermarket ones and he was pulling 20 more hp, I put a bwoody on my Hellcat and my intake temps are also cooler then stock, plus the whine is 10 times louder

I don't really wanna go past that but I think it's very attainable .. once we get a house and I have the space I'm either picking up a Viper or a new Z06 so I can really get in some good four digit HP numbers and even more fun but we'll take it little by little for now haha

For the high cost of the intake, and the frustration of the install, and no real horsepower gain and all somebody can say is it sounds better it's not even worth it !
Cababy 12 that's a very subjective topic lol I don't penny pinch and other than that tube the install wasn't a big deal lol the noise, however, made the whole thing completely and utterly worth it (to me and many many others at least) lol

Great video now i need some help i have a 17 hellcat charger and Im having a big problem choosing and intake for it at first i wanted LMI or Bwoody but now I'm going more towards JLT hearing a lot of good reviews about and it looks like a demon intake but i want that whine and i know lmi is the way to go for that but i heard a lot of bad because its open to the elements any advise help will be much appreciated

Mike Jones that is a good question .. honestly I'm still on the fence lol I feel like the other kit had more of the color I was looking for compared to this one but I'd say both produce pretty close to the same output .. I'm fairly certain I can just find a bulb to put in to mess with that color but, for me, it's perfectly fine and I'll likely leave it alone if that says anything to ya :X lol

I know this has nothing to do with the video. But what kind of camera(s) do you use to film videos like this or take pictures of your vehicle?
I use a Canon G7X for mod of my installs and I use my Canon 80D with various lenses for actual pictures of the car .. the G7X is good for installs because it's small and easy to put into tight places like the engine bay and interior .. pair it with the tiny manfrotto tripod and it's a great setup

so you think that plastic tube from the front fascia to the filter is not needed?
Highway Cruiser when I did the hellcat inlet mod on my scat I had no tube and it was fine plus the instructions say to remove but I'm sure you could leave it in there for easier install

HonestlyOCD I bought a system for my 2016 Challenger Cat my car had 2K on it when I did the install.I was checking the oil and noticed the filter had changed color from blue to grey it needed to be removed,cleaned and re oiled my mileage was now at 6K I thought it was supposed to go for 20...25k before cleaning.I didn't see much advantage to it so I decided to put the stock box back on.When I installed it I did what you did and didn't bother with the channel to the front ,when I noticed the flat panel over where the pipe runs to the front I put my thumb thru the hole there and pulled it popped right out and I had clear access to the air channel so I made sure it had a good tight connection when I put the stock intake back in.The first time I drove it after putting the stock intake back in there was a very definite increase in the power and I mean a lot.I think that channel is real important because it delivers cold outside air and directs it right into the filter kind of like a pressure washer it shoots a stream of high speed cold air ,without it the filter just sucks in the warm air around it.Try pulling the flat panel and hooking up the channel I am sure you will notice a big difference in the power.
With that intake opening in front does the filter get wet?
mclovin'78 it should but the intake has a pre filter which stops water from even touching the intake and eliminates the risk of hydrolocking

devan ward pretty sure that intake is only for the Scat/SRT but either way I wouldn't do that one again strictly because of the cutting lol I also feel better with the filter where it is on this one so it's a better setup for me

Just put a nice k&n filter instead of the blue lmi one
researching my options now :) going to see what I can come up with since the filter needs to be the exact same size to have the same fit on the carbon fiber tube

Hemi J no but LMI makes 392 specific intakes that will be just as great

Wrong, dyno results show increase in HP around 15-20 in the entire RPM range.
2010drive for 10 minutes and that it.
2010drive without a tune it does nothing, the ECU and throttle body ultimately limit the air fuel ratio. 15-20 HP on a 707hp is not noticeable. The real reason I want to get it for mine is induction noise but considering how exposed it is ill pass all CAI in general
I will bet if you would have taken the right side black cover that is placed over that tube, you would have been able to remove that snorkel without looking like a dumb fuck.
Ok so warranty aside, screw that I say, money aside too, screw that I say too. But what I'm wanting to really know is why on earth did you remove the factory (true CAI) for an LMI? Lets be honest for a second here, the factory intake is not suffocating that mean ass engine.....and it's drawing the air from the coldest areas it could. Sorry man, I love your videos and your car....it's insane....but I feel like what you just did was...well....a waste. Of course it's not my car to mod and if you're happy with it that's all that counts.
JetTech1966 factory is ugly as fuck and doesn't give me the sound I wanted from the supercharger :) I'm doing a whole carbon fiber theme and this just appealed more to me plus tuning down the line when I shoot for 900whp is going to be better for me I feel

Intake temps are the same after the swap and most of us know that the upgrade is for the sound. I'm not sure how much I would consider the stock box a "true cai." the air is fed through a tiny tube in the grille that is actually located right behind the big ugly srt badge for some reason.

ShogMan really ?? the pre filter makes a difference ?? I didn't even know lol
Yes, anything that obstructs flow is a reduction in pumping prowess. just look at the total area of the filter vs. a pre-filter screen. do want you want, but unless you're going to race in the desert, why a pre-filter? we even remove all oil from filters to increase flow and reduce contamination of the mass air flow sensor.
