- Sgt. Grey (Richard T. Jones) tells rookie Officer John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) that he should be careful with his new Training Officer, Detective Nyla Harper (Mekia Cox). She's spent most of the last several years undercover, and her transition to patrol is going to be tough. Watch 'The Rookie' SUNDAY 10|9c on ABC.
Love how Grey has begun respecting Nolan, great story progress
I think it happened when Nolan went back into a gassed filled house and pulled him out, saving his life..
whatever20030 we finally get to see a relationship thats not all negative between them! Makes me happy!
+whatever20030 Thank You, for saying it first, except my version starts off “It is about time . . . . .”.
+Andrew Sep And Thank You, for explaining something to clue me in. I do not get to watch it.
I think he has to respect him now. Nolan's earned his place.
I like this scene. Shows how far Grey and Nolan's relationship has come since the pilot. Grey first believed Nolan was a liability and now not only has his view changed it's completely flipped to him believing Nolan's the only rookie here who can maybe handle Harper specifically because he's a forty five year old and not a twenty five year olf
The sign of a good leader is knowing how to apply your teams strengths.
For those who don't know and just happened on this clip, Harper's undercover work cost her her marriage with her ex taking their daughter, she Harper took the TO assignment to reclaim some stability in her life and try and get her daughter back
Why‘d she ask the sergeant to review her body cam?
@@five-peace perp she was chasing jumped off the roof, from Nolan's position on the ground he wasn't sure if he jumped or she pushed him, and her apparent attitude earlier in the episode didn't help matters. Harper had the Sergeant review the footage to both head off any IAB questions before they came to ask and to head off Nolan whom she knew was going to go to Grey.
@@FerretJohn thanks!
It’s because Nolan saved his life
Also, the 5% pay bump she bragged about allowed her to get caught back up on child support, which was useful in her custody case.
He doesn't say it here but I suspect Grey chose Nolan's TO with just as much of an eye towards what he could do for HER. Grey knows by now that while Nolan might be a rookie cop, he's lived a heck of a lot of life. Nolan knows life isn't easy, has gone through some rough patches, and still manages to thrive. I think he hoped Nolan, with his life experience and endless optimism, would be able to crack Harper's shell and maybe help her straighten out some of the obvious problems she had in her personal life. Worked too.
I suspect that Grey gave Nolan the reprimand with the Armstrong situation specifically to teach Harper a lesson, because it really was her responsibility, and he very well could have pinned all the consequences on her as the TO. But because she didn't care about her own career advancement, had distinctions and was already a detective, it was more of an impact on her that she pretty much ruined Nolan's career. Although I personally think that Grey was betting on Nolan exceeding his expectations there as well.
I also like to think that Harper's hardships in life would help Nolan teach him, well, harsh parts in police work. Not to say to break his optisum but give him a realistic and wary view on ppl in his career
It was poor writing, the initial dislike of Grey towards Nolan. Grey's reason made no sense: He thought more "midlife crisis" guys would show up. But that was never gonna happen since the rookies first have to go through the academy. If Grey were an instructor at the academy, then his initial attitude would have made sense. But here, you would have expected him to welcome a rookie with tons of life experience.

@@ricksimon9867 The same mindset exists in the military...and for good reason. A 17-23 year old isn't fully developed mentally, add in a lack of life experience, and you have a recipe for instructors to instill a very specific set of skills quickly and effectively. Yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks, its just a hell of a lot harder if said dog has been shitting in a specific corner of a room for most of its life.
"Why did you make her my TO?"
"Literally no one else is tough enough to deal with her. Some newbie kid would just fold like a bad hand of Poker. You at least have enough guts, and enough tact, to actually cope with the situation."
Nolan is my spirit animal when it comes to training officers like my friends and family. Grey is like my parents.
I think Richard T. Jones, in conjunction with the writers, absolutely nails the Sgt. Grey character. I sure hope they never kill off that character.
Or promote him to a different precinct!!
I love this show. Nathan Fillion suits this role. Guiding Light, Castle & The Rookie. His naive attitude is great.
He also plays Mal to perfection on Firefly!
@@eMDTee And let's not forget our favorite ODST turned Spartan - SGT. Buck!!
Y'all forgot One Life to Live
My personal favorite is Captain hammer. Just gonna leave this here for the uninitiated. ruclips.net/video/YAHnXnU7RMI/видео.html
Two Guys and A Girl, they dumped the pizza place in the second season.
I love so much Nathan and adore The Rookie!😊💪
Yeah I like how it has become more of a mentoring situation.
I wish we got this in the UK I've been dying to watch it since I saw the first Advert.
U can watch it on myflixer
It's on sky witness in UK
Get a VPN. it's how I can watch shows in the UK here in America.
Have you tried Hulu?
@@johncontreras2327 We don't have Hulu in the UK
so this is the alternative universe where nathan drake became a cop instead of treasure hunting
What are you talking about
@@whiterose8601 Nathan Fillion was the inspiration for Nathan Drake from Uncharted. He also played Nathan Drake in a short fan film
Wasn't Nolan once an odst trooper pretty sure he's sgt.buck or gunny
@@oldschool657he wasn't the inspiration. He was just a possible fan cast for Nathan
Is it just me or is Nathan getting more fit? Last time I saw him on Castle he was a little pudgy.
He is definitely skinnier, but to the point where I’m wondering if he’s ill.
Well, in a cop show where he'd have to be more physical and run around a lot, I don't think there was much choice.
He lost a ton of weight for Suicide Squad 2.
Who is nathan
DJNation Gaming Nolan
One of the things I love most about this show. The character development is very detailed.
i cant stop seeing him as buck
Me too. Spartan Buck of Fireteam Osiris
Formerly ODST of Alpha Nine
I like the new TO , not like her because she good ,like her because she put more depth to the show story
Everyone have story to tell this is not a Nolan show ,we must appreciate every character even though we don't like them
This is not kindergarten story
Bald guy plays his role very well I'm impressed
It's the bald black guys, they kill the police rolls. Terry crews and holt from b99 are good examples
Bald guy 😂😂
@@denver3739 Because they write it that way. It's the safe lib route.
Yes he is a very good actor who can perform with nuance.
@@denver3739rip captain holt 😭
Rick Castle wanted to be a cop so badly. Happy that he's finally living his dream.
And he's working under the command of the former Governor of Hawaii.
This and when López brings the baby home are the sweetest moments
Did Fillion lose some weight? I caught some early episodes of the show, and he looked quite different at the time.
Probably a character thing. He got fitter after joining the police force.
OMG isnt detective harper the same doctor on chicago med
yep
It is nice how Grey now respects Nolan. It seems like Grey is suspicious of Harper.
I fully agree with Nolan's decision of not straight away trusting what she said with him jumping. It is common sense to think that people want to avoid hurting themselves and not every cop is trustworthy as we saw with Stanton and Smitty.
And several years later she's arguably the best character on a pretty good show.
When Nolan shot a suspect they made a whole episode out of it with that IA circus. This is what shoulda happened instead. See the bodycam. Case closed.
When an incident leads to death. Internal Affairs usually investigates everything from how the situation first initiated to the officers standards.
@@toxicity6911 Especially considering that he is still on probation. If I am not mistaken LAPD has a 12 month probation period so regardless of the fact that he did seem to do everything correctly there will be closer scrutiny due to him being a rookie. I love this show and have always been a fan of Nathan. He makes this show work.
Few things played out differently.
Nolan's suspect died while Harpers suspect only offered a broken leg and other injuries
Nolan's situation involved an officer and a suspect who were both armed while Harpers incident did not.
Nolan was still on probation at the time
Wow, Hollywood can't pass up a chance to confuse people about the difference between an AR
15 and an M16
As if they can tell the difference? If I handed an AR, an M-16, and an M-4 to a hollywood type, what the odds they could hand me the correct one I would ask for afterwards WITHOUT reading the information off of the receiver.
@@danielhaire6677 I doubt they would know to look for it. Or where.
@@TherealSBlair Very true.
R Hunzeker m16 and m4 are just military designations for different types of ar-15s
@@johanstevens5824 No. They are derived off of the AR-15 platform but they are not the same weapon. For instance, the additional components in the firing mechanism that allows for full auto or burst fire (depending on variant) are not physically capable of fitting in an AR-15.
1:43. 😂😂😂😂
At least you stand a chance. 🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
every time i try to remember Nathan's, i keep coming up with the name Nolan
Best show ever
see age does have its perks
After all that undercover intensity, she got back in a uniform to relax, or she's tracking someone.
nope, after this they got a answer and explain because she turn back in blue just for her daughter
WOW👍
Let's be honest, in an unrealistic show, nolan is the most realistic cop.
See, Harper should have been made to take retraining classes to rid herself of such behaviors BEFORE being allowed to be a T.O.
THAT way she might not have put Nolan's life in danger and all that.
She needed to understand BEFORE she put lives in danger that she wasn't a UC anymore.
Grey is the only one probably who saw how much trouble Harper was going to be at first.
Don't get me wrong, Harper is great, just not the best introduction.
I forget this is where harper started compared to where she is now
Who else sees Tiana from Once Upon a Time.
I was wondering what you meant, so I looked at it from wikipedia. I did realize it until you mentioned that.
I know whole time be a good person
I feel sorry about cops they have to do very hard things
Wait what happend to the original TO of Nolan?
The one who plays Talia Bishop? she states that she experienced sexual harassment from a guest star 'not sure anyone particular' and racism from the crew and the hair team in the shooting site.

maria stella in real life?
@@Yungmexikc most definitely, see the article that I linked above (:
@Leo Peridot I mean if the production wants her to stay, I dont think that she would tho.. Knowing that she would be uncomfortable in the whole enviroment.
But yes, too bad.. She was a strong character that everyone seeks for a good TO example.
@@mariastella5116@mariastella5116 I Actually think that Bradford long-term was the best TO. We got to see as he adapted his entire approach based on the needs of his Rookie. Toughening up Chen mentally while drilling skills into her versus his second Rookie who being a veteran, he didn't need to teach skills or toughen, but rather teach to be more open to the world and not on guard.
Does anyone recognize her as Sabine from once upon a time???
Im working on Season 1... Can anyone tell me if Grey ever knocks his bullshit off? Mainly just harassing the shit out of Nolan?
Nolan starts gaining Grey's respect later on in season 1.
Ik grey got on my nerves too
@Spirit Unbound damn son youre in your feelings 😂
@Spirit Unbound yeah I'm no where in my feelings. The way you responded is textbook example of being butthurt 🤣
Yes, Gray starts respecting Nolan more, hell in season 4 Gray is comfortable asking Nolan about what to get his wife for mother's day.
I've just watched the first episodes but now the series was removed from the streaming platform. What happened to Nolan's first TO?
She moved over to the ATF after she realized she had no future in the LAPD. She did not disclose her relationship with her foster brother (a convicted felon) when she first applied, destroying her chances at moving up the ranks.
It's on Hulu now if you didn't know that already
They should forget about the The rookie FBI and just do one for Harper.
She's a better fit with Nolan though I miss Bishop
What's the full form of TO
that wouldnt be a civil lawsuit..
I'm sorry, But I'm really trying to like Harper but she needs to go.
Still feel that way? Without Harper Nolan would have been screwed after the events with season 2
Harper has been extremely annoying so far.
Nolan not a boot any more he past probation no more long sleeves shirt and neck tie rocking the short sleeve shirt now
What ep/season
Que want Nolan this policia when you going Police officers when you going when you going when you going when this going when you going when you going when could
he is slim now..
What happen to the first T O?
In the story: she acepted a job in another department (cant remeber which) because she felt after the thing with her foster brother she couldn't go up from there.
In real life: unfortunately she made harrasment complaints about one of the characters' actor (the detective she saves his life in a previous episode), in the end she was not happy with the final decision behind the scenes so she left. A shame really, obviously the other actor was banned too, terrible that this things happen.
Episode?
What's the meaning of T.O.? Sorry i'm not related to the term
Training Officer
Always wanted to know what happened to her TO did you get pregnant and I had to write her out!? Inquiring minds would like to know!!!!
Are you talking about Talia? The actress left the show because she filed harassment and discrimination claims, and the showrunners didn't have her back. Or something like that.
Yeah what ever happened to her!!?
@@mikaelcrews7232 she left for greener pasture after the allegations...
She left the show after repeated sexual harassment from a "regular guest star", and after she filed her complaints, she was then forced to take part in multiple scenes with this "guest star" near the conclusion of the first season.
I suspect the actor who played Detective Wolfe, but I have no evidence of this, and the actress refuses to name names publicly. But Detective Wolfe was replaced with Detective Armstrong in the second season... so take from that what you will.
ishiioutcasts I agree but anyways detective Armstrong is so much better and has laughs with everyone and is like Nolan’s best mate now!
I don’t like these scene. You shouldn’t just blindly trust whatever your colleagues tell you. Nolan did the right thing, which at least the sgt recognizes. But maybe he should’ve said something to Harper about how it was the right thing to do instead of letting her haze and berate Nolan for days after that.
So why would being a paranoid undercover who lies have anything to do with pushing a guy from somewhere high? Did she lie and tell him just jump you'll be fine?
Who is the Sgt? Wss he on "ally mcbeal?"
OMG
Amadel from Lucifer 🤫🤔🧐
Man Nathan is looking old.
